Seriously this non sense gotta stop, i see people praising Keith Thurman all the time because he stays calling people out.. Thurman knows damn well its not in his power or in the people he is calling out to make the fights happen.
Another example is the infamous Pacquiao/Mayweather fiasco. Floyd actually is one of the few and maybe the only fighter that has a strong say in who he fights. Pacquiao on the other hand, does as Bob Arum say. It don't matter for sht if Manny says he wants to fight Floyd, we all know he does and Floyd wants to fight Manny too its just that Bob Arum doesnt want to make that matchup plain and simple, Alex Ariza already explained this story a few years back if im not mistaken. Go read that.
Anyways the pont is, you guys gotta realize that fighters calling people out dont mean sht but someone trying to get publicity.
Hasn't Floyd said he would never work with Arum and that he'll only fight Pacquiao if he leaves bob arum and signs with tmt? So it goes both ways man.
But yes, most guys don't get much of say while others do. And there have been many examples of fighters turning down fights that their own promoter is willing to make.
floyd is his own boss (according to him) ergo he is the matchmaker (?)
Floyd ain't his own boss
He never was and never will be
If you can't read you don't run sh*t
For how long are Paquiao fans are going to run with the "He can't read" joke? Oh wait, for as long as the Mayweather fans joke about Manny's KO! Both sides of "fans" are pathetic!!!!
A few (- a very few) fighters have a real degree of control who they fight. Most fighters either don't have a choice or actually do simply prefer merely to focus on preparation and fighting and would rather leave opponent selection to someone else.
On boxing forums though it's useful to act as if the fighters rather than managers or promoters have the say because it makes it easier for the various cliques to antagonise each other by making personal comments about the fighters of the opposing 'tards. Ducking. Coward. Scared. etc.
If we were to acknowledge that it's generally not the actual fighters' fault then it'd just spoil everyone's fun here on NSB. Where would we be without the endlessly repetitive garbage filled hate threads between Tards and Haters of every stripe?
Alex Ariza would like to be an important person in boxing but he isn't. I don't make up my mind about something because Ariza says it's so. I am not convinced that Mayweather wants to fight Pacquiao but Arum doesn't want the fight to happen and surely not because Ariza says so. Ariza has no credibility with me. He is a want to be nobody in boxing.
It's confusing. If a fighter has no control over who he fights then he shouldn't call fighters out the way Thurman, Guerrero, Khan and others do. I think fighters do have some say in who they will or won't fight and how much or how little money is acceptable for a particular fight. I think fighters can say yes or no to fights in most cases.

because Canelo proved you can pick your own fights, even if its a horrible style matchup and a loss is possible, also Lara calling Canelo out helped that fight happen.
Similarly Froch could have veto'd the second Groves fight but caved to public pressure.
Yes Floyd did say he would never work with Bob Arum. I believe that was in 2007 when he left Top Rank. Before people wanted Mayweather & Pacquiao to fight. Manny has had the option to become a free agent yet he keeps running back to Arum. Floyd being his own boss called Manny on the phone and offered him fckin 40 million dollars. Again all this sht goes back to Manny doing as Arum pleases. I am sure Pacquiao would of taken the 40 mil when he had the chance.
This is non on topic tho
So just because Manny makes his own decisions in life instead coding what you and Mayweather want makes him a dumb or a bad person?

Because top fighters are in a position to pick their fights..
Floyd, manny, Marquez, cotto, canelo, wlad, etc.. They have the leverage to pick their fights..
If your some youngster like Verdejo or dulorme, then you don't have as much say..
