LAS VEGAS -- The thawing of relations between boxing's two most powerful promotional companies took another step forward on Thursday when Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya met with Top Rank CEO Bob Arum and president Todd duBoef.
Arum confirmed to Yahoo Sports that De La Hoya, in town to promote the Floyd Mayweather-Marcos Maidana pay-per-view card at the MGM Grand on Saturday, was in Top Rank's offices, but he declined to comment beyond that.
It is at least the second known meeting between the sides since July, when De La Hoya reached out to Arum in an attempt to settle their differences and begin working together again.
What has become known as "The Cold War" in boxing began in 2006 when Manny Pacquiao signed promotional agreements with Top Rank and Golden Boy at the same time. An arbiter sided with Top Rank, though it is required to pay Golden Boy a fee for each Top Rank-promoted Pacquiao bout.
Eventually, however, the dispute grew into a myriad of issues and former Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer declared his company would never work with Top Rank. Schaefer's departure from Golden Boy was hastened by his anger at De La Hoya for reaching out to Arum.
The significance of the meeting is that the companies can make major matches that have been unable to be made previously.
The topic of Thursday's meeting, which lasted about an hour, is unknown, but Golden Boy has Canelo Alvarez and he has been rumored to be interested in fighting Top Rank's Miguel Cotto for the WBC middleweight title.
There are, however, scores of good fights the sides can make.
The meeting is no reason for fans to begin dancing in the streets, but it's progress and looks like it's leading down the path that would end the lengthy dispute.
There are some fights I would much rather see than Canelo vs Cotto. GBP needs to leave top rank alone so GGG vs Cotto can happen. I would rather see Canelo fight Chavez instead of Cotto.
Chavez is still with Arum. Cotto could have GGG next if he wanted..he doesn't, and never will.
This is a good sign but I don't trust arum and all we've seen is oscar visitng arum at his home and office. One great sign that seems to be overlooks is that they also met with tod, hopefully he can convince arum to open his stable and co promote. One thing I don't get... Isn't cotto a fee agent
So, Why doesn't Arum pay Oscar a visit at GBP headquarters
Because Arum never had any plans to want to end the cold war. He's just happy Oscar is now kissing his behind
So, Why doesn't Arum pay Oscar a visit at GBP headquarters
That was my exact thought. I think it's because Arum really doesn't have any desire to co-promote. He's going to blow smoke up Oscar's @$$ and continue to keep all his fights and money in house.
Cmon Brush Lets just Be happy about it

Danny vs Pacquiao in April, Cotto vs Nelo on May 4th. What will Floyd do?
I think this is Khan's chance to fight Floyd in England, because if those 2 fights get made Floyd is screwed!
*I think Floyd will offer Cotto 15Mill for a MW fight just to still him from GBPs!
Theres rumors of Danny Vs Pacquiao, But I think Danny will fight Mayweather because he will get a better offer.
I really don't care until i see a damn Golden Boy fighter fighting a Top Rank fighter plain and simple.
Haymon fighters in GBP's backyard don't even fight each other. What makes you think the long cold war starts thawing just like that? Oscar don't even need TR if only these Haymon protected fighters fight each other. Right doe?
