As the mandatory challenger to newly-crowned WBC titleholder Bermane Stiverne, Deontay Wilder said it would take a significant amount of money were he to step aside and allow Stiverne to face RING heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, who has stated his desire for a unification bout.
A 28-year-old 2008 Olympic bronze medalist, Wilder (31-0, 31 knockouts) was ringside at USC's Galen Center in Los Angeles for Saturday's sixth-round technical knockout by Stiverne (24-1-1, 21 KOs) over Arreola for the belt vacated by Vitali Klitschko. Stiverne-Arreola was a rematch of Stiverne's unanimous-decision victory in April of last year.
Coming off a 96-second knockout of Malik Scott in a WBC eliminator bout in March, Wilder is well aware that Wladimir Klitschko (62-3, 52 KOs) has expressed the desire to fight Stiverne, even as Klitschko has been ordered by the IBF to make his next defense against Kubrat Pulev (20-0, 11 KOs).
"Only Wilder can reach an agreement with them. Wilder is the mandatory challenger and the only way to have happen would be for Deontay Wilder to accept that," said Mauricio Sulaiman, president of the WBC. "We are basing everything on the ruling that was made at the WBC convention in Bangkok in October 2013 and we have been consistent with that ruling."
Wilder said he would consider stepping aside but only for a significant chunk of cash.
"I heard the same thing, that Klitschko wants to fight Stiverne. But I am the mandatory challenger, so that's the case as it stands right now," said Wilder, who celebrated his 27th birthday in Austria in November of 2012. At the time, he was the primary sparring partner for Wladimir Klitschko in advance of the unified champion's unanimous decision victory over Mariusz Wach.
"The thing about step-aside money is that I know that many people have taken the easy money and stepped aside and let other people fight. That being said, you know, as far as step-aside money, they would have to really come with something for me to want to step aside. Let's talk about something in the range of $10 million. Other than that, there won't be no stepping aside. That would be the end of that."

:lol1::lol1::lol1:
I guess he takes the shot on Stiverne and the 100K purse instead.
I'm pretty sure Wilder is a semi-retard.
He throws 10 million out there but realistically he'd step aside for 1 million and a guaranteed shot at the winner.
He's never made any real money in boxing but I guess in the interest of negotiation it's always best to start with an exorbitant figure.
I'd like to see wilder v stiverne first and then wlad fighting the winner. If and it's a big if wilder does a demolition job on stiverne I think there'd be a lot of hype for a wlad fight then. That's the kind of thing the heavyweight division needs to get back in the public eye.
yea,,,the best thing for boxing would be for wilder to starch stiverne. at least with wilder he can match wlad in height and reach and it would be a far more exciting fight than wlad/stiverne as stiverne is too short armed and waits to counter punch. that would be a horrible fight to watch as wlad would just pick him aort at long range
Some of you don't want Klitschko to be undisputed champ and that's fine but just admit it instead of making up b*llsh*t excuses like keeping the belt in "America" will make for better fights... Did NBC and Main Events need a belt to make competitive HVW match ups these last few years ? No.
Take the money and fight Pulev
suggestion: why doesnt Wilder take the big money and let stiverne and klitschko beat on each other. and then Wilder take a fight against Pulev who he should be able to beat but i don't think will knock out and ....short elimination because Pulev should still be in the mix. More the bucks for Wilder without much of a downside.
Boxing Fans want more exciting fights, and not more of the same of last 5 years for the Heavyweight division. We know Wlad really wants the WBC, he would fight anyone to get it, so we just want to have the right opponent "out of public perception" holding that belt so Wlad wont have one-sided fight "out of public perception".
How badley do you want Wlad to be undisputed? its okay to be a fanboy. But boxing has fans of the sport too. But this fanboy **** is not a good look It almost seems like your scared for Wlad to fight Wilder. Wlads' a big boy don't be scared for him.
So I guess they changed the rules
I thought if you become champion, you can take one fight before fighting your mandatory
That is the rules lmao...
Wilder doesn't know his **** I mean look at Thurman he is mandatory but he ain't getting his title shot haha who the **** does Wilder think he is?
He isn't bigger than any of the current top 15 heavyweights who'd probably all beat him into a pulp.
In other words, he wants free money and to not get his chin checked by Stiverne, then get a second payday v probably Wladimir. Na...Deontay...get in there and fight, if you are the real deal you can get your unification payday and create hype for a big fight, and Wlad can deal with Pulev in the meantime.
:pat:
The "demand" was made so that he can force a fight with Stiverne, genius. :dunce:
