i think most of the top fighters are on something illegal. drug testing in the sport hardly exists. even when you do go through random blood testing, the tests are still years behind the drugs they use.
hopkins is still an alien. even with the drugs all of these guys are taking, hopkins is older than everybody else.
he's also one of the craftiest boxers ever, which helps.
This is a situation where an apparent atypical situation can actually be explained quite well. Lets take a few ideas people have about boxing and put them together:
a) Boxers have not improved, in fact the modern fighters are lacking in contrast to a golden age of fighters. Lets look at some proof of this contention: People who we might call "throwback fighters" James Toney, Bernard Hopkins, George Foreman, guys who have seemed able to capitalize on a weak division, etc.
b) Boxing is about skills.
c) The conditioning for fighting a 12 round fight is different than a 15 rounder and guys have adapted to fighting fewer rounds.
Hopkins is a highly skilled throwback fighter who can fight 3minutes x 12. Even if it means Hopkins does not fight 3 minutes of every round. Modern guys seem unable to deal with some of the skills of a throwback kind of guy. Guys who see this are often pooh poohed but it is true.
So actually Hopkins makes a lot if sense no alien hypothesis needed.
I'd say at 50 he may be on some Viagra or Cialis...
The dude is a once in a lifetime fighter. I don't care who he beats at this point, at his age it's unreal.
Do people genuinely believe A side meth is a real thing?
Its a bloody methamphetamine, the show up in urine tests for gods sake. Its not a designer sports drug that is impossible to detect it would show up in any blood test!
HGH, blood doping etc are probably the type of doping boxers are doing if they're doing it at all. I am far more suspicious when boxers test positive for Diuretics as they're used as a masking agent for PEDs.
