Simple question,I think he's right there a win a way..What's ya thoughts??
Poll coming soon..
All time great...probably not but he definitely fought all the fighters in his era.
He is a Hall of Famer for sure though.
An ATG, to me, means he'd be rated in the top 100 of all time.
Cotto's not there and I don't think he's there with a win over Canelo. MAYBE if he beats Canelo and then takes Floyd's zero.
I'm as big of a fan of Cotto as there is, but he's just not there with his resume. He's fought everyone, sure. But as hard as it was to hear, Kellerman was right when he said that Martinez was only his 2nd A-Level pelt on his wall.
He can't be an ATG when getting smashed twice at his peak while losing to a non HOFer and two actual ATG's.
He is a great fighter and will make the HOF easy, he is just not an ATG, which is a super elite group.
:lol1: at this double standard.
At least Cotto has beaten an ATG. Grabimir lost his 24th and 40th bouts, one to an above average fighter and the other to an absolutely abject fighter.
So by your definition, Grabimir is not an ATG.
:lol1:
Don't know what your criteria of being a ATG is , but the term of "ATG" gets thrown around so loosely these days.Cotto is in my top 3 current favorites of this time ,but if you break down the resume UNBIASEDLY he is not even close to being "ATG" .HOF-yes , because you got to look at the all around he brings to the table and compare that to his contemporaries of this era that he is being judged on not of all time status.

Who smashed him at his peak? Cotto-Maragarito 1 was a close fight and that was his 1st loss. Anything after that he had already been Boxing for 6-7 years and was arguably past his peak.
I had Cotto as a hof before he even beat Martinez.. So that's why I'm curious to where a win over Young's guns like Alvarez or Lara would do for him.. I really think it makes him take the next step to atg status..
Some of you need to get off your high horse, Marquez is an atg.. He has some L's as well.. Norwood John, give Cotton some credit guys..
Marquez has actually beaten great fighters. Cotto has never done that.

I think Canelo will win dramaticly vs Lara and set up a huge Puerto Rico vs Mexico showdown. If he wins, idk if Cotto can be an ATG but it would just enhance his legacy.
To answer your question, no. The reason being that he's by essence the lineal champ at middleweight by virtue of beating Martinez. Although he's not by any stretch of the imagination a full-blown middleweight, to beat any junior middleweight after earning the middleweight crown and be proclaimed an ATG would in my opinion diminish the coveted ATG status.
His resume is unimpressive for atg material. His two greatest wins are against mosely and Martinez. Besides that, there's nothing atg about his resume. And neither of those guys will make it so.
Plus... Beating canelo doesn't mean anything right now because canelo is unproven. So is laura.

Hell rank as a great fighter, ATG ? Don't
Think so. Hell need to beat Mayweather for that , should've beat Pacquiao, and should've won the first fight against Margarito. Had he done those , then maybe you have a decent case. He is HOF though.
Should've beat pacquiao? I'm not following that statement at all. However, even if he does beat mayweather I wouldn't consider him an atg. As great as maywether still is, he definately has lost at least a step.

He lost to a non-HoF out of his prime - nearly every fighter in history had done so - big deal. You win some, you lose some
I Voted yes. He probably makes it right now. His career is better than some fighters of the past that are considered all time greats. He is not an obvious all time great like Trinidad but if someone studies his career they will probably give him all time great status. He has some very good wins and very few loses. All of his 4 losses were to excellent fighters in or near there prime an he avenged one of his losses.
