I dunno why so many people are complaining about this fight, it's a good match up. Just because Algieri hasn't got a big name it doesn't mean he's not a good fighter, he's a skilled, crafty guy and not easy to look good against. He'll make Pac work for his win and he won't look good doing it.
People wouldn't say a thing if Pac was fighting Provodnikov, I'll never understand why. Algieri has proven he's better than Provodnikov and is a stylistically tougher fight for Pac. Pac would shut Provodnikov out with ease, nobody in boxing is better at dealing with face-first robots like Provodnikov than Pac.
Also bear in mind that Pac's options were limited, we've already seen him fight Marquez enough times, he just thought Bradley, Provodnikov is an easy fight, as is Abregu...who else is left?
the macau card yesterday :
- they hada 8 round fight changed to a 6 rounder during the fight to benefit a fighter
- referee for rigo fight made several horrific mistakes in a few seconds
There is zero chance the judges in macau will score against pacquaio
algeiri doesnt punch hard enough to knock pacquaio out
the outcome is inevitable so whats the point of the fight
to fight a guy like pacquaio you should have a deserving enough resume and algeiri does not
its that simple
but obviously you know best
That short chubby ref was funny to watch...
This fight is a step down from the Rios fight. And even that was pretty one sided. But Rios was understandable because Pac needed a chance to redeem himself from the KO loss. My theory is, if all the marketable interesting fighters in Pac's division are managed by Haymon or GB, then Roach and Pac should've took that into consideration. I get tired of hearing excuses like oh Arum don't do business with Haymon. Don't get me wrong, I hate Bob Arum. But we need to start blaming the fighters too. I get tired of this.
it's isn't an excuse according 99.9% of nsb......so pac should be held to the same standard. at least floyd is fighting top ww's.
I'm asking for your opinion, not what others on here think.
And didn't Pac just fight Bradley? Has Floyd ever fought a welterweight as good as Bradley?
Guerrero, Ortiz and Maidana aren't top welterweights ma man. Just like Rios isn't a top welterweight. Cut out the double standards.
Based on what? What has this guy ever done that makes people think that he could cause one of the best fighters of this era to struggle? I'm not singling you out, but it's an open question. To my knowledge, I've seen three Algieri fights: Peralta, Taylor, and Provodnikov. From those alone I think he's in a world of trouble. Somewhere along the way a myth was born that Algieri is this master boxer, but I just don't see it. Peralta frequently beat him to the punch, touched him often exposing a leaky defense, and had him on shaky legs at times. He did his best work in outboxing Taylor, which at world level doesn't impress me much. And he had a tough fight with a one trick pony in Ruslan. I thought they fought to a draw but it is what it is, a good win.
Nothing I've seen shows me that he's ready to face an offensive threat like Pacquiao, an explosive southpaw that's going to show him speed and angles that he's never encountered. The most experienced boxers have had issues dealing with it, so consider me skeptical that a guy with a kickboxing background will pass the test. Algieri has no power at 140, so I can't see him discouraging Pac at all at welter. I think he's going to Macau to be dismantled.
At this point just moving on Pac frustrates him. He doesn't want to give chase. And when he hurts Algieri, Algieri will start moving and make Pac give chase. At that point we get an uneventful fight where a bored, annoyed Pacquiao looks average against someone who is dancing away from him.
I think that's highly possible. Old shot Mosley did it to a better Pac than now.
I think it's a good style clash myself and I would not be surprised if Algieri outboxes Pacman tbh. The only thing I don't like is ppv. Then again I don't like any ppv. So I won't complain about Pacman's when there are other ppv matches that were complete garbage. You can't support one trash ppv and hate on the next cause you like the main attraction in one and not the other.
Oh alright, we'll play that game.
So Floyd not fighting Pac due to promotional reasons is not valid excuse then?
it's isn't an excuse according 99.9% of nsb......so pac should be held to the same standard. at least floyd is fighting top ww's.
Like i said before its a good fight, but there are better options especially at this point of his career. Waste of time and for whats left in his tank.
it's an excuse, you idiot......you dummies use networks and promoters when your favorite fighter wants to duck a fight.....but when it's a fighter you don't like, all that stuff goes out the window. the ww division is stacked......and the reason you see pac fighting rios' and algieri's is because he choose to cherrypick them.

