It just hit me, with Canelo growing out of 154 and possibly moving to 160 soon. Wouldn't the winner of Cotto/Martinez have a great incentive to win being that Golden Boy is open to working with other promoters now? If Cotto or Martinez wins I don't see either looking in GGG direction. The biggest money fight would be against Canelo for the WBC 160 strap. Now Canelo definitely has to make it past Lara but with this fight possibly in the balance Lara will have to do what Rigo did to Donaire and completely outclass him. If Lara gets knocked down one time I don't see him winning a decision with such a money making fight in the balance. Of course Showtime and HBO could put a wrinkle in this plan though. Let me know your thoughts.
Canelo would hurt Cotto at 160. I think he beats "Maravilla," too, at this stage in Sergio's career. Like everyone else, I'm looking forward to the fight on Saturday night; but, let's face it, those two cats have seen better days.
Have to agree with this post!!!
Canelo is still young and growing into his natural weight. Plus he seems to be developing some serious power to go with his developing boxing skill.
Actually I think the Floyd loss was a blessing in disguise for Canelo. If he stays dedicated to the sport and continues to develop, he's going to be a force.
Canelo vs Lara will reveal a lot.:boxing:
Don't Martinez and Canelo have obligations to their respective networks? Cotto/Canelo would be easier to make.
Only Martinez does. Although they can put the fight on hbo now that Richard is out of the picture.
Yes. Not only do I think Canelo goes after it, but so does the Martinez-Cotto winner. They're headed towards each other like two freight trains.
I agree with this. They're on a collision course if Canelo wins. The only way they won't fight is if Mayweather offers to fight the winner tomorrow night.
Either of those two would be a lot easier than his upcoming fight.
this right here^^...
lara is more difficult than any of those two, even more than a pac fight...
unless maravilla is back in shape...
Canelo destroys Cotto. Don't ask me where I get this from, I just think Canelo is a fantastic fighter. In his prime obviously, still more to grow. Thought he looked fantastic against Arm-punch Angulo, even Floyd had to give him props
They been trying to make Saul/Miguel for a while now. Cotto was even offered a large amount of money wich he declined at the time.
Like i've stated many times before, if Miguel Angel Cotto defeats Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez there is no other fight to make. No GGG, No Floyd rematch, No Pacquiao rematch. It's going to be Miguel Cotto vs Saul "Canelo" Alvarez at the end of the year.
Canelo whips them both. There's too many miles, battles, and injuries between the two. They're shop worn. Itd just be a good name on Canelos resume. 1st thing is 1st though. He's gotta get by the Cuban.
Canelo vs. Cotto would be a big fight win or lose. Think about it. When was Cotto's last significant win? Even with the losses people still want to see him in big fights. Loyal fanbase.
Canelo beats this older version of Cotto quite easily, not sure about Martinez though. Depends on how he looks this weekend...

I'm sure ppl hope Cotto and Canelo win because that fight would be big money in Vegas for the WBC mw title.
We all know Mayweather would jump at the chance at that belt if Cotto were to win. And realistically if presented with an option he would fight Floyd instead.

Canelo-Martinez would be huge as well.
Lara might spoil the plans though.
