He's to big for Cotto and to clever for Alvarez. He beats them both.
I can Cotto and Alvarez fighting eachother soon(ish), so GGG will have to target Quillin if he wants to unify belts.
I honestly don't see to many 'big names' at 160 or 168 wanting to face him at all.
I'm a fan of both, no I don't think that Canelo's success against those who stood in front of him will be similar to what I imagine is conceivable against Golovkin. Not one bit, again I know what Golovkin is capable of, I've noted how well he utilizes his jab just as well as anyone. The bold is where I stand as well.
Again, I'm VERY interested in seeing how Golovkin deals with an opponent who's gonna stand in with him, smother him at times and work his combinations up close.
that was clearly the gameplan for stevens. they end up eating shots in exchanges and backing up. that's if they can keep form getting backed up by the jab.
Golovkin is the reason Canelo spouts off bull**** like he plans to fight his whole career at 154 even though the clowns last two fights were at a catchweight since he's outgrown the weight class. I think he's a decent fighter but when i read that quote he lost me as a potential supporter.
agreed. every fighter at 160 and below thinks long and hard about what golovkin will do to his career.
he doesn't just give guys losses, he beats their asses and ruins their confidence.
if your chin is good enough to get you through some rounds you'll end up in the f#cking hospital.
I am a big Canelo fan but Canelo hasn't been dazzling with accuracy as of late. Look at his fights against Trout, Lara and Floyd and his punch accuracy wasn't there. He missed a LOT!
To be honest with you - GGG's jab and knowledge of distance and timing will be too much of a hurdle for Canelo.
Canelo's fights against Angulo and Shane are not indicative of how he would fare against GGG because neither of these two has a good jab, not even Shane in his prime. They are small and light hitters compared to GGG and again they don't have the sense of timing and space.
Can I see Canelo giving GGG fits and possibly winning, it's not inconceivable. He needs to show much better accuracy though and be more consistent.
I can't pick an inconsistent fighter over a fighter that's been consistent. We don't even know what boxing style Canelo will use for his next fight.

agreed. they see canelo push around junior welterweights like lopez and all of a sudden in their eyes canelo is the biggest puncher in the world.
Canelo fan: "He's George Foreman in a JMW's body."
Me: "He's a MW pretending to be a JMW, pretending to have George Foreman's power."

Oh ok, i got the idea that Canelo's supposed affect on Lara would translate to Golovkin too, if this isnt the case then my bad my friend

canelo's power gets completely overrated by his fans. truth is the only top ten ranked jr middleweight canelo was able to stop was a past it and euro level ryan rhodes hahahahahaha.
if mosley and angulo can take repeated shots from canelo then i'm sure a middleweight like golovkin will be fine. no need to worry. only people who need to worry about who can take who's punches are canelo fans.
They have an inflated perception of what Canelo really is. Canelo really isn't all that.
Well ok maybe youre right, but what has that got to do with Golovkin? Lara doesnt have a solid chin, he relies on movement to take leas punches and less direct shots. He was floored by Angulo, who isnt some monster puncher. The Lara situation and a theoretical Golovkin one do not fit together. Golovkin has a solid proven iron chin

Golovkin ate some monster left hooks from Stevens - punches that would have floored most fighters. Golovkin didnt even flinch. He has an iron chin.
Canelo, who isnt known for being a 1 punch KO artist, or even a KO artist generally, at 154, I just dont see how he'll trouble Golovkin. Canelo would be eating some Golovkin bombs if he tries to pressure him, as either fighter isnt that hard to hit. Its Canelos negativity id be worried about
Not oblivious to how well he took those punches too, he answered a lot of questions that night but those punches landed too far in between. Canelo is far more skilled than Stevens, faster on the trigger.
Also, people are getting the wrong idea on power, I'm not saying it's a necessity for Canelo to hurt or drop Golovkin, if his punches are strong enough that Golovkin is visibly slowing down because of it, more conservative as well...that's good enough as it is.
It was, I've watched the fight enough times to say that. Lara's approach completely changed after round 4, his approach looked far more distinctive in comparison to rounds 1 through 3. Lara knew exactly what needed to be done to win, HE KNEW, his early success showed that, he clearly strayed away from that because of Canelo's power. You know, a good margin believed Angulo got bought, that's how broken his spirit was after round 1, he was able to reawaken at times but Canelo took it out of him.

Golovkin's power isn't in question, he's arguably P4P the hardest puncher in the sport. Only person raising that question here is you, I'm simply saying it's important to note what kind of effects Canelo's early assault would have on Golovkin, as he's the likeliest to test that theory first. Maybe Golovkin has seen better punchers, maybe he hasn't but it's entirely different when that power is thrown in combinations.
This has become a useless back and forth, you refuse to see that Canelo's power brought on the negativity Lara displayed and killed Angulo's spirit. You can keep questioning it though, I've seen that happen time and time again. I just know Golovkin will give Canelo all the counter punching opportunities needed to answer what I'm looking for.
I only now read your previous replies.
If I got it right you think/know that Canelo would try to bring the fight to GGG, get off first.
It is not unreasonable but it is extremely risky. GGG is the kind of guy that can hurt almost anybody with one punch.
Get off first, transition to defense, counter in the pocket. It is easier said than done.
One mistake, one punch he doesn't see coming and it could be the end of the night.
As for fighting on the inside, GGG has a very good jab, I do not think it'll get to who is pushing who where. And Saul doesn't normally fight like that.
In my opinion Canelo would end up fighting off his backfoot pretty soon, allowing GGG to dictate the pace. And that would be when he needs to move.
However, it's a fight I'd like to see, more so than GGG vs Cotto.
I must disagree. It wasn't Canelo who made Lara fight that way. That's the way he fights when pressured. He standed more against Angulo, because Angulo mas more willing to take punches to get in close and he did just that. Lara tried to move at every chance he had.
And Angulo didn't have his spirit broken, he arguably had his best round one round before the stoppage. He was just outclassed, but never broken.
Against Golovkin, i can see Canelo getting some good punches in. But let's not pretend that Golovkin has the same approach as Angulo. He has one of the best jabs in boxing and uses it to set up everything. That jab would disturb Canelo's rythim and move him back and then Golovkin would go after him.
I can see Canelo making it competitive for about four rounds, but then Golovkin takes over and its a wrap.

golovkin's chin has already been tested and he routinely spars light heavyweights and heavyweights. what part of that don't you get? and how is canelo's power legit? canelo landed punch after punch after punch against a small and past it mosley and couldn't even drop him. not even ONCE. canelo landed punch after punch after punch against angulo and couldn't even drop him or badly hurt him. and canelo couldn't drop lara when many of his fans said he would.
canelo's power is completely overrated. mosley was right when he said that canelo hits like floyd. so we don't need to worry about how well golovkin can take canelo's mediocre power because ggg has an iron chin.
what you and the rest of canelo's fans need to worry about is whether canelo can take ggg's punches. heavyweights who have sparred ggg said he hits just like a heavyweight. kovalev says ggg hits like a hammer, etc. etc.
GGG power = legit, and his chin = legit
