That's no excuse. Unless you're blood related, you shouldn't have an excuse not to fight. Boxing is boxing, you earn money by fighting each other.
Mike Tyson said it best in this interview...(not the Broken Back bit lol)
(Spinal.)
But anyway, Tyson is American. American's don't have that "I can't fight you mentality". There's a lot of American fighters out there, successful one's. They don't care. Mexicans surely don't care, they really multiply, that's a huge country and boxing is huge there. They can afford to have the Morales vs Barrera's and Vazquez-Marquez, Corrales(Half Mexican)-Castillo type of fights. There's so many of them. The UK too, Frampton wants Quigg, Brook and Khan hate each other, I forget the deal between Haye-Khan-Froch, who hates eachother from those 3, if i'm not mistaken Khan and Haye are friends but they don't really get along with Froch or something. There's of course the recent Froch-Groves saga, DeGale vs Groves/Froch. There's so many fights in the UK, US, and Mexico that they can afford to fight each other and every domestic fight between top fighters in the UK is big. And how much does Froch, Haye, Khan get paid from UK money? Like 5 million euro+? Maidana-Matthysse wouldn't see that much money even in a Mayweather trilogy. Haye got a ridiculous amount of money for Chisora, Froch for Groves rematch also got a stupid paycheck because of the UK PPV rev. You really think Argentina is going to throw that money to Matthysse and Maidana? They did it for Martinez vs Murray, but that was vs UK fighter.
Boxing isn't a team sport. If they can make good money for a fight against each other, they should do it, especially if it elevated their career. Argentina has a lot of fighters anyway, they aren't Kazakhstan.
If they can really make good money, they would fight eachother. I highly doubt Showtime is offering those two big money to fight eachother. I think they would fight each other if they get offered like $2-3 million a piece, like big UK fights or US fights. If not, they'll probably wait till they are done at the top to cash out against each other.
Yes fighters come and go. In a couple years Maidana and Matthysse will be done too. Before that happens, they should raise their profile by fighting each other and giving the fans an entertaining slugfest.[/QUOTE I think in two years they will both be better than ever. They are about 6 years younger than Mayweather and 20 years younger than Hopkins and they take care of their bodies so they will be kicking ass for a lot longer than two more years.
I love both of them and I don't want them to fight each other in a war that would probably take a little out of both of these great warriors. I would rather they kick ass on all comers separately. There is no reason for them to fight since Maidana fights at 147 and Matthysse wants a rematch with Garcia at 140. You can compare their Broner bashings if you want to know who is better unless Broner backs out of his challenge to Lucas.
i wouldn't want this fight personally, only because im a fan of both and don't want the other to lose. But if the fight somehow gets made i would have no problem, it'll be a entertaining fight for all boxing fans, and it'll end the debate on who is better.
Martinez, Narvaez, Abregu, Chaves. Argentina is not hardpressed for successful fighters.
martinez is done, narvaez never leaves the country like reveco, abregu and cháves needs to prove themselves.
How many American fighters are there? How many Mexicans? UK fighters?
These guys could fight eachother and multiply.
There's few Argentine and Cuban fighters, so they don't like fighting their countrymen. It's pretty simple.
this is what i said at the beginning of this thread, when was the last time argentina had 2 fighters at this level? we don't produce the amount of champions that the US, mexico or puerto rico does for example, we wanna see them success not destroy each other.

matthysse gave maidana his first tattoo and they lived together growing up training on the Argentinean national team, they dont want to fight and i dont blame them. Different weights and there are so many other viable and makable matches for both guys. Only people that want this fight are the haters and the guys who fear these two warriors. They want these two to fight to take one out of the picture and to damage each other enough so they are not a threat to their favorite fighters ie. Garcia, broner, floyd, khan etc.
this. ive always thought that when people bring up that fight is because they want them to take each other out. they both have many options besides each other

They don't have to fight each other. They're from the same country.
:ugh:
Incredible isn't it? But you can bet your bottom dollar these same guys would have been sh1tting on Ward and Dirrell for not wanting to fight each other.
"Matthysse gave Maidana his first reach-around doe!"
Argentinian boxers are similar to Cuban boxers in regard to fighting eachother. There's so few of them, they rather not fighting each other and create another path. If they get offered crazy money, they would do it. I respect that.
They are both good friends and aren't really looking to fight each other even though they would if they had to. No problem doing it, but with good careers ahead of then without having to do it, why do it? They don't have any bad blood between them, argentines sure don't want to see their two best fighters mutuality destroy each other so other than some butt hurt Brit you don't really have that many people desperate to see this fight. That doesn't mean that maybe one day closer to the end of their careers they won't do something., maybe an exibition fight in luna park would be nice.

Even though it's not the same situation?
They ate, slept, and trained together from a young age. Illegally jumped on busses to catch ammy fights. Matthysse gave Maidana his first tattoo.
They haven't declined a fight. They said it makes no sense now. Which it doesn't. How does it make sense right now? Explain to me.
You have Garcia saying he would never fight Broner. Now how does that make sense. Those two have zero connection.
You have it right. They're close friends. They've known each other and trained together for years. Should friends be forced to fight? Impossible to say. I guess they probably shouldn't have to fight. Sorta like the Klitschko brothers deal.
That would be a great fight too, I think Matthyse has a lot of fights that can elevate him to the required level. Bradley, Provo, Broner, Berto etc
I think Provodnikov-Matthysse would be this generation's Gatti-Ward.
The fight I wanna see is Provodnikov-Matthysse.
That would be a great fight too, I think Matthyse has a lot of fights that can elevate him to the required level. Bradley, Provo, Broner, Berto etc
Right now they seem to be going in totally different career directions - Matthysse wants to get revenge on Garcia, and become the 140 champion. Maidana has his direction set on Mayweather, and probably further 147 fights in the future. If they were in the same division I'd be calling for the fight too
I'd love to see the fight though, but it probably won't happen. If they don't want to fight eachother, they won't. It's unsportsman-like and it happens far too often. If their friendship really is that close, then I can empathise with it as boxing has such a big mental factor to it. Same goes for Ward and Dirrel if its the same situation. Id prefer to see the fights though, as a fan of the sport
