I don't think DiBella ever had plans on feeding Sergio to him. I think he's in the same position today as he was on Friday.
His big money fight is Canelo. He needs to clean out his division, establish himself as THE GUY and wait for Canelo to enter the picture to get that big money fight.
When Canelo moves up, everybody will follow the money.
He has already made it. Big money multi-fight deal with HBO, doing 1m+ viewers and is now by common consent the #1 MW in the world.
On the HBO pay scale he does not get paid that well. I am sure he wants real boxing accomplishments, not some fantasy stuff.
Things could work out well for him yet. Cotto v Canelo is a viable option; if the later wins, a show down with GGG would be the likely option.
Still even under those circumstances which is probably Golovkin's best hope, that is about a year out (maybe 10 or 11 months) from now. I don't know that it is wise for a guy of Golovkin's age to be waiting around on something that may or may not come. Although he might not have much of a choice other than that and staying busy beating up other "top" middleweights.
This whole thing has hosed Golovkin big time, it was a bad day for him when the fight got signed. If he was younger this might be easier to shrug off but dude is already 32 he only has so much time to really make it.

It actually doesnt really affect GGG at all. Based on Saturday night there is no way Dibella would of let Martinez near GGG.
So GGG is really in the same place he always was, the supposed lineal champ is ducking him. So he just has to keep fighting 4 times a year KOing the other fighters in the division so there is no doubt hes the man.
Cotto beating Martinez then fighting nobodies after doesnt make him the champ.
He wouldn't, but HBO has that one fight left and they probably wouldn't approve anybody other than GGG.

Cotto isn't the man at 160.
I grant him, he beat the lineal. (Sounds grand. Like what a Flom0 would say.)
But lets keep it 1 million.
Dude isn't the dude that played the dude disguised as another dude.
Lmfao. Post of the night man.
Rubio agreed to step aside so that Sergio could fight Cotto. Which is a time honored practice when a big money fight is on the table.
That doesn't change a thing about the linearity of the title. Sergio had it and Cotto took it from him.
GGG doesn't automatically become #1 in the division from any of that.
So you accept Cotto's #1 ranking by the WBC. Got it.
Cotto vs GGG, who you got? That's what I thought...
This, pretty much. It's a good day for Golovkin as he is now the #1 MW without having to throw a punch.
Personally, I don't like how people are saying Golovkin has to move up.
I think Cotto will fight and lose to Canelo if he beats (imo) a harder fight in Lara. If that happens you might see GGG vs Cinnabun....Say what you will about Canelo but he'll fight anyone regardless of his promoters wishes.
Cotto was placed #1. Rubio is interim. Now you're defending the WBC in troll attempts. Broker Shoulder Roll can't make a single valid point.

Why is Cotto not the man? He IS the one who beat the MAN. Its up to anybody else in the MW division to prove they are the MAN at this point IMO.
That's stupid as hell, so Cotto who's only fight at 160 is against the cripple martinez, manages to discredit what everybody else has been doing at 160 because he cherry picked martinez at the perfect time.
You probably consider Pacquaiao a legit 154 champion also.

yeah, and no wonder why he didn't fight him before, the martinez of last night dies in the ring with GGG, seriously.
They never had GGG in their plans. Dibella said Cotto first, then Canelo, then MAYBE GGG. :lol1:
Do you seriously believe Cotto is the no.1 MW? Let's ignore that he's the lineal champ for beating Martinez for a second. Ask yourself is he better than GGG? Will he beat GGG if they fight? How about the other MWs?
I think this is one of those rare occasions where the man who beats the man isn't even the man at the division.
