I'm not one to be on Mayweather ducking people, as I think that is extrememly overstated, however......
What do you think about it? Makes absolutely no sense when Mayweather had fought at a full 154 twice before.
WTF was that all about anyways. Canelo had to have been somewhat drained. He couldn't even make 154 5 months later. And look what Ellerbe has to say.
Canelo's still an undefeated fighter, just ask Ellerbe and Mayweather.
"He was a dead man walking when he went into the ring," Ellerbe said. "The casual fan doesn't know what difference one or two pounds can make when a fighter is already down to weight. Fighters know."
Mayweather contradicting himself is nothing new.
He said he'd fight Alexander and then fought Guerrero.
He made that pool, that Khan apparently won then signed to fight Maidana etc. etc.
His team took advantage of it, small things can make a difference.
With all this said, in my opinion the catchweight made senso also for Canelo's team. Even if their fighter lost, for whatever reason, the catch weight would justify the loss, and keep their fighter marketable.
If he won at a catchweight, it'd have been a even bigger win for him . it was a win/win situation for Alvarez.
If you really believe that the WBA was gonna strip Floyd, then I have an Ocean view beach house in Nebraska I'm selling.
Why wouldnt they if hes too small to defend it as his fans here claim? Whats better, a normal sanctioning fee or none at all?
Why is he still sitting on that belt thats too big for him, 2 years running?
Why hold on to it if no intention to defend, and if you need a freaking cw to unify? They did want to strip him though, he was not happy about it and claimed he was gonna defend

Nice, Im putting this in the OP.
You can also add this Floyd quote leading up to the Cotto fight:
"I would never want to put a fighter in a position where he's not comfortable. I want a guy when he's at his best. If he's at his best at 154 and he's strong and he's solid, then that's the fight we're fighting at. I walk around at 150, but at the end of the day - skills pay the bills.... Give me the guys where they are comfortable at their weight so there are no excuses"
"De La Hoya - Pacquiao fights him at a catchweight. Cotto - he fights him at a catchweight. When I fought De La Hoya I said 'give him to me at 154'. With Cotto - 'give him to me at 154'. Give me the guys where they are comfortable with their weight so there are no excuses"
Because he was a champ after beating Cotto, and don't be stupid, no sanctioning body is gonna strip Floyd of anything.
They make millions every time he steps in the ring with their belts.

Floyd should get criticized more then Pac because he constantly contradicts himself.
But i think some people are happy the CW happened cause its a easy reason to hate on him. In all access after Ellerbe called Canelos manger an idiot for suggesting the CW, canelos team got mad and said that Elerbe was lying and that they wanted the CW. But they also said Ellerbe was the idiot because Floyd has to come up 5lbs suggesting he not a natural JMW so they felt they had the bigger advantage. I wonder if Canelo won and his fans would have called FM fans a bunch of crybabies if FM fans brought up that Canelo was bigger than him.
Why was he holding on to the sww belt then? He was even complaining they threatened to strip him, when he says he intended to defend it. Sure enough they didnt strip him

Didn't Floyd want the fight at 147 first??And if both fighters had agreed to that, he wouldn't have thrown his fans under the bus with Catcheweights but everyone knows Canelo is not a Welterweight and Floyd asking for it is absurd.

Newsflash - this had nothing to do with Canelo signing or someone needing a gun to get him to sign, it is about Floyd demanding a catchweight to begin with.

Ellerbe said that CW's give fighters problems (not exact quote) at the time of the Manny cotto fight in 2009. My guess is you and others disagreed with that. If you disagreed with it then, you should do same for all cw's IMO.
Then floyd said he thought cotto was undefated because The manny fight was at a CW and Margs used plaster. He also said he wanted his opponents comfortable. Clearly he was trying to hype the Cotto fight. If you wont acknowledge that fine.
Floyd deserves every bit of criticism for being a hypocrite on CW's. But his doing it is no worse than any other fighter doing it and to try and make his worse because it was a unification is silly.
I get it now, you are having fun at floyd and his fans exspense and being hyper critical of floyd.
Perhaps you haven't been here long enough to know. For some Floyd fans, their only job that they had was to come here every day and state how bad CWs were and how could Manny do a CW when he was moving up to fight for a title at WW. They had SIGs with "Manny is a CW King" .... "Can only win with CW" and so on.
It got worse when Floyd agreed with them. A loss by way of a CW is NOT A LOSS .... "Cotto is undefeated"
So when Floyd fought Canelo, it was just crazy how he and his fans flipped on a dime. Floyd fans removed everything they used to have SIGed on "CWs are evil". Some of those Floyd posters rarely come back due to their witch-hunt that backfired on them. Some pretend that they never were part of that.
News Flash, Floyd is hypocrite, get over it.
Pacquiao didn't sign a fight with Floyd, he stood his ground.
Danny Garcia didn't fight Floyd yet, when he could have easily said he wanted to fight after the Lucas bout.
This is Canelo's team thinking that Floyd lost a step and that Canelo was ready to fight after escaping Trout.
Stop defending this dude and all their miscalculations, ya look real dumb thinking this dude had a chance against Floyd, he phukking escaped Austin Trout ffs.
You are blaming Canelo. Previously they blamed Manny, ..... sorry but there is always one common denominator ..... Floyd Mayweather!!!
News Flash, Floyd is hypocrite, get over it.

You are making infinitely small points to try and make what one guy did worse than the others when its all the same. I get what you are doing now.
Hes probably the only 2x, reigning champ EVER to request a cw in the same division. And hes still holding on to the belt hes too small to wear almost 2 years later
Floyd didn't need a gun to make himself look like a hypocrite. Floyd said: " I DONT DO CATCHWEIGHTS! I AM NOT THAT TYPE OF GUY! AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED, COTTO IS STILL UNDEFEATED!". And he may not have gone to jail over that but he boxed himself in with his hypocrisy and his little moral rant which backfired on him.
News Flash, Floyd is hypocrite, get over it.
If Canelo didn't sign (agree)? Canelo = Manny Pacquiao = No Fight
So in actuality, going by history, it was like holding a gun to Canelo's head. Canelo and his team said the same. They felt like if they hadn't agreed, then there would be no fight.
Pacquiao didn't sign a fight with Floyd, he stood his ground.

WTF was that all about anyways.
It was to weaken him remember health comes first and he couldn't take punches from a strong Canelo it might effect his health
It's a truly undefendable act, yet people defend. It's funny as hell.
I'm mean look. Canelo couldn't even make 154 5 months later. I kinda think he paid 100k to say, hey look everyone. Floyd drained me.
