During All-Access one of the things Garcia told Maidana was,
"Throw a lot of punches, but don't get too close so that you can throw the straight right hand."
Controlling the distance is one of the most important things you can do in a fight. The fighter who keeps the fight where he wants it wins the fight on overwhelming amount of the time. Needless to say, Floyd is a master of it. I showed some clips on it during a film study for the rematch
Mayweather vs Maidana Film Study
The thing is even though Garcia is giving Maidana the correct instructions, that doesn't mean he's going to be able to execute it against Mayweather come fight night. Floyd has every advantage; footwork, footspeed, handspeed, defensive ability, ability to adapt etc. Now on top of all that Mayweather has decided to work with Ariza. Guaranteed he comes in to this fight with more muscle than we've ever seen him with before. I think Floyd's ego is pushing him to go for the stoppage on this one.
Easy win for Floyd on this one. Maidana didn't look good at the weigh-ins. He already slowed down late last fight and Floyd knows the body shots are there.
Maidana can win this fight if he can stop Floyd holding, that'll be the difference in this fight.
I agree - and I also think Kenny Bayless will help Floyd by not penalizing him for holding.
The second fight will go pretty much like the first, only difference being Floyd will tie up Maidana much more during the first half, maybe rough him up a bit with the elbows as well.
Maidana needs to knock Floyd out - I just don't think he will ever get a decision at the MGM with Bayless as the referee.
Surely that's more about Bayless than Maidana.
The ref. will be key in this fight. Floyd isnt as fast as he once was, and Maidana has no respect for his power nor should he, while at the same time Maidana would ruin Floyd with puncher gloves. With powerlocks he will have to land more to stop Floyd, but it can still be done. Floyd only has to move around, land a little to get the UD. But if Floyd slows down just a bit Chino eats him alive. Floyd will depend ond the ref. to allow continuous holding and dirty fighting from his part, while stopping Chino from roughing him up. Not easy, but Maidana can indeed win this fight in spite of everything.
Maidana needs to go into this fight with moments in mind where he thinks he can throw the one punch to finish Floyd. I'm not saying to only look for a 1 punch KO, but he needs to be fully aware of certain moments where he can rip loose, knowing Mayweather's vulnerable.
Like that gif of him countering Mayweather's pull counter, he needs to look for moments like that to put everything he has on a punch.
Nah this fight is rigged when bayless was announced as referee. Bayless is textbook and isn't gonna allow those rabbit punches and will keep deducting points from maidana. I wouldn't be surprised is he disqualifies maidana.
If it was Steve smoger then that's a different story.
So the fight is rigged because a ref goes by the book??? wtf is wrong with ya'll?? why would any ref allow rabbit punches?
To stop any fighter from holding, you have to fight a clean fight.
Example, if Porter and his people wanted Brook to stop holding, all they had to do was keep their distance and try to throw cleaner shots instead of trying to smother Brook and duck under his armpits to let off sneaky inside punches(that missed anyway).
Of course, Maidana will not win a clean fight, he absolutely HAS to fight inside and charge with his head and fight dirty and if he does that, Floyd WILL elbow and hold, rightfully so. If some one is all up on me refusing to fight in a boxing match, choosing to wrestle instead, I don't want to hear any complaints about what I do to retaliate.
You have that back to front. A fighter that constantly holds like Mayweather invites roughhouse tactics and fully deserves to be on the receiving end of them.
Listen to yourself !!!!
The fight is rigged because the ref won't allow illegal tactics ????
Are you surprised? These were the same people who sneered at testing four years ago and supported fighters who BS'ed there way out of it. They're far more transparent than they think.
I noticed Garcia telling him about the straight right and maintaining distance. Sure we all saw it but it's still good advice. And I bet they have a few more tricks up their sleeve that they aren't revealing at all, like in the first fight. That counter to Mayweather's lead right was a pretty sick idea that was well-thought out, for instance.

When it comes to keeping fight strategies a secret, Mayweather is smarter than Garcia. Over the years Mayweather has never allowed taping of his sparring sessions where he actually implements his moves/strategy. On the other hand we have Garcia telling Maidana openly do this do that.
Mayweather started making adjustments right after he saw episode 1.

The fight is rigged because Bayless is a widely respected referee that won't allow the illegal stuff we saw the 1st fight that gave maidana the best chance to win.
The sad thing is you actually believe this.

He won't get any favours from Bayless, he has to address it himself. I don't think he will be able to.
I've rarely seen it happen, Porter v Alexander and Fury v Cunningham are the only exceptions which spring to mind. In both cases the bigger man was able to shrug off any attempts to hold. Maidana has no size advantage over Mayweather.

Good points billy. I'm wondering if maybe that added muscle and potentially different fight plan might backfire.
