5 million guarantee if he lost? that's an insult! first of all he would never lose. second of all 5 million is chump change. this is a business fellas.
He isn't the normal broke-ass fighter who came from nothing. His family is set regardless. Dude wants to do it his way, so be it. I want to see the fight, but it's his life, his legacy.
One fight extension.... COME ON!
There were multiple other offers by Top Rank, which always included extensions. The richest one was a $7 million guarantee with a one-fight extension for $10 million if he won and $5 million if he lost. Again, we accepted the fight but not the extension.
Bob then came back and offered us the standalone fight with no extensions for a $2 million guarantee. That was $5 million less from his last offer, which is more than a 70 percent decrease from the original guaranteed purse. There was an upside that didn't kick in until after 375,000 pay-per-view buys.

Dude never wanted the fight
I have a feeling that jr doesn't want to sign the extention because the guaranteed minimum for future fights is low?
BOB might be giving exact #s on the GGG offer but there's a reason jr is turning down the extention....
Haha, I'm close. I'm in Guam right now. It's 8 in the morning and about to work out... but might go enjoy a beer on the beach.
Stop by the G-SPOT. $1 will get you a long way! Or hit up "Don't Tell Momma's"... Either or.
what the ****? 10 if he lost? GGG opponents getting paid to lose lmfao
Not as much as Quillin opponents. I wonder how much they had to pay the doc to stop a Rosado begging to keep fighting
This really doesn't make any sense to me.
First, Chavez has been with Top Rank for years. They have made plenty of money with him. They have received a return on their investment, otherwise they wouldn't be looking to keep him. Chavez has one fight left on his contract. After having a relationship for that long you'd think they would grant his request to be a free agent after he has fulfilled his contract.
They did it for Cotto. Not only did they grant him the free agency, they got him the fight he was pining for...the Margarito rematch as his last fight with Top Rank. He then became a free agent and fought Floyd in his very next fight.
This "investment" garbage is just a regurgitation of what Bob Arum is spewing to make an excuse for trying to f+k over a fighter that's just looking for the best deal he can get.
You don't hear about any other promoters pulling this extension blackmail **** with their fighters, just Top Rank.
You are joking right? You don't hear about it, but they ALL do it if the fighter is profitable. Google "boxer extends contract" to see for yourself. Most of them are silent and kept off the news, but they all do it. Look below for a couple examples.
"This is a winning combination and we're very happy to extend Abner's contract with the Golden Boy team."
"Schaefer told Boxing Scene. ... "We did extend our contract with Amir, finalising a new multi-fight deal which means ..."
Unless you consider me a floydspastic.
The 2.1 Million was Golovkins Flat Purse. Arums 2.1 million offer with PPV upside to Jr. without an extension was very fair. Take a look at Arums's situation here. How much money would you want to risk, if you had 0 insurance and nothing to bank on after the fight?
Each fighter a promoter has signed is an investment. If Bob does not have controlling interest in either fighter, he will work it so there is less risk for him, which is understandable, because he will not recoup any of that potential lost money in the future with that fighter.

I dunno, maybe he makes him money. I think its a bit weird though, because junior looks like a fighter thats likely to lose soon or screw up some way, also, he probably just doesnt want to lose another fighter to golden boy/al haymon.
Yeah if anything Chavez is a short term investment. I mean look on how much he has screwed up already. He would be any promoters nightmare. If I was Arum, I would wave goodbye to jr now and say good luck. Arum and Chavez Jr himself must think Mexican fans are stupid. Trust me Mexicans are in the know, and many of them already know that jr is very limited. The fans Canelo gained, were the ones that jr lost.
Anyone who would offer Jr 47 Million would not be in dollars if they had any sense about them. They would never make back that money. It was probably 47 million, but in Pesos.
The reason I think it was in Pesos is because it originally was posted on a Mexican news source. They quoted 47 million, but they did not specify dollars or anything else.
Now if someone did offer him 47 million dollars, they would have to be out of their mind. That is basically thowing money away and I cannot picture Al Haymon making a deal where he would lose money, and he would with that offer, enless it was over like 20 fights or something LOL
Everyone does make mistakes so who knows, plus there is the added benefit of hurting your biggest rival and if Haymon thinks they are close to the winning moves he could make financial sacrifices short run for longer term profit.
Still I don't see how that deal would work or how they would ever make money, unless like you say it was a seven year deal or something like that.
To me it does not make any sense for Arum wanting to keep him in the first place. Jr. is just not a fighter any promoter would want to depend on with any extended contact. I cannot believe Arum would offer him so much for re-signing. That has me confused really. Jr. is the boxing equiv to a junk bond. LOL

I feel ya. I felt it was ludicrous when I first read the report out of mexico as well. He prolly just can't stand being with top rank because that's a lot of dinero he left on the table to fight 3G
If you listen to arum on that one then you have to listen when there saying al offered chavez 40 million$ deal. It's prolly true cause why would jr turn down the $ proposed in the 3G fight
