Obviously he's a talented fighter who makes other professionals look terrible on a lot of occasions.
Question is,with him not fighting another great fighter in their prime since Diego/Castillo in about 2003 does he get too much credit for beating lower level fighters or washed up big named guys?
Seriously, Oscar was a shell and gave him a good scrap. Mosely same thing and almost put him down with one shot. Cotto gave him a really competitive fight. Maidana who is a crude middle of the road skill wise guy gave him problems.
He didn't fight Williams,Margarito,Manny, or Prime Cotto because of retirement.
After draining Canelo and pulling that glove crap with Maidana I just really second guess his so called greatness.
I'm not a hater just stating my opinion on Floyd.
Very subjective point that. Considering Calzaghe never beat Hopkins, maybe on paper but not in reality.
Also his resume doesnt so much impress me. A shot Jones, Peter Manfredo, Tocker Pudwell. Lacey turned out to be chuff. Byron Mitchell fights the only one that impressed me.
Apologies for the off topic.
How many world champions did Calzaghe beat. And he did beat Hopkins. Bernard was crawling around on the canvas howling because that was the only thing he could do to stop Joe from giving him a whooping, couldn't live with the pace.
Did Hopkins get a Oscar for that acting he did that night?
Joe dominated the division. Mayweather has never done that
Seriously? Do folks still even mention this guys name in boxing circles? While your at it....there is your most over rated fighter of all time...see whilst Floyd goes close with a rabid Maidana Joe never even dreamed of fighting someone like that and incidently by 37 was snorting coke and talking bollocks on Boxnation
When did Maidana turn into a Duran/Chavez hybrid? Everybody wrote him off prior to this fight, and for good reason: he'd never demonstrated, at any point in his career, that he even belonged at an elite level. He's only two years removed from losing a virtual shutout to Devon Alexander for f*ck sake.
Calzaghe was retired by that age, having just edged Hopkins (a better, more accomplished boxer than anyone Mayweather has ever fought) a year earlier. And when do you ever hear people arguing that Calzaghe was 'TBE' or even the best fighter of his era?
Why even make these threads when you know boxingscene posters hate on Floyd? If people can't notice Floyd's skill set and boxing ability in the ring than they really don't know shlt about boxing.
Do ppl realize how stupid they sound? Like seriously. The guy is 37; just unified titles in 2 divisions and is widely considered the best fighter in the world. At 37. Now make a list of fighters who could claim the same. At 37. I swear u dudes are not boxing fans. Have no sense of history of the sport.
Hopkins just unified against a no name at 50.
His resume takes a shat all over Floyds IMO of course.
There's so many belts out there does it really matter if u hold a few of them? Greatness should be built by beating other great fighters. There's only one other great of his generation and we know that fight will never happen.
Calzaghe got a better resume.
Dominated his division and unified the titles.
Calzaghe beat guys like Kessler and Hopkins

Don't forget on of the most boring all time greats. Every fight is rinse and repeat. More action in one pacquiao round than one whole Floyd fight. Boring.
I wouldn't say he's overrated; Floyd is obviously one of the best fighters in the world BUT he slowed down and looked far from TBE last night.
He went life and death with MARCOS MAIDANA  I still can't get over it.
realest post out of all.
Most if not ALL ATGs have struggled and even been beaten by guys that "on paper" they were supposed to clean out easily. Fact is Floyd has been so good and dominant that a victory where the fight was somewhat competitive is being used to "prove" he is overrated or exposed etc....the standards are insane.
Can't we be pleased to witness the skills of some of these fighters and be pleased that we saw a competitive fight.
IMO Floyd won clearly in a competitive fight somewhat like the Cotto one. The problem is we get so hyped because we aren't used to seeing it that we overrate the impact Maidana was having and the work he was actually doing in terms of landing punches.
Considering some of the views about him posted on here it is very clear that he is vastly over rated.
Lol u mean the views posted by Pacquiao fans? In that case Floyd is a binafide bum that never fights good opponents

Na, he's less overrated in greatness compared to Lennox Lewis, Roy Jones, Bernard Hopkins and others.
He's undefeated due to great opponent choice. The TBE talk is laughable. You can't be TBE if you avoid the best of your generation.
Would George Foreman be TBE if he had ducked ali/Young and just picked opponents that he knew he could beat and gone 50-0 with like 46 knockouts? According to floyd ... yes.

how is he different from Joe Calzaghe??

An extremely well managed fighter, by far the best ever ducker boxing has ever seen.
Very overrated by casual boxing fans
Don't know about all-time but he's definitely one of the most overrated in this generation. He's considered a top tier ATG by his few fanatics even when his resume leaves a lot left to be desired. His most impressive win is what? Possibly Chico? And that was eons ago.
His antics, most specifically the constant ducking, will be consummately brought up when people talk of his legacy, or lack there of, years from now. If there's one thing you probably won't hear about the top tier ATG fighters is their lack of enthusiasm in fighting the best. I personally don't consider him better than RJJ or Bernard in terms of the ATG hierarchy and I don't think either are in most historian's top 20.
He could have tested himself a lot more. He is petrified of being in a true 50-50 fight. Part of top level boxing and taking on the best means the margins are fine, and you will likely lose at some point. He has built up this bandwagon based on a fake personality and being undefeated, and as already said that pulls in casual fans like flies to ****. That's up to him. He's a superb boxer who could have been much more.
