Undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. welcomes Miguel Cotto and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez to fight on the same date as his fights in May and September 2015. The 37-year-old professional boxer thinks that his pay-per-view figures are way better than those two of the fighters. He strongly believes that between him and those two guys, boxing fans prefer to watch him if they are competing on a different pay-per-view networks.
In an interview with Boxing Scene, Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya revealed that Cotto has to face Canelo if he wants to get a big-money fight in 2015. De La Hoya highlighted that boxing fans are more interested to see a Canelo vs. Cotto fight because Mayweather vs. Pacquiao bout is not close to happening.
Canelo has reportedly given Golden Boy Promotions his marching orders that he needs to be scheduled a fight on Cinco de Mayo on May 2, 2015. He specifically expressed his desire to take the Mexican date for his fight and he does not care if Mayweather fights on the same date on Showtime pay-per-view. Canelo vs. Cotto fight will be on HBO pay-per-view if the negotiations turn out well, according to Boxing 247.
Despite Canelo's persistence to fight on Mexican holiday, Mayweather does not appear to be backing down from Canelo's challenge. "If they feel like they can compete, well then let's see," Mayweather said to Fighthype.com. "When you're talking boxing, you're talking Mayweather, man. We need to take Canelo's last fight and look at his pay-per-view numbers and take Cotto's last fight and look at his pay-per-view numbers, put 'em together and see who done better numbers. And see what they charge for the fight also."
Canelo and Cotto's PPV fights were not very good in the past. Last June, when Cotto fought Sergio Martinez, the fight brought in just approximately 300, 000 PPV buys, according to Boxing News 24. Canelo's last two fights brought in only 300,000 PPV buys each.

Another example about Arum though. :lol1:
CHAVEZ JR. DENIES ARUM'S CLAIM THAT HE'S BEEN OFFERED A FIGHT WITH CARL FROCH: "THESE ARE LIES, LIES, ALL LIES!"

First time im seeing this
if nobody is fighting at mgm on that date why go to NY? when we all know that mgm is the mecca of boxing and thats where the money is... and we are not just talking about cotto's money, but everybody else involved in that fight...
that fight deserves to be at the mecca of boxing on the biggest boxing date period..
Definitely, if nobody is fighting at the MGM then I'm sure it will be fine with Cotto, you just gotta pay him or make a concession here and there.
I'm just remembering back before Margarito I...when Cotto was determined that the fight happen in 8oz gloves and wanted it to be in NY where that is the standard at WW. Arum wanted Vegas so he had to go out of his way to lobby the NSAC to change their rule on glove size at WW for that fight. I expect he will be making some sort demand, he plays his card right most of the time

he is a promoter and they all lie when is convenient, i dont see a reason for arum to lie about this one, but you never know...
arum lies every now and then, but the old man is after the money and he doesnt care about cotto being at disadvantage, but you are right is a bit too early..

Arum is not the concern. The concern is Cotto himself. And Canelo too, as they both have huge egos. Keep in mind, Cotto has already turned down a Canelo fight in the past. He has also turned down a lucrative Pacquaio match straight up.
So like I said, I will wait and see how things unfold. I would love for the fight to happen. But I know better than to assume it's going to be easy to make.
Yeah, the same Arum that said yesterday I was lying, today I'm telling the truth. The same Arum that said they have to build an outdoor stadium first in order to make a certain mega fight.
I think I'll wait and see how everything unfolds. It's a bit too early.

he must have a perfect record just like you...
anyways, duBoef is negotiating on cottos side, so it will be toprank-GB copromotion and arum has expressed that he wants this on 5 de mayo at vegas.. go figure..

yep, i bet you know better than that fat guy, and we are all in for a rude awakening ...
Yeah, the fat guy who has never been wrong before, right? :lol1:
according to arum negotiations have already started...
Now speaking of Tom and his guy, they're pushing for a Cotto fight, but it seems maybe Cotto and Canelo might happen in May. Can you comment on that?
"Yeah, that's what we're trying to do. Have Cotto and Canelo fight, and Gennady is right there, probably could fight the winner."
How far along are negotiations for Cotto and Canelo?
"I think they're ongoing. I know Todd (duBoef) is here in town, he's talking to Oscar. I think Cotto's in town. So, you know, it's taking place."
Do you know around when it might get announced?
"Well, let's see how soon it gets made."oh wow. Imagine....
GGG supposedly just made 900K so him being on the this undercard is feasable.....WOW!
Because of the difference in fight advantage. Vegas is the advantage for Canelo. While New York is the advantage for Cotto. Canelo does not have more leverage over Cotto. Rafael and others think this fight will be easy to negotiate, but it will not be. And Team Cotto has already sent out a warning shot about how the terms will be dictated. That says more than anything Rafael has said.

Umm Yeah Pretty much lol!
U never know though the threat to his ego/reputation as "The Money Man" and biggest PPV guy in boxing might inspire him to take one of them.... Doubt it doe!
wishful thinking, i keep some hope myself ..
Floyd going head to head with either guy in PPV numbers would top them he's the biggest star in the sport but against them facing each other!? Unless its Pacman or GGG it aint happening!
I don't know that casual, mainstream US fans would buy canelo/cotto over a floyd fight.
