Morales fought Maidana in 2011, 5 months after Maidana had just been soundly beaten by Khan. Morales was a huge underdog in that fight, people were saying he was too old and past his prime to survive Maidana but instead Morales put on a virtuoso performance, outboxing Maidana in many of the rounds.
The fight went to scorecards and Maidana was awarded a Majority Decision - two judges scored the fight for him while another judge had it as a draw. It was a close fight, Maidana definitely had his moments too although at times he looked overwhelmed by an old Morales who was fighting with only one good eye since his other eye was swollen and shut from round 3 onwards. I had that fight as a draw 114-114, 6 rounds a piece. Who do you have winning that one?
haha you pay attention to the detail of his birth date? i didn't mean that in a negative way man, i just find it curious. december 8 is also sinead o'connor's birthday for example, that isn't bad right? (in the 90' she was hot as hell)
My mistake bro.
now imagine this, after the morales fight maidana claims that his style will give floyd troubles and that he wants to fight him, what would you say???
Good point :fing02:
but if you remember i have always argued for Khan's star power to the reason for Floyd fight not his credentials.
I thought the David Diaz-morales fight was a lot closer,, morales had the early kd,, there is a legit case that he win that fight. I was ringside for that fight and thought morales had down enough to pull out a 114-113 fight
Watched the fight again last night; Morales got into the fight starting about round three, but lost what lead he might have had in the final rounds. Maidana went super saiyan up in that *****.
Maidana did hit a lot of air, but he also hit Morales with loads more power shots than Morales hit him with. It was all volume. Morales earned rounds by Maidana slowing a bit and getting countered because he stopped swarming Erik. Those uppercuts and hooks were still powerful from Morales, but Maidana took em like he was on crystal meth.
The right man won in my opinion, we're just inclined to score a little more for Morales because he did so much better than we thought.
When the card aired, I watched all the opening bouts, but turned my stream off and went out after round one of Morales-Maidana. I was not trying to see Eriks faded ass take a beating. Then my phone started blowing up about the fight. Had to come home and download that **** at like 1am. War Morales. :boxing:
Most accurate breakdown of the fight. Morales had some moments, but Maidana finished very strong. Even some of the rounds where Erik was competing weren't always clear, especially upon review afterward.
I remember people online like you, who didn't even want to watch the stream because they thought Erik was going to die or something. The mood was somber like the passing of a friend:lol1:. I had to watch it live...I tried to tell them, this is Erik ****ing MORALES. He always has a trick or two up his sleeve.
It ended up being a feel good fight like u said
First watch I had Morales edging it, but that was with my biased, Morales tinted glasses on.
I rewatched it and had Maidana.
But what an incredible display by Morales.

This is a great fight for the "enhancing losses" thread from a week or two ago. Everyone thought Maidana was going to kill Morales, I was actually depressed about the fight, and he took it to Marcos like the legend he is. Even losing, that's the kind of fight that solidifies greatness.
So if we criticize Maidana for that pathetic performance we are sore for not getting Mayweather?
But when you and other Chino fans find reasons to diss Khan for things like his birth date of all things, i think its safe to assume you are still sore over Khan-Maidana.

STFU already!
God damn we get it, Khan beat Maidana. Still Maidana clearly won the fight against Morales. Hell, just look at NSB right after it happened, there wasn't some outrage just a few people thought Morales won.
It seems to me any Khan fan gets bent out of shape at the mention of Maidana on here. Not only are you all butt hurt that he deservedly got the Mayweather fight over Kham, but also over the fact that Maidana hurt your guy bad.
It's been a long time, but I remember Maidana winning the 'fight' part of the boxing match, and I think I had him up very marginally on points. I had it a 'W' for Maidana, but 'D' wouldn't have shocked me either. Hmm... I'll have to grab that fight again. Much love for Morales though.
So pretty much most of what's been said here.
A past prime Morales, fighting at a higher weight class, fights with one eye from the 2nd round one, and still beat Maidanna, just imagine if he had two eyes to fight with, imagine if he was in his prime, Morales is a great fighter, and one of the last few that really challenged himself.
Its quite comical how a shot Morales with ONE eye. Ill say it again ONE eye for 11 rounds decided to box and made Maidana look like a clue less bar brawler always swinging for the home run. He even hurt Maidana lol.
Point is that anyone who "boxes" Maidana just a bit and doesnt engage much makes him look bad. Kotelnik, Khan, Devon "squeal and punch" Alexander and Morales.
Oh well here comes the "then he had no Robert Garcia doe" excuse Right?
Green k :fing02:
There wasn't even that much controversy after the fight regarding the decision. There were a few posters who disagreed with it but most of the threads were about how Morales was the f*ckin' man for seeing the final bell.
Morales fought a great fight and won some rounds, but I scored it for Maidana, 7-5. Extremely entertaining and close fight but Maidana did enough to win..
another fan of amir that is still sore that he didn't get the fight. close fight, especially since everyone expected him to blast morales easy, but he won

i thought marcos won it...but morales put on one hell of a performance for being past it and fighting way above his best weight.....even in his first fight against danny garcia he still showed a lot..

I had Maidana winning the fight against Morales. And i had Morales winning the fight against Pac. Oh, everyone had morales winning the fight against Pac.
