I think this could be a tough fight for Juan, since Mike can box a bit and JMM isn't the greatest at applying pressure. He's his best when his opponents apply pressure.
If Alvarado can be patient and not get into a brawl, for at least most of the fight anyway, IMO this could be a tough fight for Juan.
And why is there a CW of 143?
I'd pick Mike if he wasn't so damn slow and if Marquez wasn't so accurate. As much as I want Alvarado to win, I don't see him taking enough rounds over Marquez for that to happen. Juan lost to Bradley and Pac because of their movement and speed. Mike doesn't have that and heart will only get you so far against Marquez.
Jmm is old and up in weight...once he left 135, true jr welters and welters are gonna be tough for him since he is undersized for the divisions plus age is catching up.. Alvarado has decent boxing skills and if he isn't totally shot I think him and jmm is a 50/50 fight..
Jmm last few times out has looked powerful, slow, high skill level, but he needs a guy coming at him like manny did.. Jmm seems to really have a tough time getting off shots from a distant opponent.. I think Alvarado will keep his distance like he did vs rios2 and could be able to outpoint jmm in a close fight
This is a "tuneup" that can go bad if Marquez overlooks Alvarado because Alvarado always comes to fight. He's a brawler that can use his head and make adjustments when needed.
Against Rios and Provodnikov he was forced to move and fight smarter but against Marquez he will be more in his element.
This fight has grown on me and I think Alvarado is more than a live dog.
I'm not picking Alvarado, but this fight is competitive enough for me. He would be the best win on Marquez's resume at welterweight, besides, of course, Manny Pacquiao.
This will be a boring match, Marquez will not initiate to go toe toe, he'll just wait to counter. Mike will be hesitant to throw in fear of getting countered, so I think this fight will be a stinker. If somehow Marquez close the distance he wins. If mike will just jab and shoot straight right all night, he will win by decision.
Yeah I'm aware of that the point I was making was that Marquez at this stage of his career might not have enough left to win another war. I just don't see Alvarado as a good enough "boxer" to pull of a gameplan like the one Bradley was able to execute.
True, I hear what your saying.
I just think if he's right mentally and physically, Mike's size might be best served boxing. JMM was taking flush shots from Pac and we know what still happened.
piss drinker is old
for that reason alone, Alvarado certainly has a good chance
don't think piss drinker has it anymore, physically or mentally
he reached his zenith a yr and a half ago
he has nothing to shoot for now, despite talking up a "5th" title
won't be the least bit surprised if Alvarado wins this
an Alvarado KO would be mildly shocking, but not a points win
But, but, according to Floids followers the fix is in so that we will see the PAcman vs Marquez cinco enquentro.
All those guys ended up getting KO'D.
Mike has been in with 2 big punchers in his last fights, they might of dented his chin. I still says his best chance to hear the final bell is to box.IMO

I think he has a good chance. Marquez is old, he's still a tough guy to beat but he can't do what he used to do. Alvarado will be the biggest and probably hardest hitting fighter Marquez has ever fought.
This. I think they ****ed up taking this fight. They should have gone for the bang, and taken on Garcia or something if not retire. Not point to it, and at a big risk. Obviously he's getting a ****load of money so it's a big risk to him in that sense, but to go out on losing efforts to Bradley then Alvarado after the single biggest win of at least the last decade is a bit ****.
Alvarado has a height and reach advantage so it indeed may be tough on JMM.
JMM hasn't really beat a high ranked contender above 140 (besides PAC). Fedchenko was only a 4th ranked contender or something like that. .
That's basically a champion these days. There's five titles in each division now, probably more, so anyone ranked inside the top 5 these days is championship material by default. :lol1:
Boxing.....:nutkick:
Came in to say something similar to this. Alvarado can win a war against Marquez given his physical advantages and the large age difference. If he tries to box I still see Marquez taking a decision because Alvarado isn't good enough of a boxer to begin with. I don't know that Marquez can win a Diaz/Katsidis type of a fight against a much bigger man this late into his career.

I don't think he he should box on the outside. He's not going to outbox JMM.
JMM had a **** load of trouble against Michael Katsidis fighting head to head up close on the inside. Alvarado beat Mauricio Herrera in very similar fashion that Katsidis gave JMM hell with. He should go that route. Alvarado may have an advantage fighting that way being the bigger guy.

Styles wise, this might not be the most ideal matchup right now for Marquez even though he might've thought so at the moment of choosing the next opponent.
Alvarado doesn't have the speed, reflexes, skills, defense, stamina, or mobility of Bradley. Marquez should have a much easier time hitting Alvarado than he did Bradley. He should also have a much easier time defending. Alvarado doesn't have the counterpunching and feinting that Bradley used to give Marquez trouble. It's true that boxers are not Marquez's strong point. But he was able to give a far superior boxer to Alvarado in Bradley a very close fight. If he could do that, he should be able to beat Alvarado. The only thing Marquez has to watch out for is Alvarado's power.
Tim has short reach so he needed to use his speed and feints to get in. Mike shouldn't have to do that with his reach. It should also give him enough time to react to what JMM does. His stamina could be a problem, hopefully he's training to box the full 12 rounds.
If he fights like he did with Ruslan he's getting KO'd.
