Over the years there were a lot of prospects looking like the future of boxing but never reached their potential. My list would be, Victor Ortiz, Chris arreola, Andy Lee, Alfredo angulo(love the guy but he could never get over the hump) Andre dirrell, Edison Miranda, and Joel Julio(everyone including me was hyping him as the next great welterweight at 21, but it just never happened)
I was thinking Lacy too. Maybe Pavlik. Didnt do nething after beating Taylor.
He had a nice career. I don't think it could have gotten any better. Beat Miranda, Taylor 2x, Rubio, got beat up by Hopkins, fought Martinez in a competitive fight. It wasn't going to get any better, he was just gonna get beat by Ward if he fought him, and maybe the Williams fight would have been a barn burner but he did have those good fights with Zertuche, Taylor, Miranda, and Rubio.
His career panned out, but he ran it into the ground.

Joan Guzman
/End Thread.
Guzman was a multiple division champ, ortiz and Juanma also won titles...what do ya'll expect out of a fighter?
Panchito Bojado. Wonder what happened to that guy. In the early 2000's he was getting a little hype and then after his first tough fight against some journeyman he just fell off.
Jorge Linares could be thrown in the mix.
Odlanier Solis is a total waste no doubt, super talented guy, but he himself stated many years ago that he never liked boxing and only did cause he was naturally good at it. In Cuba he was forced to train and it showed how good he could be in the 2004 Olympics. Unfortunately in the pros you can do whatever and he choose the lazy life over boxing.
Anybody who has won a world title is no longer a prospect, why is that fact so hard to understand for some people?
A prospect means a prospective champion, so when they win a belt the prospect label was justified and removed and replaced with champion or ex champion
Jeff Lacy is a name that springs to mind. He was hyped, had a decent amateur career, and was a favourite going into the fight with Calzaghe. Then Joe slapped the soul out of him.

This is an actual good post by you,, congrats..
Though i will say the guys you mentioned still have some time, they are all pretty early into their careers..
He was champion for a brief time I believe, but Vivian Harris deserves a mention. Sillakh is a good one. I though he was gonna be something.
I never rated Sillakh, still remember a number of arguments I had with members on another forum, ppl were hyping him to the skies.
well he is still undefeated but the clock is ticking...Frankie Gomez might be a candidate for this list pretty soon...he is fighting tonight FS1 i think

Was going to post this, I don't think people remember the HYPE surrounded JuanMa Lopez a few years ago
I think Arum thought he had the next Cotto because he sure did Protect the hell out of him from Gamboa:sad:
Andre Berto OF COURSE agree with others Posting Victor Ortiz he was Oscar first Protege before Canelo lol
Consider the HYPE behind Bute and Lemieux before they got knocked out, Lemieux seem like he is working his way back but after the Pascal loss, that put a END to BUTE!
I dont see how any body can call an ex champ a prospect, when you win the belt that is when the prospect label is officially justified and removed.
Those are ex champs who did not live up to the expectations.
