Watched the fight thrice and base on my unbias eyes it could have been provo 114-112. It seems like provo landed significant shots and he was the champion on the fight. It ain't a robbery like the dsg vs herera fight. It is bad judging or home cooked :boxing:
When I watched the fight the first time, I had it a draw. When I rewatched it, I had Provo winning by 2 points.
It was weird, Algieri seemed to frustrate Provo, but he was really not landing much. He won half the rounds for showing a lot of spirit, but Provo also earned his half of the rounds. Both were missing a lot, but I think many got to cheering Algieri on after suffering the damage he did early.
I really don't understand what the debate here is. Provodnikov looked ordinary in there, and got his ears boxed off by a guy who the general public had never heard of prior to the bout. Algieri deserves credit - Provodnikov gave himself away in the post fight interview, stating he'd rather fight someone who will stand in front of him. Algieri boxed very well and Provodnikov looked extremely confused on how to approach him. The 114-112 card was perfect.
How is anybody supposed to take this seriously when you've got scorecards like this...
Anthony Largar (BadLeftHook) : 118-108 Provodnikov
Steve Weisfeld (HBO Boxing) : 117-109 Provodnikov
Adam Abramowitz (Saturday Night Boxing) : 116-110 Provodnikov
The Boxing Tribune : 119-107 Provodnikov
Hahaha wow!! I think these guys were drunk while scoring the fight. :smashfrea
To be the champ you have to BEAT the champ
Pretty much everyone is saying it was a close fight. Did Algeiri do enough to BEAT Prov after getting dropped twice? No way
Really? Did Pac do enough to beat the champion in Marquez II? No. It was a much closer fight than this one, so by your own definition, Pac couldn't have won it.
Didn't say Provo lost every round except the 1st. Why don't you go read that again and get back at me.
You didn't indeed. Algieri said he was seeing well until the eighth round.
If Algieri won every round except the first, how do you explain the press scores? Are they all bitter Provodnikov fans? They have to be impartial if they want to stay credible.

Still bitterness abound ey?! Provo was damn near (lucky) to have landed that big shot in round 1. Because if it wasn't for the damage he caused in that round, he may very well have not won any.

I think it just demonstrates the importance of volume yet again. Algieri looked to be controlling the pattern of the fight and he threw a huge volume of punches. I had it narrowly for Provodnikov but it's not hard to see why the judges would have liked Algieri.
Algieri has decent snap on his shots too. He's not just a pitty-pat merchant. The point about Ruslan scoring all the best shots is well taken though. He probably landed the best shot in every round.

He beat the champ. He won 8 rounds.

You beat the champ, by winning the fight like usual, which is by winning rounds. The champ doesn't get extra points for being the champ and the challenger shouldn't have to win in any specific manner. Algieri outboxed him and again highlighted all of Ruslan's flaws. Deserved the win and deserved the belt

TS, I disagree with you. I dont care who anyone thinks won but 2 of the judges had it 114-112 and nearly all these scores are on board with that either way. It was just a close fight so I personally didnt care who got the W. Basically, Im saying that these scores dont prove to me that most think Provo won or they definitely dont prove that he was robbed. It just says that it was a close fight that couldve gone either way, especially sans he knockdowns
I shouldn't have said "most". My mistake. The point I was trying to make is that it was a close fight and it wouldn't have been a robbery, or even controversial, if Provodnikov had retained his title. I just feel that boxing fans here didn't give him a fair shake because they were too eager to see a "one-dimensional brawler" get exposed and call him a hypejob. As you said the press scores show us that the fight could have gone either way.
When did Evil Abed become media?
The Phantom has been doing it for a while, remember when he used to post everything like Hougigho does now, I guess he gets paid now.
