Mayweather last year almost pulled a surprise to boxing fans when he announces he's gonna face Devon Alexander instead of Guerrero, this year, just when everyone thought Amir Khan is gonna get his shot, Floyd chooses Maidana.
Since Mayweather is gonna fight on September 13 and there are plans of defending his two titles on the same night, his choices has been narrowed down to a Maidana rematch (I honestly believe Floyd doesn't want it) and Danny Garcia.
In between Danny Garcia and the number 1 rank welterweight Keith Thurman, Garcia is the win-win fight for Floyd, Danny has fought the familiar names (Morales, Khan, Judah, Matthysse) but has yet to beat a 147-pounder and didnt look good in his last fight.
One thing going for Thurman that Mayweather can consider is what happen to Canelo in September last year, who seems shell-shocked with that magnitude of a huge event, couldnt keep up with his game-plan, the Floyd camp will think Thurman will be exposed in his first big fight, besides if they want to defend two titles, then be against someone who weights around 147-150lbs.
Mayweather vs Thurman with Maidana in the undercard.
Nope, not with falling PPV numbers and quite possibly working w/o GBP.
Add in he's running out of time to promote a fight and Thurman is still an unknown to the casual fanbase.... yea...it's the Maidana rematch
UNless he lets go of the 9/13 date and goes to NYC for cotto.

Outside of super hardcore fight fans, nobody even knows who the f**k Keith is. Canelo is one of the bigger names in the sport currently and has an entire country behind him. The Maidana stock was as high as it was going to get after his demolition of Broner. Khan was considered for his across the pond fan base. Hell even Guerrero, who wasn't a big name to casuals -- was still a bigger name than Keith is today.
I doubt Floyd'c camp even considers Thurman for two seconds. Maybe down the line as KT continues to build his resume & fan base, but not for this next fight. No way.
correct, it won't be thurman next.
thurman needs to beat at least one, maybe two, out of khan. alexander, guerrero, porter, maidana, garcia, to get a shot at floyd.
Thurman is way too green, so no, it wouldn't surprise anyone.
You know, youth has its advantages too, right? And there's no doubt in my mind that Thurman would demonstrate that in a way Canelo couldn't.
Floyd has three more fights left.
I just can't see him picking Thurman.
At this point I don't think Thurman offers a real threat to Floyd and it would be hard for Floyd to sell the fight.
Give Thurman say - 3 or 4 wins against tougher competition and then he could well give Floyd a lot of problems - but by that time time Floyd will have retired.
Time for Floyd to cash out - I think he will take Garcia, Khan and Cotto / Bhop.
Floyd picks his opponents based on the following;
1) Are they low risk - suit his style and beatable?
2) Are the PPV friendly ($$$) ?
3) Are they available on a Mexican holiday weekend? (just kidding...)
Remember this is Sports Entertainment now for Floyd, not Competitive Prizefighting.

I don't know about that. Maybe I see something in Thurman that others don't. And it seems other fighters are trying to avoid him. I mean why did Maidana back out of the fight? Or why did Guerrero not fight him? Same with Malignaggi. I doubt it's all a coincidence that all of them avoided fighting him.
They definitely see something about Thurman that makes them not want to fight him. After all, Thurman has never failed to impress and at the same time, constantly knocking dudes out.
What I like about Thurman is his determination to take on the best, putting on good matches, and not being afraid to lose. He's got an old school mentality (such a shame that something like that is considered "old school" nowadays when that's something all boxers should have). I respect a boxer like that.
Mayweather would school thurman

If mayweather Trash talks, He can sell the fight. I would love for this to happen.
This is it, he doesn't promote his fights any more. All he does is throw cash around on all access and repeat the same lines 'this is a fighter I cannot overlook' 'he is here for a reason and I will have to bring my A game'
Floyd Mayweather vs. Keith Thurman
Shawn Porter vs. Kell Brook
I think it can sell, plus Thurman I believe has the character to actually help sell the right too. Mayweather will still probably pick a rematch with Marcos Maidana, but who knows. If Mayweather picked Manny Pacquiao, the hype would go nuts.
I don't know why, but for some strange reason I think Thurman would beat Mayweather. I know people here will give me **** for it, but I truly believe that Thurman has a high chance of winning.

Will Mayweather surprise everyone by fighting Pacman in September?
Thiis will be the biggest surprise and gift floyd could give the boxing world.

I don't think there's any wrong with thinking that, especially after seeing Mayweather's fight with Maidana.

I actually want Floyd to fight Thurman next. Keith's name is much bigger than it use to be and he even just headlined a main event.
Plus, Floyd's choice of opponents are pretty small so you want to make sure you at least get the best looking guys out there. Thurman is one of them. Undefeated, so many KOs, impressive skills, and not afraid to let go of his 0.
People are already putting Thurman down before the match but I think Thurman could give him a very tough and competitive match. Floyd isn't getting any younger.
People talk about PPV sales and all that, well, with enough hype, it can work.
Showtime wont allow it. Too risky for a return on thier $32mil guarantee investment. I think they are now truly regretting this deal they made. There's not many opponents that Floyd can face that will bring in 1mil+ ppv buys as they anticipated.
