Ok, so like the title states find a great fighter that is missing a key attribute that would catapult him to new heights.
My example is Khan. He is lightning fast with stinging power and can actually box well, although he often gets dragged into brawls. That's fine and all except for his notorious chin. Now that he is fighting under Virgil he is clinching to suppress his foes onslaught which is fine and dandy until a feint or awkward angled shot lands. Clinching has its perks but it's a boring/dirty tactic in the sport that isn't penalised as often as it should be. Now, if Khan had a chin of steel and could eat bombs with his tea for brunch, then Khan would be the real deal. For now he can put on a good fight against any good quality fighters but would have a difficult time against the harder punchers that can actually box well. :killyou:
No hate, just my point of view. Now I'm interested on your thoughts. Which fighter in your opinion is missing a key physical attribute that enables him to reach the elite level of the sport? Which attribute would it be(power, speed, chin or movement)? Excited to read your responses.
*Add On* Feel free to do the same with an Elite Fighter or top notch contender by removing a key attribute that would remove his status. For instance, if JJC Jr. didn't have a good chin, he wouldn't have survived in the boxing game as long as he has with the current skills he possess. Anyway back to the thread, let's hear your thoughts!
Wladimirs chin is underrated. 95% of every heavyweight that gets hit right on the chin by someone like Saunders goes down. Wladimir took a pretty good right hook by Thompson and wasnt shaken. Thompson hit Price with the same shot and Price went down. If anyone has a chin of a nine year old its Price.
If I were able to give Wlad something I'd say better nerves/composure whatever you want to label it as he panics when guys get close that is a big issue.
wladimir doesn't need to fight inside. he clinches.
he'd be the perfect modern HW if he didn't have the chin of a nine year old boy.

Jorge Linares with a chin would be very similar to Amir Khan with chin in my opinion. Tons of speed and sharp skills with a good pop and godly chin, yeah... game over.
I was thinking, what would Margarito have been without his God like chin? I think he wouldnt of have lasted as long as he did. Cotto would have destroyed him on their first encounter.
Or Manny Pacquiao without his fancy footwork, how far would he have really made it? His hand speed and chin still present as well as his stinging power but no foot movement would have made Rios vs Pacquiao a real brutal fight.
Soto-Karass
sergio's defense was fine in his prime. the guy was fast as hell, and not all that easy to hit in spite of his being aggressive.
his problem is that his defense relied entirely on reflexes and speed. when those went, so did his style.
Disagree...he's always been hittable.
Gamboa- Chin

Floyd has power, just not at 154 or 147. Floyd was knocking fools out at lower weight classes.
he was never a true puncher, and generally required a multitude of rounds to break a man down.
roberto duran was a 135 lber with power. you think floyd hits like that? because you're wrong if you do.
duran hurt durable guys much larger than floyd, namely iran barkley. hell, he even stunned hagler. that's power.
prince ward - power
floyd mayweather - power
jermain taylor - stamina

People that say Kahn is a great boxer, with excellent skills, speed, good all around ability, but just lacking a chin are missing some major league flaws of his.
The point is that he doesn't have good boxing skills. He leaps in, has terrible defense, is often very off balance with his footwork, drops his hands and stays in punching range after throwing a combination without thought of what's coming back.
It's actually his poor skills that get him in trouble more than his chin in my opinion. He's got a decent offensive arsenal in general, a nice jab, excellent speed and size, but he's very lacking in nearly all other areas of boxing technique and skill.
Not that his chin helps! :lol1:
Excellent point. His boxing skills are overrated. He does have many good to great physical attributes though; that's why he's a very frustrating fighter to watch. With all the physical tools and advantages he has, he should be dominating.
Manny pacquiao- defense I'm saying he has none but if it was a little sharper like say the rios fight on the regular.
Khan- chin, stamina he gasses by about the 6-7 round and having the crap chin that he does that's not good he needs to learn to pace him self more instead of trying to blast guys outta there we'll **** now that I think about it there's a lot khan needs to improve
Broner - footwork he has none head movement he doesn't have that either.
Bradley- power
Bradley with power would simply be scary. He was good enough to manage to land significant shots on Pacquiao in the earlier phase of their 2nd fight, imagine if he had one punch KO power behind those shots! The crazy thing about Bradley is the fact that he actually likes to brawl and easily gets dragged to deep waters due to his heart and aggression, sadly his power isn't up to par with his testosterone overload style.