It's not an excuse you donkey, it's facts. TR and HBO don't do business with GBP/Haymon/Showtime. For now anyway.

Problem here is that your thread title tries to argue that it's a good fight, but then when it's pointed out how far off elite Algieri is, how there are so many guys clearly better, you want to discuss the TR-GBP-Haymon situation. So straight away you give up on arguing that it's a good fight and switch to arguing that it's simply the best fight that could be made, which isn't the same thing. And as always Pacquiao doesn't rock the boat to try and get a better fight made but we've all just pretty much accepted that by now.
They could and should have gotten Marquez before turning to this. Overpay him if you have to, the guy laid you out on your face in front of the world, you can either go for revenge or face a guy who everyone knows has no chance against you, I guess we've seen what the decision was on that one.
Algieri is a bad fight because everyone knows he will lose. You are trying to defend the fight but even you don't think he's going to win. All you're saying is that Pacquiao won't look good. How do you see Algieri doing against the top 10 at 147?
You're saying there are more deserving fighters out there, I don't disagree with that, but those fights can't be made. That doesn't mean this isn't a good fight though.
We've seen him fight Marquez 4 times, plus Marquez is apparently not too keen on doing it again. And just because I think Pac will win it doesn't mean it's not a good fight and that Algieri can't win.
Algieri would do well against Marquez, Alexander and Maidana from the top 10. He'd beat at least one of them imo.
Algieri's potential to be competitive or even win are irrelevant to why this is a bad fight.
Manny Pacquiao, #2 WW, arguably the #2 p4p fighter in the world and at least top 5, an ATG beyond question, is fighting a top 10 JWW who has one notable win, which is a questionable win at that. And it's a PPV fight.
I agree that Algieri could make things difficult for Pacquiao. At the very least I expect Pac to give his haters plenty of ammunition by struggling. And I do like Algieri. But it's still not a good fight, at all. There are many fighters for whom Chris Algieri is a good fight to take. Pacquiao is not one of them.

fu(k that network bs.....y'all idiots only use that excuse when it's convient. pac had plenty of options. this is a ***** fight and there is no way you can spin this.

Of course he's more deserving, but he's not a realistic option. Not for Pacquiao anyway. Are we gonna ignore the promotional/network barriers?
He deserves a Floyd fight more than Maidana. His resume is already better than Maidana's despite only recently breaking into the scene.

here is someone who is more deserving and more intriguing fight

One good win in a lower weight class isn't enough. There are probably 10 or so more deserving, more proven guys at 147.
Care to name some of those more deserving and proven guys? Are they realistic, available options?
Floyd is not fighting someone at ''catchweight'' with mere 8 KO'es coming off a ''Dodgy'' win, Maidana has over 85% KO ratio and put on a great performance in the first fight also is a Solid WW with power, also he gave Floyd massive trouble in the first fight. He deserved the rematch.
and please don't try to compare Algeri with Maidana now, Maidana would probably Knock him out before 6 and Maidana would probably knocked Pac out too.
Pac how ever could have fought Marquez,Khan,Guerrero,Alexander and a lot of other guys, this definitely is a cherry pick, Algeri doesn't possess anything which makes me think he can give Pac any sort of trouble Maidana atleast has KO power, the fact that this fight's happening in China makes things ever Worse for Algeri.
Man the lack of knowledge on this forum is unreal sometimes. Maidana would be an easier fight than Algieri for Pac. Maidana is a face-first robot, he offers nothing Pacquiao hasn't seen and dealt with before. Pac would box his head off and win a comfortable, wide UD. Maidana has been beaten every time he's fought somebody who can box, but he would knock out the best fighter of this era? Okay...
Floyd Maidana is not 50-50. Floyd will take the rematch 9-3 or even 10-2 so is that a good fight?
