I thought Ruslan Provodnikov did enough to win especially with the 10-7 first round. Algieri may have won the fight if this were the amateurs with the pity pat punches, but this is professional boxing. Even looking at the faces, compare Algieri's face with Provo's. It was close but Ruslan deserved the win.
The name of the game is boxing and you use every tool you have. The one who hits more shots and gets hit by less shots wins a round as long as he is not knocked down. Other things come in defence, ring generalship etc. If you want to use power as strategy then knock the opponent out or down otherwise you lose the round. A fight is 12 different little fights and the one who wins more of those little fights (called rounds) wins the fight. Sadly many fans just want to see a slugger and you forget this is called boxing. This is the best score we have seen in years.
You guys are talking like Provodnikov landed more shots. He didn't. He just consistently walked forward while Algieri consistently moved backward. Some people never get over the "he's running away!" thing.
This^^^ It's like people think Ruslan was landing when all he did was walking forward, in some instances kept getting his head popping back. Of course HBO says nothing when Algieri lands. Even when Ruslan got Algieri on the ropes, he did a good job smothering his punches or clinching and pivoting out the way. Even in compubox, when so many like to bring up when its in favor of there fighter, they can't Algieri won in every category including POWER PUNCHES.
I thought Provo one no question about it. I had the same card as HBO. With that being said you have to give Algieri props. The dude can box well and more then proved tonight that he has heart.

You are absolutely right. This is professional boxing. In professional boxing, the key to victory is to outbox your opponent, not outslug him! Unlike MMA, twenty jabs trumps five power punches in professional boxing. Also, in professional boxing, fights are not decided on how someone's face looks at the end of the fight.
Based on what you have said, you should stop watching professional boxing and start watching amateur street fights on the internet.
Of course, but that's how it goes. Matthysse learned against Alexander and Judah that he needed KOs to win in the US against home fighters. Best believe Ruslan won't be getting a rematch either.
i don't think it's hometown so much as its ruslan only had one fight with top rank and algeri has many more to come. it would be stupid not to do this from a business stand point and i have heard over and over that boxing is a business so....
2 of the judges gave round 2 to algeri although he was wobbled pretty bad and clearly beaten up. all he had to do to win that fight was survive. mission accomplished.

After a 10-7 first round Algheri would have to win 8 rounds to make it 114-112. Provodnikov clearly won round 2 and 12 so those judges are saying Algheri won every other round. I call BS. Algheri is going to the hospital after the fight. Provodnikov is going out for a dinner of raw moose steak.

I didn't see Algieri win enough rounds to offset the 2 knockdowns. It was a close fight that I knew they would give to Chris being the hometown guy. His family looked shocked as they should have been. I don't think he did enough to beat the champion

fyi, those two judges had algieri winning 8-4, ruslan landed much fewer punches but he has power
if you're going to throw away the ten point must system and just favor the power puncher going into the fight, guys like algieri will never win these types of fights
dude outboxed ruslan, i'd love to see algieri vs matthysse

I had Algieri winning this fight, so did two judges
Dude proved himself tonight, no question, win or lose
I hate it when boxing fans b*tch about punching power when they knew that coming into the fight that Algierie had barely any KO's. now that he outworked and schooled his opponent it's not enough to win? Damage does make an impact on scoring but Provo just did damage in round one. Algierie moved well around the ring, snapped a good jab, and landed when he wanted at will.
Algieri just ran and threw powder puff punches, that's good enough for the home town hero to steal a decision.
this. how else to explain 117-109 from one of boxing's best judges vs 114-112 on the two hometown judges cards?
Coming from an idiotic Pacfart like you, it's a miracle that you gave some rounds to Algeiri. Coming from you, it's no surprise because you almost equate fights to May-Pac. May just "pitty pat" his opponents to victory while Pac KOs his opponents. Sorry to call you an idiot but almost all your posts I've read are idiotic.
Never even heard of ya pal
Its probably cuz I don't pay attention to dudes with red bar
The fight was close but Chris clearly out boxed him.
The damage to his face isn't what it seems to be. Provo landed that huge punch in round 1 which caused instant swelling, the rest of his face didn't look too bad.
I don't think I saw him get hurt any other time, Provo's pure power did send him off balance at times, but he didn't look hurt.
Not here to argue who won but the rest of his face didn't look too bad? lmao!!! His face look like it got ran over. Keep it 100
I had it 115-111 Prov
If this was the amatuers Algeiri would've won no question
Gift hometown decision even tho Algeiri would beat alot of boxers out there
