Let's talk about Sergio's knees and his surgery. First off, lets get into the type of surgery that has been done on his knee. He had an arthroscopic procedure to repair a partially torn meniscus. Arthroscopic surgery isn't even full blown open surgery that is done for patients with severe injuries as it is just a small opening in which a small arthroscopic camera is used for repair. Second, a partially torn meniscus OR even a full blown tear of the meniscus isn't even a hardcore injury. Recovery from the injury doesn't take long as patients can begin rehab within weeks of surgery. In most cases you don't even need surgery for a partially torn meniscus to heal. Sergio elected for surgery for a better recovery.
Torn meniscus' are common injuries in sports and most common in the NBA. Why do I bring this up? Because in the NBA you need your legs to sprint up and down the court at a high level of speed and you need your legs to shoot the ball. There have been numerous NBA stars that have gone through this arthroscopic knee surgery for a torn meniscus like NBA star Chris Paul in 2010. Chris recovered from the surgery to play 80 games the very next season while making all star appearances multiple years since. Another NBA star who had the same surgery was Blake Griffin who suffered a torn meniscus in his knee while at practice for the USA Olympic team. He came back full force and has also made multiple all star teams. These are just two players of many.
Sergio Martinez has stated his knees were fine and had no effect on the outcome of the fight. From round 1 he was trying to box from the outside while circling with no signs of leg weakness. He wasn't limping, nor did he limp the entire fight which would have been a sign of bad legs. It looked as if he was scared of that left hook after being caught and seemed to not know how to deal with it which in turn flushed his game plan down the toilet. If your going to use the age excuse then stick to it but the knee excuse is old news.
Doesn't matter how well they put it back together after blowing that sh*t twice in a row it was never ever going to be the same even if he got to rest them for years. It showed that's all jeez christ people here are either over protective trying to defend cotto's balls or trying to completely discredit cotto not 1 fker in the middle ground aka reality.
Boxing is the ultimate contact sport. I'm sorry but even if Martinez's knees were good enough for running on a tread mill, it doesnt mean they were even close to being good enough for a 12 round championship fight.
I just dont know how you can give Cotto that much credit for beating a man equal to a cripple on fight night.
those symptoms are right after the surgery..........(not after the recovery time) after recovery the leg should be fully stable :lol1:
At least you are laughing on whatever you said ..... my brother still has problems many many years after the "incident". Every case is different and when you take into account that Martinez is now 39+, had 14 months of inactivity, multiple operations, went in the fight wanting a knee brace on both knees and looked the way he did proved that his knees were not the same knees as we saw back in his prime. Not even close!

Your name says it all. Your a joke and I highly doubt anyone besides your fellow trolls will ever take you seriously. This is a boxing website and you don't belong here.
Your an eyebrow shaving joke. Stick to selling papayas and stealing rims, you know nothing about boxing except for your gay lover.
And it almost cost him the fight and he learned from it. He got caught in the 12th round when both fighters were clearly tired and worn. Cotto caught him in the first round while both were fresh. Big difference.
Not really in terms of heart.
Cotto isn't that big of a puncher at middleweight, he didn't even rock Martinez.
Bull****
In the 12th round he went H2H with Chavez who is A HUGE puncher in comparison to Cotto.

""He was never fully recovered from the knee surgery," said DiBella, noting that the injury made it very hard for Martinez to plant his feet. "The knee was OK early in the training camp but it wasn't perfect. But with three weeks left in camp, it got much worse. He probably would have postponed the fight if was in a normal arena. He was damaged goods going in against Murray.""
He had another 2 surgeries during the 14 month period before the Cotto fight. At 40 years old.
Just for reference NBA players play like **** after any sort of serious injury.
The difference is boxers are being punched by another person and dont have benchtime to rest.
The guy was a cripple by the time he was in the ring with Cotto. Get over it nobody with a brain thinks Cotto beat Martinez at even 50%.

Symptons of a "none" serious injury
You may not be able to straighten your knee
The knee can also feel "wobbly" or unstable,
or give way without warning.
especially torn ligaments, you may have increased pain, swelling, a feeling that the knee is unstable, and difficulty walking.
Pretty much saw all of that during the fight.
An example of the knee giving way far too easily would be knockdowns 2 & 3.
Sergio didn't even look dazed like somebody who got knocked half way across the ring should look.

Seriously stop, you guys are just Puerto Rican nut huggers. Nothing you guys say can be taken seriously because you have a built in bias.
Quotes from a forum of people with the same injury and recovered.
"I just tore it a few months ago in bjj and I think I am going to have get the surgery.. Everytime I go back and train and take a shot it like locks/catches and I literally cant move it at all and it hurts alot for about a minute until it resets"
"I've been in the same situation as you. Tore my meniscus playing basketball and didn't require surgery. I came back to playing basketball again 8 months after the injury and my knee swelled up after just one game"
"Did it constantly lock and just jam up when you made certain movements... I know for me its perfectly fine when I do certain things but whenever I grapple and take a shot it locks every single time"

These guys that love looking for excuse will troll on anything.
Please stop with the denial. Please do your self a favor and stop embarrassing yourself.
...and the NEW!
Obviously he's not going to wana go toe to toe after taking that left hook shot. That wouldn't be smart and Sergio is no dummy.

Well..... he is.
And, it doesn't really matter what some retard said at the stare down.
What means the most is how the fighter looks in the fight. It's clear as day Martinez is done. It wasn't a back and forth war like Williams-Martinez where both fighters are letting punches go. Martinez couldn't pull the trigger, he couldn't move his upper body and his legs looked like a baby deer, and he had no punch resistance. He was slow and delicate.

No, not because he lost.
Because of how he looked.
And it wasn't Cotto who made him look that way.
Two different worlds.
Cotto didn't make him look that way? He was purely outclassed with no answer for the left hook. You honestly think he would of had an answer for that hook 2 years ago? He didn't even know how to adjust himself. Having no legs or being a grandpa in the ring doesn't take away the fact of adjustment. Cotto cutting the ring setting up those hooks made Sergio look amateurish, blame the legs/age all you want.

its true, i saw all of this and no he didnt look dazed he looked frustrurated, im thinking because of the knee
It's not that people are saying Martinez was past it, or not the same. It's that they are sayi nh he was basically unable to even walk or defend himself. It's getting ridiculous. Basically Cotto went from being a 2-1 underdog to beating a cripple.
Unfortunately saying Martinez was past prime just doesn't say it. He was past prime in the Murray fight. He was super past prime against cotto.

All I know is Sergio and his team swore up and down the knee was fine and continue to say so after the fight. I'll take their word for it before I listen to anyone on this forum. Was Sergio at the level he was a few years ago? No, but we all knew that beforehand. That doesn't change the fact that Cotto just simply beat him up. He's the better boxer.
:lol1: at Jokeo waiting until Martinez was practically in a wheelchair to fight him, meanwhile Margarito beat him into submission in his prime.

Bro you are on point. Unfortunately you are wasting your time. Martinez, his trainer, his promoter, the hospital he went to after the fight and anyone who actually had anything to do with this fight has said nothing was wrong with his knee. Yet here we are. There is no hope because no matter what these guys don't want to give cotto credit.
