Not much to really take from sparring but I think it gives me a bit of hope that Gamboa wont be chasing constantly, he will need to tighten that guard up a bit though lets see if he can hurt Crawford...
If Gambao can beat TC and Vazquez same year surely he might just be creeping onto top 10 P4P list.
Last time I saw that kind of thinking things didn't turn out too well. lol
Anyway, I agree. I don't know how long ago that footage was shot, but I don't like how slow and flat-footed Yuri looked.
haha yeah but gamboa aint a one legged duck though, he seems to be fully fit. plus crawford aint no cotto
Agreed to all. Gamboa needs to drop his dad and get with a real, world-class trainer. And if he's got any of it left in him at all, Yuri needs to summon the old "Ciclon." It's his best chance...and nobody wants to see Gamboa "the boxer" anyways....
Gamboa needs to take boxing serious, hiring his father as the head trainer was his worst move. Hist father is trying to make Gamboa into something he isn't, Gamboa isn't a traditional cuban boxer point fighter, he is a monster.
Never remove that monster from him, if you take that away it ruins the fighter, Gamboa cannot be a traditional boxer in a big weight division like 135-140 so he needs to be aggressive and get low to avoid counters.
If you notice in the Solis fight he put on one of his best performances against a 5 foot 11 fighter, he also didn't have his dad in his corner.
Gamboa needs to bring this Beast back, Gamboa makes me angry, he ruined himself, if he had discipline he could have been making 5 million dollar pay days now. Gamboa is easily top 5 p4p EXCITING boxers of the last few years. But his consistency is bad, he came on the scene like a young Tyson, and than he fell off he become gun shy and timid and would only flurry every other round.
Its too late to drop anyone and hook up with someone else. No trainer can fix age.
The guy turns 33 in December. lol Gamboa is inactive and lacking direction. True, Yuri probably won't have a long, successful career, but age isn't a concern just yet.
I guess we'll have to accept that Gamboa will always drop his hands and admire his work after an exchange. I've always said he's a KO waiting to happen but I don't think Crawford, as good as he is, is the man to get the job done.

Will be a tough night for Gamboa, i see him getting outboxed and getting frustrated. Hopefully he can catch Crawford early and knock him out, on the scorecards i give Gamboa not much of a chance. Crawford too rangy, quick and defensive. Still rooting for the Ciclon de guantanamo.
Gamboa needs to get with a coach who is offensive minded, his father is his coach, and he focuses too much on out boxing which doesn't suit Gamboa's short T rex arms.
Gamboa needs too bring the beast out, get in close with a bob and weave style and throw those tornado punches he used to throw.
If he tries to out box Crawford he is screwed and will probably get knocked out for the first time.
I don't favor Gamboa in this fight because of the strategy he needs to go to beast mode and realize he is not like other cuban boxers who rely on stick and move he is a monster like Pacquiao, Duran, Tyson, not a pretty boy boxer.

gamboa is looking too flat footed and slow, for a normally agile fighter thats a sign of ageing but his handspeed and power look good. if he is even 80%, he'll beat crawford

I forgot where i heard this from but from what i remember i think he's with his father because of it's too much money for him to pay for high-end trainers.
I hope that Gamboa's team realizes that Crawford is predominantly a southpaw fighter even though he switches with ease. They probably should have him sparring as much as possible with southpaw's.
Uhhh I'm pretty sure he's orthodox and switches to southpaw.
Man it dont matter if Gamboa fought this year or not....he is open to shots with his poor defense and to do that against Crawford who nobody really knows completely except Garcia and a few other pro boxers (and they all say Crawford is the GOODS) DANGEROUS FIGHT!!!!! I wouldnt be surprised if Gamboa touches the canvas like he always does but feels the aftermath well past a few rounds.
