At work a forklift driver -- whose walking-around weight is 160 lb -- told me that he would fight Mayweather, not box and move. Really kick his ass.
Aggressiveness and enthusiasm in his voice and body, he said,
"I would brawl him out. Mayweather never had someone fight him. I mean, really fight him."
He kept describing how he would beat Mayweather.
"Mayweather has never fought a young strong black guy. I have silverback gorilla in me."
I was amused.
"Mayweather would knock you out," I said.
"At the top level of boxing, Mayweather has fought brawlers, inside brawlers, bullies, and punchers. No disrespect but Money Mayweather would first round KO you. You can't just box the number one pound-for-pound boxer without ring experience. It's a huge mismatch."
He stood quiet.
"I'm not trying to be a dick but even a crackhead Mayweather would knock you out."
Why do people think they can just get in there and bully Mayweather?!
This leads me to the question. What style(s) befuddles Mayweather the most?
Is my co-worker right? Is a young, strong, aggressive black fighter the answer to the Mayvinci code?
In terms of style I think the answer is clearly 'brawler' or 'stalker' types. Castillo, DLHoya, Cotto and Maidana all gave Floyd problems using an active and intelligent lead hand and by trapping him on the ropes while throwing in combinations to body and head.
That doesn't mean any old Ricky Hatton will automatically win because they are brawler (obviously) but I think any style which gives Floyd time and space to think will be out thought.
A prime Oscar with that sledge hammer jab, and combination punching would have beaten Floyd.
Oscar late in his career stopped throwing the jab the wat he used to. Prime Oscar with Alcazar that was a boxer puncher with one of the stiffest jabs outsde of Quartey and the ability to be on his toes and box and throw combinations and adapt and adjust during a fight would have given Floyd hell!!!!
Floyd has never been interested in fightin a guy who can move and box with power.Oscar had the type of stiff jab that would have constantly been in Floyds face making him constantly reset. A stiff jab is the one thing that effectively offset speed.
Hatton gave Floyd some issues for a good part of the fight. He was gassed and outclassed in the last 3-4 rounds.
That was kinda my point tbf. He had the right style, but he wasnt fit enough, smart enough or talented enough to beat Mayweather.
Valero would't gas just ask Oscar about Valero and to the guy who mentions Demarco Valero still beat him down and was on coke while doing it
Valero TKO 2 vs Klitschko. He never lost. There is no blueprint
I think Maidana's strategy was pretty good in the first fight. He was just too slow and of course he gassed.
The only way I see Mayweather losing is if he gets caught early by someone he took lightly. Give him time and he'll figure a way to win.

As much as i like watching Floyd fight, Lara will have the longer reach and is very elusive. I don't see Floyd pressuring him. Lara will not fight the way you think he will in this fight.
A fighter that excels with forward momentum and attacks intelligently plus diversely will always find some success against Mayweather.
Although having a complete tool set of knowledge fighting by inches, forward, and backwards will give you a higher success rate. When Mayweather pressures and flashes combinations, these past fighters freeze a bit because they expect Mayweather on a backtracking counter defense style.
Valero wouldve been a tough one for floyd... southpaw stance, awkward, determined(unlike judah) and vicious puncher....hell, he wouldve been a tough one for anyone..
ummm his best win was Demarco at 135....
Intelligent pressure fighters.
I used to think a great jab was essential, but Maidana threw some doubt on that assumption. The key is exerting some control over his movement and denying him the freedom of the ring. If you can close off the escape routes you can get something done, see Castillo, Cotto, and Maidana.

the best fighter valero ever fought was antonio demarco. did you watch that fight?
Ofcourse, most of his fight too...did not say he had a good resume....
