I knew that Mikey was asking for a ****load of money to fight gamboa, even though his loyal fans were here saying gamboa outpriced himself and then backpedaled at the end, bla, bla, bla. So I was watching the fight game last night and Dan Rafael said that Mikey Garcia was asking for nearly 2 million dollars to fight gamboa. Are you serious? Who the F R U? Has mikey made even more than 900k his whole career? Hbo kept feeding him b side opponents for good money to build him up and finally ask him to take a fight against a decent opponent who hasn't fought since the 90's but has some skill and the dude back out like a bytch? This reminds me of the Donaire situation, they kept feeding him decent opponents but guys who clearly didn't have a chance against him, then HBO finally says ok man fight this guy rigo. Donaire even though he hesitated, stepped up to the challenge made 1.4 mil and took the risk. Mikey was about to make his 1.4 mil also, while he was nowhere the star donaire was and back out. :kabong: Like Yuri said this isn't the olympics where you train for a few months and know you will face the best in you division. Here if they know that you are a possible threat, they will keep their guy apart from you to make sure that no risks are involved.
Bring on Crawford vs Gamboa in June/July or whenever they said it will take place. Fak It
So Mikey is suing Top Rank. it's over then.
HBO has got to start making deals with GBP and Haymon. Hopefully by taking literally everything with the exception of Pac and GGG (for now....), GBP forces HBO's hands.
Not enough dates on Sho.
Also, no one ducks Gamboa anymore. He nearly got beat by a bum. Please, Mikey just wants money.
Every fighter goes through that though. And if taxes was his issue move the fight to Vegas or Florida
I know that every fighter goes through that, that is why I also generalized.
When you guys say "So and so turned down this much..." do you consider taxes and all those other expenses?
He's a California resident, things just don't work that way. Meaning he'd still have to pay Cali taxes, the fight being in NV/FL would be only be temporary/transitory purposes.
Move the fight to Vegas or FL? He has to leave California for a period 526 consecutive days to become a non-resident for employment purposes. It's called the safe harbor, and it does not apply if you earn more than $200k or if the purposes of this employment move was to avoid Cali state taxes.
Man you guys are idiots let me drop some knowledge on you rookies. HBO pays for the fights to happen they set a budget in this case it was over 2 million for Mikey VS Gamboa and Mikey being the bigger star and actual relevant champion tried to do what Andre ward did when he fought edwin rodriguez, HBO set a purse and it was up to the fighters to negotiate the purse split. That's why andre ward took over a million and punked Edwin cuz he knew he was the star with the belt. Not an irrelevant fighter = Edwin, Gamboa. In this case HBO is trying to keep only money making fights on the roster to compete with showtime. When it came down to negotiations Gamboa wanted 10× what he got paid in his last fight and Mikey barely gets more when he's the champ and the attraction especially in california. So Gamboa did indeed price himself out he wanted more at first then like 10% less than Mikey when Gamboa is going life and death with cab drivers and fisherman in his last two fights. Get off every cubans *** people stop comparing every cuban vs ______ to Rigo vs donaire. There Is only one Rigo you numbskulls
I would just question where that info came from if it came from Arum or Top Rank, there is a pretty big chance they would be looking to trash Mikey, it is what they do when someone sues them or tries to ditch them.
I am sure he asked for a lot though so it wouldn't exactly be lying, more like rounding up or fudging it.
Every fighter goes through that though. And if taxes was his issue move the fight to Vegas or Florida
Is he saying HBO / Showtime must overpay fighters when they fight in California?
Mikey doesn't deserve $2 million, regardless of the location of the fight.
Isn't $2million dollars, $1mill after taxes in Cali? I'm all for Gamboa vs Garcia, it is one of my top 3 most anticipated fights along with Cotto-Martinez. But I have to ask if people are taking into account the total take home pay? Not only after taxes, but also corner fees. When you guys say "So and so turned down this much..." do you consider taxes and all those other expenses?
So I did the calculation and fed withholding is $735k, medicare is $45.2k, Cali is $252.1, SS is $7.2k, SDI is $1k. Garcia takes home $960k, if his purse is actually $2mill. Then subtract manager cut, coach, promoter fees, etc.
Like I said, bring on Garcia-Gamboa, I love the sound of this fight. But when people throw out numbers here as if we live in wonderland with no ridiculous taxes, especially Cali who's the harshest taxer of all 50 states, I gotta question it.
Regardless, if Garcia is being offered $1.4Mill he should take it. I mean that is about $700k right there after taxes and he could possibly beat Gamboa and get even bigger pay days against aging fighters like Pacquiao and Marquez at WW to cash out since he says he doesn't really like boxing, he could just go all out at 147 and cash out.
Every fighter goes through that though. And if taxes was his issue move the fight to Vegas or Florida
Mikey said Gamboa was outpricing himself so his fans believed it and ran with it. Sort of like fl0mos. They run with everything and anything Mayweather says.
And yes, the Salido fight proved Mikey is a hoe.

Yep Mikey gave interviews saying Gamboa was pricing himself out, while he was the one asking for...$2 million!!! He really did everything he could to duck Gamboa.
In 2011, his team said "Mikey is not ready for Gamboa". In 2014: Mikey is still not ready lol
The guy doesn't want tough fights.

Yeah fact is Garcia priced him self out of the fight. As much as Gamboa was talking you think Garcia would be dying to get in the ring with him. Guess not. A lot of fans disappointed in mikey cause he's the one to blame for that fight not going down, he needs to call the og Fernando Vargas and find out what being a fighter is all about
Yea... Rios still brings in more views than Mikey.
First fight brought in 850k on an undercard
Second fight brought in 1.2M

If that's true then its a total ***** move for him to try and make it appear that it was Gamboa that was pricing himself out.
He's comparing his market value to Rios, Maidana and the other guys in his camp not realizing that he's in a weight division that doesn't command those types of purses.
I saw that last night too. . Someone is definitely in Mikey's ear..that or he's seeing his stablemates Rios and Maidana getting lotto paydays and is getting envious
Well Rios was getting bank before Pac... got like a milli for Alvarado.
1.5 is ridiculous though
if mikey wants that kind of money he's going to need to move up in weight. guys of that size rarely, if ever make that kind of money. who does mikey think he is, anyway? king andre ward?
naseem hamed saw that kind of cheddar if you count for inflation and memory serves right. i don't have time to get barrera and morales' purses. it's easter, and i've got to get to my aunt's! she's cooking potatoes gratin, and god knows what else. sh#t's gonna be good.
Mickey is a bitch, Salido proved that!
By the way WTF is going on with Rigo? Will he ever fight again?
lol yeah man, from what I hear in July in China. After that he becomes a free agent. Wonder if GBP would sign him.
