It seems like too many people have agendas on both sides. If you look at things a bit more rationally and take things on case by case basis then I feel the jury is still out.
This weekends card was trash. Waste of time. I regret not being able to attend only because I missed hanging out with my boxing buddies afterwards. People who complain that Haymon gets fighters high pay for crap fights that eat network budgets have a point. It is his job however to get his clients the best possible deals though. We hate the aggressive lawyers that find a way to get the perp off but if we were the accused perp I bet we would hire the most aggressive shark of a lawyer our money could buy. Perspective.
If you hate on Haymon for putting trash cards together (like this past weekend) then you also have to tip your hat to the quality ones. We saw Danny in a mismatch this weekend. We also got to see Danny vs. Lucas on a huge PPV event. A great fight that makes an even bigger event more special. Seeing Khan vs Collazo and Broner in a feature fight as PPV support was also nice. You could say that those fights would have been better for free on World championship Boxing. Its a fair point but with the high visibility of the PPV cards they were actually on I don't think anyone missed out. Plus with the names involved it would have definitely ate up some of that network budget people seem to be so concerned about. I guess it comes down to if you prefer good/decent fights to stand on their own or to make a big event feel even bigger. Perspective
Card on 8/9-garbage. Card on 8/16-much better. Floyd/canelo w danny/matts-great. Some other cards-not so great.
Judge on the overall body of work rather than the usual demographic reasons. If you don't like the fact he's amassed a lot of power-get over yourself. Sometimes it's someone you don't like at the top. Deal with it.
When there are crap cards-remember the role the networks and promoters play.
When he does something wrong call him on it. When he does something right-deal with your unhappiness in a constructive way.
8/16 has 2 good fights. I dont need to see Bika Dirrell again. Put that rematch on foxsports. The khan collazo was good but Broner Molina was a joke. The 8/9 card was horrible and the 9/6 card with Broner Taylor and Matthysse Ortiz is garbage too.
Keep in mind that Porter-Brook is only happening because Brook is the mandatory.
On Floyd-Maidana2 Vazquez-Bey is one of the most unwatchable matchups made in recent memory. They better have good opponents for Angulo and Santa Cruz but based on this recent track record it looks doubtful.
He is a manager, why would I blame him for a fight card? I wouldn't why? Because there was a promoter involve. The promoter carries the blame for me, anyone blaming a manager is plain stupid IMO.
People blame him because he is powerful and has leverage. I agree that the promoters get off easy in the argument. He has become a scapegoat that stays in the shadows and it works out because he does not ever make a statement to defend himself or acknowledge the wrong doing. I'm not convinced he is better or worse for boxing than anyone else really.
The idea behind this thread is sound. Like most things on this site, most people approach things with their minds made up already. It almost feels like the site is split in two.
However, I would say you've gone a little easy on Haymon. That card was disastrous, one of the worst I can ever remember. Further, I think there was something quite repulsive and sickening in nearly getting Salka seriously, seriously injured just to ensure Danny got some easy money. It really left a bad taste in my mouth.
Fair point about that last card. Its not that I'm going easy on him (at least that's not my intent) its that I am indifferent about him. The mismatch was very bad. Your right about Salka's health as well but Haymon is not the most guilty party when it comes to that. Salka has people around him that should decide if money is worth that type health risk.

This is NSB! Common sense doesn't exist here! Hate and stupidity rules.
Boxing is a business, but it should be a sport too. Haymon doesn't seem to know this.
Maximizing short-term profits is not sustainable or business savvy. That's why boxing is a niche sport.
Thriving sports are businesses but also make sure that they are competitive and we find out who is the best. Fans are not attracted to the "business" in the long-term. I wouldn't care about the NBA if it was all about who makes the more money. I care because the Spurs can beat the Heat in the finals are DO GET A CHANCE.
When less than 800K constitute a good rating for the weekend's farce, you know the "sport" is settling for nothing. Imagine boxing with a commissioner and one champion per division. Imagine boxing as both business AND sport.

Floyd fans defend him no matter what. Everyone else sees things as they are.

exactly. it's like blaming cameron dunkin for a card promoted by top rank and shown on hbo. they have to agree to it.

haymon is not a promoter (yet). he's not a tv executive. his job is to get his fighters paid and he does a great job. his guys make money with low risk fights. blame the promoters and the stephen espinoza's of the world that allow him to do this. ken hershman put an end to it at hbo.
He's not a fighter, he's a manager. I can careless about the guy personally and he should be critizised for that card last weekend. But that was then this is now. It's really time to move on.
