Rick claims that Espinoza continuously puts out false numbers to mislead the consumer and that the actual ppv # for Floyd/Maidana II is 772k buys.
Full interview over at the east side.
It's more likely the real PPV number is closer to the low end rather than the high end number being bandied around. However, even at the high end number, the fight will have been another financial bath for Showtime.
The only way to salvage Showtime's Mayweather experiment would be to have him fight Manny. And since Mayweather will never agree to that, expect Espinoza's head to roll once Mayweather does us all a favour and gets lost permanently.
You could tell that people inside Showtime are getting restless and unhappy with the constant mismatches and crappy fights they're spending huge amounts of money with. Jim Gray's post fight interview with Santa Cruz was very telling. They're starting to realize that they're spending huge money unnecessarily. 750K for fighting a sparring partner.
Mentioning a rival HBO's fighter was also telling in Mayweather's post fight interview. They've been rarely showing Paqcuiao's clips and name for a long while.

Funny thing is, Espinoza has the power to put all the rumors to rest. All he has to do is release an official statement that says how many PPV buys the event did. But as we all know, he's not releasing buy figures any more.
But believe the fight did 925K... just because. :boxing:
Espinoza IS a liar if he's the source of these fraudulent numbers. Remember, he himself announced recently that he's no longer releasing PPV numbers unless it breaks 2M. Why violate the rule you yourself created?
My point is...who is Glaser? what is his background?? and why should people believe him?
Rick is a matchmaker who worked with the likes of Larry Holmes and Roy Jones. As far as I know, he now does matchmaking for Don King Promotions.
Lately, he's broken news long before any other news outlet or boxing scribe has on major news concerning GBP. He was the first to break the Schaefer leaving GB controversy weeks before anyone else was reporting it. He also recently broke the Canelo leaving Showtime for HBO story.
It's clear he has a source inside of GBP, probably someone very high up the food chain. I doubt he's making up #s just for the hell of it. He stands by his figures and source(s). He has no ties to Bob Arum or DLH.
No fan should ever care for PPV numbers. But some shady characters in the business use fraudulent numbers to prop up their worth, then use it in the negotiating table. They should be investigated and hounded like dogs if you ask me.
LOL, I understand where you are coming from and believe me lying about it don't change their value.
Couldn't care less how many PPV it sold and I didn't read through 7 pages of comments but I'm guessing it went like this: Floyd dick riders: "whos rick glaser? He's nuts, he probably works for Arum".
Everyone else: "sounds about right"..
Am I right?
Who cares what the PPV was, all the fighters were paid and these #'s are showtimes and Money promotions problems now.
Floyd can have fun paying himself 32 mil.

Espinoza is a villainous liar. Glaser has never been more right with that statement. It's unfortunate how Showtime has sunk so low, but eventually more things are going to change as they've created an unsustainable environment.
What are you talking about? Pacquiao's last fight did the same amount of buys as Glaser claims Mayweather's last fight did.
And I wonder who Rick's source at GBP is. Must be someone high up because he's been getting details that only the main executives would be privy to (the Schaefer saga, Canelo's move to HBO, PPV figures). Could it be the Golden Boy himself? That would be a hell of a twist :lol1:

Like I said, you don't even need Glaser, Iole, Fat Dan, and others to know the truth, or something close to the truth.
For example, Schaefer and Espinoza never released an official number in the Guerrero fight, likewise, in the Maidana 1 fight. Months later Espinoza came out announcing they're no longer releasing PPV results unless it breaks 2M.
Common sense tells you that they did significantly less. It makes you wonder what's so wrong with reporting 600K to 900K? So they must be so embarrassingly low.
I had my own doubts with these fraudulent numbers for years. It started with the Ortiz/Mayweather fight. A week prior to the fight there was a report saying they were struggling to sell tickets. But lo and behold, weeks after the fight, Schaefer reports that they did more than 1 million.
