I'm curious, the guy has done great things at 175 and won 3 of his last 4 fights by KO and has looked dominant in every outing. Even against Fonfara, he came up against a game, young fighter with decent pop and almost boxed him into a shut out, with 2 KD and constantly hurting his opponent in almost every round. Stevenson showed maturity and a new moveset, a sharp counter right hook and sweet upper cuts.
Stevenson is one of the best fighters on the planet and is in line to face Hopkins, so why the hate?
I actually used to like Stevenson until he completely shamelessly ducked Kovalev. It was so obvious during the Tony Bellew interview, too scared to even say Kovalevs name.
Stevenson has a puncher's chance against Hopkins but that's it. With his questionable stamina, I think he wears out and loses a decision
Hopkins' style wears opponents out
it's because of the blatant way he ducked kovalev.
It's not really a duck if you go onto fight a unified champion, in fact, Hops is ranked higher by some than Kovalev.
Strictly from a boxing perspective I think he's one dimensional and a very vulnerable champion.
I don't dislike him. If anything I'm glad to see a Kronk fighter still succeeding.
How is he one dimensional? The guy has good handspeed for a big ma, added power, has added a sweet counter right hook to his arsenal and moves well. He's hardly Ali but the guy is damn skilled.
I give a lot of credit for both fighters last night for giving us fans a good fight. Stevenson had Fanfara hurt throughout the fight but Fanfara was game and dropped Stevenson and Stevenson showed heart and got back and won the fight.
Agreed, both guys gave us a show, underrated gem that fight. Plus ppl talking about Fonfara like he's some bum, the guy has been a good 175 pounder for some time now and is pretty young. Stevenson completed dominated him too till about the 8/9 round.
I don't give them a pass when he spends his time saying he'll fight anyone then agrees to Kovalev and then ducks. I don't think he'll take a bigger split for Hopkins as he would have for Kovalev (iirc the Kovalev fight was almost 70-30 for Stevenson). He was going to make crazy money, especially considering how they were each pulling bigger audiences than Hopkins.
I have a feeling he'll get spanked by Hopkins, but whatever, he already hurt his stock by blatantly ducking Kov. Should have manned up, especially since he considers himself the #1 LHW. No *****ing out, this is the hurting business.
I still believe Stevenson makes notably more money vs Hopkins than Kovalev. The rest of your post can't be argued
Thing about this is he's trying to fight a GOAT and he went with who's gonna pay the most, so he's ducking.......on the other hand Manny flat out said no to Mayweather because he wanted more money and thats not ducking? And no one knows the russian but everyone knows Hopkins. You want him to fight Kovalev he wants to fight an atg I dont see a problem, they are gonna fight sooner or later so I see no problem with him wanting to fight better competition as opposed to a fight with Kovalev. How is he ducking and Manny is not?:boxing:
Lol are you serious about the Manny question? You're talking about what would be the richest fight in the history of the sport and you think he's ducking because he got offered a flat fee? Please, reverse the situation, offer Mayweather the flat fee and see if he "ducks" or not.
As far as Stevenson, I think the ducking talk is more because of how he speaks about Kovalev than his move to Showtime. People thought that he was scared of him (due to his post fight interviews) before he left HBO and then moving to Sho cemented it in some people's mind. Then he started trash talking once the fight couldn't be made
You actually think Stevenson would have made more money vs Kov than Hopkins? No way! Can't argue with you on going back on his word, but I have a tendacy to give fighters a pass when taking on an easier fight for more money

Honestly; even if he wins against Hopkins, it'll end up being "Hopkins' age finally caught up to him."
He would have made more money fighting Kov than B-Hop. Not only that, what kind of a man regrades on his word. He's not worth a damn.

Pacquiao mixed up his attack a lot more as much as he lived by his left hand. I don't think Stevenson can get away with it as you put it, I think he's fortunate enough that Hopkins isn't a couple of years younger and that Kovalev didn't get to him. Look at all the lead left hooks, jabs and straight right hands he ate, he's very much hittable especially up close.
Every fighter is hittable. But his left hand is quick and powerful. He throws it to the head and body. It's hard to duplicate that in sparring. And Kovalev, Hopkins, or whoever he faces is going to have a hard time dealing with that.
