I say have a couple of coin flips winner chooses:
arena/venue and banner name or 60/40 split and enter ring first.
And just in case
coin flip chooses weight 154-160 if for the mw title
Exactly. Canelo not only wants it more but he needs it more. Cotto will call the shots, get top billing, walk out second, get the larger purse share, etc.
And Oscar is Arum's ***** so anything Cotto's team wants they will get.
i wouldnt go as far as anything cottos team want, but they will let cotto walk second, top billing, the share could be equal, and the fight is happening at vegas...
now the question in this thread is : who should be considered the A side? and thats a whole different story...
Thats really tough to call.
How about CANOTTO: The Battle For The A-Side
We'll know what theyre talking about haha ;-)
My vote goes with Cotto vs. Canelo. Based on Cotto's career. But goodness thats going to be a great negotiation table.
even know canelo is a bigger draw it seems that canelo wants this fight more than cotto, and is not about the money, he wants cottos name on his resume...
because of that canelo probably lets cotto act like a diva just to get the fight...

Cotto will be the A-side. If he's not the fight will not happen. Dude has the ego the size of Mount Everest. No way he lets a 23 year old kid push him around in negotiations. There is no price on his ego.

I still dont get why people say Canelo is a bigger draw. Outside of the Mayweather fight Canelo has never out draw Cotto in similar situations. Cotto did better ratings against Trout than Canelo did, he does better at the gate and has the better PPV resume.
because he is a bigger draw.
cotto has merely been around longer. canelo brings more money and ppv buys to the table. the numbers clearly demonstrate that.
canelo-angulo did well over 350k according to schaefer ...
i went with the LA times article that said they did "well over 300."
we all know these numbers get cooked, anyway.
that canelo got close to as many buys against angulo as cotto did against martinez, the middleweight champion of the world, speaks volumes.
If Canelo is such a big draw why did he get 1.5 million for Lara and Cotto got 7 million for Martinez?
why did canelo get 8 million fighting angulo when his purse was only 1.2??
canelo is going to end with much more than 1.5 vs lara you can count on that..
cotto fights a bigger name for the MW title and couldnt even get more than canelo did vs angulo(no title and both coming off a loss)...
canelo is the bigger draw, but cotto is the middleweight champion of the world. cotto can go elsewhere.
where else can canelo go? they won't do a floyd rematch. cotto - mayweather for the MW title is a more viable fight.
i think they'll take similar money. i think alvarez is the bigger draw, but the fact that cotto holds the MW title as a free agent, and has other options because of it, mean that he will have a fairly even split.
5-600 K buys. that is a lot of PPV buys.

Would Chris Algieri get more money than Canelo if they were going to fight?
if we go by cottos logic the title means schiet when you are not the bigger draw...
i think that's fair.
i will say this:
mayweather - cotto did 95 million in revenue
mayweather - alvarez did 150 million
cotto - martinez, the middleweight champion of the world, did 350 K
alvarez - angulo, both coming off of losses, did 300K. angulo freaking quit in his last fight.canelo-angulo did well over 350k according to schaefer ...
We should wait to see the PPV numbers for Alvarez/Lara before anyone says for sure which is the bigger draw.

definitely cotto.
cotto is the world champion, ranked top ten p4p, veteran of the sport, beloved by all, charismatic, magnetic smile and personality, speaks english, intelligent person, bigger fanbase etc.
all that didnt count for the martinez fight...
