Just rewatched the Malignaggi fight for the first time and there's a couple of things that strike me about Porter.
1) Malignaggi held his own on the inside clinches physically
- that surprised me as Malignaggi really isn't known for being the strongest fighter - especially as he's really a natural 140 pounder. Of course this was just based on the 1½ rounds where he actually had his full faculties with him.
2) Lack of technique
- Porter leaps in on many occasions, without purpose. He swings wildly time after time AFTER Malignaggi was hurt which shows a little lack of composure and something that could hurt him when he moves up against bigger stronger guys.
3) Complaining
- He complained after the first round that Malignaggi punched him behind the head. As the going gets tough, he needs to show up in the big fights. What is he going to do when a Maidana will smash him up everywhere from the hips and upwards?
Of course, some of these points may not apply to him further down the line - and other than the points above, he looks an awesome prospect.

What do you think?
Shawn Porter will demolish Thurman and then everyone will duck him!
I'll give him a ton of credit, it's gonna be an opponent who will at least, at least make him second guess himself when coming in and this will show us how good Porter truly is.
I like Porter, some of what he does is a little crude but he gets the job done.
He is a front foot fighter and knows his strengths.
He will really test most WW's with the 'slick style' because he has some hand speed and real power in both hands.
For me I prefer to watch guys like Porter and Maidana, that's just my preference.
I'd like to see him fight Broner and Khan, either would be sweet.
He'd beat Brook, for sure.
I don't think you're wrong. But before the Alexander fight I didn't think he'd make it this far, Lace. So to me that what he brings to the table with his speed and power has to be more than I thought it was. Maybe some of it is just that he can make welterweight with that speed and power in tact. Maybe he won't even be able to do that for very long and he won't be able to fight at the championship level if he had to fight at 154. I can't see him doing much if he had to face somebody like Andrade at light middle. Either way I'm pretty interested to see what happens with him. He helps make this division interesting anyway. I do pick Thurman over him if that happens though. But if he can hurt Paulie like that he's a dangerous guy for most.

Since when did we call champions prospects???
True - and I agree.
But against a counter-puncher with snap in his punches, he could be punished for that.
He looks like he can absorb a shot pretty well, at least against smaller welters. Thurman or a puncher like Maidana might be a different story.

There were 2 heavy weight champions that leapt when they threw.
Tyson and Frazier.
I hate to compare Porter to these guys it is disrespectful but it's the only 2 that popped into my head when I read that.
Porter however looks a lot clumsier than them with his foot work.
Maybe he can get some tips from Pac.
Didn't Ricky Hatton and Khan already beat Paulie's ass years ago?
americans are going pretty wild for somebody who knocked out khan and our ricky's leftovers
This has nothing to do with Brook or Khan lol. Why do you want to take it there?
As i've said in this thread already, he's an awesome talent. Just pointed out where he's a bit crude - all reasons I think stand to reason.
just raising the stakes :lol1:
:lol1: paulie was holding his own in the clinches.
paulie was getting his ass kicked in the clinches.
can you imagine the noise the brits would be making if porter were one of their own? porter is just some kid who was too small to play high level football. we are all shawn porter.

So bum alert!! Watch how when Porter loses everyone drops him like a bad habit, all these ****ers biting his nuts off pfffff
Porter is what he is. Talented, quick, durable, maybe has a bit of pop and aggressive. Is he special or are their indications that he is special? No. Is he tenacious? Yes. World level? Yes.
he reminds me a bit of bradley, rushes in, wants to make a fight, tough, strong guy with a packed physique for a tiny height. Bradley though has the added benefit of sublime skill, when he decides to use it. Porter ,from what I've seen and I've seen him in ... I dunno, over 10 fights now, has shown glimpses of boxing ability but has won, for the most part, because of how busy he is and how he bullies his opponents.
No X factor here but a good to very good fighter no doubt.
this young american king is goign to beat the f#ck out of khan and brook. he's a great athlete, and they are the afterbirth.

I'm not sold, he did pretty well against Alexander and Malignaggi two fighters with many deficiencies, neither of which could punch, counter well or fight on the inside. Even in how he dismantled both I saw holes in his defense, so I'm not sold, don't understand how everyone else is. When you got a fighter like Porter, one who operates in that kind of a style, isn't it logical to see how well he knows how to pick his spots and isn't he suppose to show that against a good counter puncher with good power?
I agree he looks pretty limited to me & he's very sloppy
Looking like a young shane mosley
That's my sentiments exactly. Fast and powerful with a willingness to get in their and bang. I like.

Hatton laid the blueprint in beating paulie which was a lead left hook. Paulie likes to keep his right hand low which leaves his chin open. Porter must of been watching the hatton/paulie fight because porter was landing left hooks at will.
What I liked about that was how he tagged Paulie with overhand rights from the same position, and after a while Paulie wasn't sure what was coming when Porter dipped his lead shoulder. If you look at Paulie as Porter throws that leaping left hook that did all the damage, he almost looks like Broner did before Maidana dropped him with the same shot. Caught in two minds and wide open because of it.

I think Porter fights how he needs to. He's not as crude as people are going to try to label him.. and having said that.. crude gets the job done just as well as refined more often than not, just depends who the better man is
