I think its a bit of both. He was never as good as he wants people to beleive, and he's getting older.
Maidana was his own cherry pick but lets not forget he wanted to go for Khna first instead. When he saw that would be laughed at given Khans unexcusable performance in his last four fights he went for the more dangerous Maidana, a guy he saw as an unrefined bull. Of course the bull had crossed paths with lions and would have eaten him alive without Health-First gloves.
We all get old man, its just life. Its just too bad Floyd never had the balls to fight some of the best at their prime and really show what he was capable of, or not.
Maybe Floyd ALREADY noticed that his reflex/foot speed slowed down quite a bit during sparring and decided on Maidana. Who knows. Don't tell me the decline is OVERNIGHT.....
His resume/stocking is gonna be judged more realistically now.
