I'm not sold on how solid Chavez chin is but I do definitely believe Thurman is a much bigger hitter and to be honest I thought Chavez looked like he was dealing fine with what Thurman was bringing forth to him.
If Chavez can get off his big shots and be able to tie Rios up when need be I can definitely see him winning this with ease and maybe just maybe he can knock Rios out.
I'm with the TS, in that I think this is a horrible fight for Rios. But a great fight for us as fans. It cant suck, it just cant.
The problem as I see it for for Rios is that he just dosent have enough movement. A big part, from what I have seen recently, is that his legs may be going. He balloons between fights and dosent have the mental clarity to know how to box effectively. The dude just want to throw down and thats taken a toll on him.
If you take the Thruman fight as an example, Chaves was touching Thruman pretty consistently and in combination until Thurman decided to move. Which he did pretty well.
Chaves is pretty heavy handed and lets his shots go. Rios is going to be standing in front of him all night so I see him getting caught too many times. I doubt he goes down for the 10, but the ref or the corner is probably going to step in.
Mike Alvarado, and Richar Abril outboxed Brandon Rios
Let that sink in for a minute.
Rios is not a good boxer. He's a watered down version of provodnikov and that's saying a lot
I've never seen him besides the Thurman fight, and he did well there. Rios isn't exactly a world beater, and he has to be close to over that brawling edge, if he isn't already. Chaves might wreck him.
Heh Damn, i would be lying if i didn't think this fight wasn't dangerous for Rios, but some of y'all are really overating Chaves. He did good against Thurman, another overrated fighter imo, for a short time then Keith took over and Chaves was just throwing left hook haymakers with out any real technique. He is faster than Rios, does that mean he punches harde? Who has he fought besides Thurman? I'll take Rios in 11.
Haven't seen enough of Chaves to really favor him, only the Thurman fight and a few fights against seemingly overmatched opponents. But i was impressed in the Thurman fight. He clearly has speed and power, I'm not sure how many wars Rios can have in a row and still be fresh. The amount of punches he takes plus his weight fluctuation don't lend themselves to long careers, and after taking a 12 round beating from Manny, this could be the fight where it catches up to him.
I like Chaves BIG TIME in this match up, I wouldn't even consider it a Upset if he wins to be honest I am kinda expecting him to win.
The lost to Thurman for Chaves, Thurman is just that good and he is a BIG Welterweight and his Power is devastating. Thurman also can move around a bit and knows when to back away and he has good BOXING SKILLS.
Rios is NOTHING like that, Rios is very easy to hit, he uses no head movement so this means Chaves will have no problem landing clean with his Power. I see him doing some serious damage to Rios if Rios doesn't move his head more in this fight.
This could be a lot like Molina vs Matthysse, very explosive
Chavez is clearly the better boxer but he's not simply going to outbox him. It'll be a battle of attrition and we know what Rios is made of.
Chavez might not be as tough and rescilient as his countrymen, ifhe is cut from the same cloth as guys like Maidana and Matthysse he beats Rios.
True, if Chavez's chin holds up Rios might be in for another rough one. I hope Rios brain is intact win or lose… dude's slurring is beyond horrid, I have to guess his words to put his sentences together.
I could see it going either way. Rios has the toughness to survive a ton of punishment, but it could be that against the right guy with heavy enough hands we could see that finally fail him.
On the other hand, it's possible that for all Chaves has to offer - and in all the ways he may be superior to Rios - he may just not be able to keep Rios off of him, and his own ability to absorb the punishment he's dished may not be great enough.
I think it comes down to whether Rios can survive some early damage and turn it into a war of wills. If he can, I'd have to favor Brandon. But Chaves has a decent chin and is clearly more skilled. I think it's a great opportunity for him. Rios is a overdue for a real beatdown with a style like his.
whatever the outcome, Rios's eyes are gonna swell up bad. I think Chaves is faster and hits harder. His chin is legit too. He'll probably beat Rios at his own game.
I'll take Chaves for the upset. Rios is a live dog in any fight though. Unless Manny still has his confidence in a jar on his mantle next Margarito's eye.
:lol1: :lol1:
If it goes down to whose guns shoot the bigger bullets it's going to be a classic, and it seems like it will go down that route. I can't call it but this one will have Lampley in a coma when it's over.

I think Rios breaks him down. We all know Rios doesn't fold and I can't see him getting outslugged.

Hard to stay. When Thurman finally landed a few big shots Chavez folded relaitvely easily. He's no Maidana or Matthysse.
I't's 50-50 for me, but if I was put on the spot I choose Rios.
