It's got to be someone who can deal with both Showtime and HBO, not someone who throws temper tantrums when he doesn't get his way. And someone who can work with all promoters. Fanboys always brag about GBP's stacked stable, but where the hell are they? Why are they not fighting? Most of them are now averaging one fight a year. Solution is to negotiate some of them with HBO. Showtime can't handle all of them, not to mention its limited budget.
Anyone got any ideas
Didn't see anybody really talking about any possible names?
there are replacements we would never have heard of, countless accountants and lawyers. it wont be that hard but schaefer did have a nack for boxing, i gota give him that, he seemed to understand what made a marketable fight.
Any CEO with their usual huge dose of Narcissism can fill his boots with some training.
Richard knew nothing of the boxing world when he came into it. Oscar taught him the ropes.
Golden Boy's success is much more about Oscar De La Hoya's name than anything Richard Shaefer was able to do on his own. He was able to build promotional relationships because people wanted to be associated with Oscar. Golden Boy will find another Shaefer, they are a dime a dozen. Nothing Richard Shaefer brings is worth a 10th of what Oscar's involvement means to the company.
Hopefully they get someone whose got a strong background in the sport.
IMO the key isn't who replaces schaeffer-its who ODH will get as a matchmaker. I agree with the posts that you can find guys who can run a multi million dollar company.
WHat any great promotional outfit needs are the matchmakers who understand how to build a young fighter and what fights are right at the right times.
It will be someone we have never heard of.. CEOs are hired/fired a lot in business.. It will probably be an unknown to us boxing fans as the new CEO May come from a different field.. Will be interesting to see who they select..
But to think Schafer is impossible to replace or at least very hard to replace, isn't accurate.. Their will be tons of candidates, and should take no time at all to find a replacement if shchafer leaves
