Andre Ward is the only decent fighter of this current era and he's been the LEAST active of the names mentioned. Was the previous generation That good or is the current generation this bad?
because young fighters are avoided when they seemed to be dangerous..
Today fighters need to build up name first rather than quality wins, unlike before.
Yeah totally agree, great point,,, Fighters dont get the rounds or experience they need when coming up, and then when they fight top level they get exposed...
Wilder is in line for a title shot, yet has never gone 4 rounds, and has never fought anyone that was truly ranked....
Same way with canelo,, he went from having one decent opponent in trout, to the floyd fight... Had they moved him along better and kept him busy for the past 2 years, Canelo would be a much better fighter, and a Sept showdown with floyd this year would have been better for him,, Canelo needed so big fights before taking on floyd....His first ppv should have been cotto, then angulo, ortiz, etc.. Let him slowly build up the level of competition before taking on floyd...
PEDs and lack of good amateur program are producing less talented prospects and young fighters than they did in prior decades, hence why these old school guys are going strong and the guys that came up in the amateurs since 2000 are alittle behind the curve overall... There is still some really solid amateurs turning pro, but nothing like how it use to be in the 70s, 80s, 90s...
Seems to be that the Eastern Europe, Cuba, UK, Russia are still producing top amateurs but i havent seen an olympic prospect with hype actually reach the top level in boxing in awhile,, Cotto was the last dude that had alot of hype early and panned out.. Rigo of course but he is kinda the exception since he fought all his prime years in amateurs..
It's Evolution, Chaps. Take a look at what this Academic has to say on the subject:
There is no difference in the technology gains in man , beast or machine or computers , evolution is a chain reaction that touches everything , EVERYTHING is faster smaller more powerful more economical better in every way because everything is pushed and tuned to its limits with so much scientific knowledge behind it , in Grebs day they didnt have a fridge .
Ive seen how far things have come in my 60 yrs , so best you pull your head out of your butt an wake up to what competition is all about , what sports science is all about , why every record is broken , why athletes are faster more powerful and more efficient , why modern racehorses and greyhounds can beat old time champs by 25 lengths based on time distance and how fast you can run it .
You kids are into too much bullsht , too much emotion , too much hype and not seeing the real world thats around you , its in you face and you cant see it , some idiots say Jack Johnson would beat Ali , well I say they got sht for brains !
I agree but you also have to factor in PED's for boxers performing better at old age than they should. That combined with their experience advanage spells trouble for the young lions.
Agree with this, past time aging fighter experience vs young fighter aggression. Now with ped's experience fighters keep their energy and their skill and experience is just too much for young fighters to overcome.
It's become a real trend over the last decade or so and really shows that today's generation of fighters just isn't up to scratch. The talent just isn't there as much any more. The numbers aren't there, thus it's easier to get to the top, but the amount of talent means that what is around isn't actually that good.
There's always the few great fighters, but overall, there's very few great young guys. Once these guys are gone, there are very few really top looking prospects at all.
It's unfortunate and I think it shows that our sport is in what is surely the biggest talent slump in its long history. It'll come back, and is still getting good numbers, but the talent just isn't moving into boxing anymore.
Guys of this age should be getting beaten by the young fighters if the young guys are up to par. Experience should not prevail over youth, if the youth is strong. The fact that the majority of our P4Pers are well over 30 is a terrible sign for the near future of boxing.
It sucks for us when the guys ruling boxing are generally middle aged men.

Froch is a bum. he's not a top fighter and JMM's skills have declined dramatically.
Well if Froch is a bum, then that would mean Martinez is after the Murray performance!
