Now before the stans start going all crazy, this thread is more to see the way of thinking.
Martinez has been inactive for a long time. Being inactive for over a year(due to injuries/surgery), he should of lost his spot, although he does have the ring belt. He also isn't in his prime, coming off surgery, almost 40 years old, and did not look great in his last fight.
Cotto on top of that adds a catch weight to it, so should he get full credit, some credit, or not any, and why?
Hell yes...dont forget the millions of people here saying Martinez is waaaay tooo biig . blah blah blah, Cotto fought a bum in Delvin Rodriguez.
Hell even with Martinez's experience, talent...he should not have looked worse than Delvin. and he did due to Cotto. We all said please dont blame it on the knees / age if COtto wins, but they still doing it
come on, cotto won fair and square. sergio accepted the fight and was also confident enough that he predicted that he'll ko'ed cotto in the 9th round.
is it that hard to give credit where the credit is due?
yes and no for me. Cotto stepped up as the little guy and put on a great performance but I wouldn't be so quick to call him the king of 160. Beat one of the top five guys at middleweight (preferable ggg) or even martin murray and I would keep my mouth shut but not many couldn't pull that off against last nights version of Martinez.
Buuuuuuuuummmmppp!!!!! :rofl::rofl:
Thanks for the bump. Please more votes. :)
Dude this his thing, mad props to Cotto, his team and his fans, I did not see that coming.
Me either on part of the domination.
"Martinez was shot" Wait for it....
He was inactive and not prime. That isn't rocket science but I saw the same Martinez as his couple previous fights. Wouldn't of mattered if he was inactive to be honest.
Your probably fuming over the fact that you and the other retards that called him the vacant belt king now have to call him the 4 division champion lineal middleweight king.
His career belts, the majority have been vacant, that's a simple fact. If you read my previous post, I'd say it was legendary but the catch weight took shine out of it. Still something no other Rican boxer has done.
I see that you're here to stay now.
And that's coming from the dude who I called it for not even voting in his own thread. The excuses never run out from that guy it's always something, always.
Why is my vote so important? I've told you this is just part of a larger picture. If you want to talk excuses, I still see you mofos crying about the first Margarito fight. Waaaahhhh waaahhh plaster. I hope this win, seriously makes you guys stfu and talk other boxing related stuff.
Yes of course he gets credit op must me pissed lol.
Why would I be upset? I'd be upset if that was Golovkin though.
Activity has been pretty low
Because people go out on a Saturday night with their girlfriends. People come back after the club and sleep. People don't wake up early on a Sunday if they don't have to work. *facepalm*
Cotto was a huge underdog, alot smaller, and a few years ago was thought of as damaged goods after margs, and manny...
Cotto should get all the credit in the world... but some wont give it to him
Being out landed in double 100-212 @52% connecting rate and in a landslide in rounds was staggering Sergio was down 7 points on my scorecard before mid way through the fight a big deficit to overcome in boxing.
He's still a past prime welterweight fighting the middleweight champ. Sergio was shot to sh*t, but Cotto took a risk that other fighters wouldn't. He gets his credit.
absolutely he did took the fight and he was considered the underdog...
but right now he will be targeted by MW challengers as they know the champ is undersized and they will have size advantage
If Martinez was shot and Cotto hung with him and squeaked by...credit would be hard to give.
If Cotto had any trouble at all, or hadn't displayed a bit of power moving up with him, it'd be easier to detract from him beating an aged champion.
Miguel was so dominant, looking so good, though, that he deserves credit even if we know the context is Sergio was a bit past it.
I say, for me, Cotto gets credit and its who he choses to defend against from here that determines his final chapter for me.
Great job, Miguel!
Thanks for the memories, Sergio!
Here to give full credit to Cotto, he deserved it and proved us, the people who thought Martinez would K.O. him completely wrong. What a masterful performance Cotto put on tonight, fan of both fighters but tonight the best man won. With tonight Cotto made history and carved his name with the greats.

lol
same with bhop man!
fans just never give the credit!! especially the casuals running rampant on nsb on fight week

Sort of went up 3 points, my stance has always been sort of. That said, lets not ignore the fact that Martinez has NEVER faced anyone with the skills of Cotto. Just saying, I don't think we can ignore that. Martinez has been done at the elite level since losing to Murray who is basic at best.
Said it for months and no one listened. It's being grossly ignored now as well.
