Provodnikov, Kovalev, GGG, and Evgeny Gradovich
How would you rank these Russian/Soviet fighters from best to worst??
How do you rank them in terms of boxing potential? Most people think these are the 4 hottest Russian/Soviet fighters in boxing outside the Klitschko's so I'm curious about what you guys think of them.
I'm not really sure how I would rank them....They all have their strengths and weaknesses.
I only know the first three fighters. GGG is great in my opinion and I think he can beat anyone up to 168 pounds including Ward. I base this not so much on who he has defeated but the way he beats them. Kovalev is my pick for the best 175 pounder but I don't think he is as good as GGG and a fight with Stevenson would be an even fight between monster punchers. Ruslan can punch and take a punch and he is game. If he is not the best at 140 then he is very close to being the best.

ggg
kovalev
provodnikov
gradovich
1. Provodnikov -- Come on guys, he's the only one that's been in with proven fighters! Kind of one dimensional, but he has a PROVEN chin, and an ability to throw with his opposition.
2. GGG -- Has a pretty devastating record. Seems to be real. I'd like to see him skill checked and chin checked.
3. Kovalev -- Another devastating record. I really want to see him chin checked. Sometimes doesn't seem like to be touched. Could use a good skill check from a guy with power.
4. Gradovich -- Honestly, after some looking I only have hazy memories of the guy.
Both GGG and Kovalev have not much in the way of head movement and a tendency to go straight back. It's not like Provodnikov is a star in this area either, but you know he'll eat a brick to throw a brick. Kovalev and GGG might just be too pretty. For the record I like Provo, GGG, and Kovo, but I'm not sold on the latter two yet (but I want to be).
Based on skill level
1. Ggg
2. Kovalev
3. Ruslan
4. Gradovich
Resume
1. Kovolev
2. Ruslan
3. Ggg
4. Gradovich
i think you accidentally mixed up kovalev and ruslan in the resume list SAA.

Golovkin isn't Russian by the way...
But regarding the list...

Ruslan
Ggg
Gradovich
Kovalev
I'm a fan of Ruslan because of his mental make-up. Ggg is probably the most skilled. Kovalev most powerful. Ruslan and gradovich best stamina. All 4 are very strong willed. Gradovich most complete and diverse.
They're not all Russian and I'm not a fan of your Soviet characterisation but I think Kovalev is the best of them, however I've only watched Gradovich twice.
Provodnikov is an exciting fighter but I think he's a little too flat-footed and defensively suspect to be rated as high as the other three.
1. Kovalev
2. Golovkin
3. Gradovich
4. Provodnikov
I think Golovkin is the most popular fighter but also arguably the least proven.
GGG has a Russian father, but he's not Russian.
Yes I edited the title to say "Russian/Soviet" fighters as I know GGG is from Kazakhstan.
Now that I think of it GGG is probably the 2nd most famous person Kazakhstan has ever produced. But even he will never surpass the true number 1 Kazakh :)

I think Golovkin is the most popular fighter but also arguably the least proven. One potential limitation of Golovkin is he doesn't back-up very fast when getting hit, he'll just absorb the shots. He'll probably get away with it at MW (possible exception of Quillin) but at SMW it's a dangerous tactic. When Kovalev gets hit he backs up fast, his footspeed seems better.
Gradovich - only seen him fight a couple of times and haven't been overly impressed. Need to see more of him to form a proper opinion.
Here's his last fight against Billy Dib from the Pacquiao vs Rios undercard.
He looked very good here in my opinion...Much more dominant win against Dib than in their first fight....
Edit: Meh the youtube channel with the full fight got taken down for some stupid copyright infringement...Damn well here are some highlights from the fight....
Provodnikov - decent fighter. Good to watch, but very limited and beatable. Overrated power.
Kovalev - absolute monster. Imo one of the top 3 hardest P4P punchers in the sport atm. Decent boxing skill as well.
GGG - my one my favourites. He cannot be beaten at 160.
