Can someone explain to me why Floyd couldn't move and use his footwork against Maidana like on his previous fights? I'm not use to seeing him against the ropes this much in one fight.
Mayweather legs are not gone, if you watch the fight mayweather dominated maidana in the middle of the ring and if you watch it closely, mayweather similar to broner was backing into a straight line without pivoting in this fight. This had nothing to do with aggression but intelligent aggression. Maidana threw lots of feints, changed the tempo and speed of his jab to confuse mayweather and threw that overhand right every time Floyd was in the shoulder roll. Maidana fought a great fight and I gave him 5 rounds but in a rematch if Floyd uses his legs he will dominated el chino the worst 9-3 but this is boxing, anything can happen.
Because Maidana forced him. It's a matter of styles. Canelo and Ghost are tailor made for Floyd. NO ONE IS GOIGN TO OUTBOX FLOYD. But as Maidana, Cotto (a couple of rounds), and Castillo showed: you can outwork him. Khan won't do any of this. Prime Paul Williams would have been fascinating.
When was the last time Floyd didn't do his: "not hurting me" face
So TS is new and is asking a good question. So Floyd can fight in many styles. Most boxers come to the arena with a plan. Floyd's plan was terrible. MM is a pressure fighter so Floyd thought that he was so subpar that he was going to do the old "rope a dope" trick with Maidana.
Did not work. However,....we could also argue that Maidana's pressure forced fFloyd to fight this type of way. I choose the latter.
I don't think so.
Guererro and Canelo are both natural boxers, they aren't pressure fighters. That's Floyd's perfect style, that his ultimate comfort zone.
Mosley, Marquez, Canelo, Guererro, these are styles Floyd will always have a field day with and have the easiest time.
Maidana is always going to have his moments with today's Floyd. Always. He'll always have moments where he's inside and Floyd's back is against the ropes. Floyd might decide not to hang around as much in the rematch and make it a little easier for himself but I guarantee you that Maidana will have his moments in the rematch.
It's the same thing I was telling people before this fight, when people were saying "This is Baldomir all over again" "This is the same style Floyd always fights" "This is another Guererro"
It's not. It's entirely different. Just because all of those fighters are slow of foot doesn't make the style match up the same.
I do think Floyd will look better in the rematch but like I said I guarantee you that he won't pitch a shut out or have an easy night.
Good post. Well said.
I seriously thought Floyd was gonna put a Gatti like performance on Maidana "the moment" I heard the fight signed, sure I thought Maidana had better chances as time went on but he did surprisingly well from the opening bell.
At first it was more of maidana's attack but as the fight went on and Floyd started to see the shots better I think he layed there some to let maidana punch him self out so he could get back to center ring where chino wasn't as busy he started to use his foot work late stepping out after landing uppercuts or hooks and popping the jab to the body to slow him down then stepping to the side or back to land the right hand.
Great post. This is exactly what I saw.

It's not that PBF couldn't use his footwork, it just took him awhile to gauge Maidana's awkward assault(but, once PBF figured it out, he took off and never looked back). Even a prime Andre Ward was made too look bad against an awkward Sakio Bika.
Guerrero and Canelo got boxed silly. Yup Floyds a statue.
Boy you people are going to be crying like hell after the rematch I can already see the threads now. I cant fuccin wait.
"Floyds a coward"
"Why isnt he laying on the ropes"
"Whats wrong with Maidana"
"Floyds running..hes a chicken"
lol oh boy going to be pathetic after the rematch.
You forgot the one that they'll actually run with...Haymon and Schaefer paid Maidana to lose.
If the rematch happens, I guess a lot of people will be surprised when Floyd turns in another Guerrero-like performance. He will show he can use his legs when he wants.
And you know what he fought Cotto right in front of him, I forgot about that. There was just 1 round where decided to box, it was the later rounds. Then after Cotto he went to May Sr. and boxed Guerrero and Canelo's ears off.
I don't think so.

I felt in the Marquez fight Floyd's legs/movement looked amazing. It was actually the talk of the fight, how Floyd could come back after 2 years, move like that, counterpunch a great counterpuncher and a #2 P4P fighter and win 120-108.
So, I guess his legs have been gone since he fought Hatton if we're going by your set of eyes.
It took FMJ awhile to get Ricky off of him too. The crude, awkward guys can make ya fight awkward too.
No he had his legs in that fight clearly.
He didn't need or take breaks in that fight other than the 5th but that was just his standard at the time.
Had his legs in both Marquez and Mosley although there was an obvious decline already by that point it's quite the way further down that slope since then.
Floyd said he was going to stand infront of Ortiz and Cotto aswell.
He even said the exact same "I did it for the fans who pay money for PPV" after the Cotto fight.
In the face off for Ortiz ; "It's not going 12. I'm not taking a step back, and neither is he so it won't go 12"

He has spring in his step in spots but he often needs breaks and that's why he goes back to the ropes.
He didn't have to against Ortiz, Guererro or Canelo because they don't force the action constantly like Maidana. So Floyd can take his breaks in the centre of the ring.
Did he same thing with Cotto when he was putting the pressure on.
They're not completely gone but I don't think they're far off.So, I guess his legs have been gone since he fought Hatton if we're going by your set of eyes.

It's not what it used to be,but, far gone is a pretty strong statement. He moved nicely from 6 rounds onwards.
