I watched both Kirkland fights with Angulo and Tapia. And what transpired on my tv screen was two of the worst beatings I had seen in recent memory :lol1:. Oh, Angulo and Tapia had their early moments, mostly in the first round, but after that it was one way traffic. Its funny, aftef the first round, into the beatdown portion of those two fights, Lampley would overreact when Angulo and Tapia would get some offense in. HE FIRES BACK! They threw a punch, but do you not see that these guys are getting their skull beat in :lol1:?
It was one of the rare times where I had legitimate concerns about the fighters health after the fight. After the first half of the first round, Tapia had this hunched over stance, with this lifeless look on his face as he was just getting POUNDED. Angulo was in a druken state after the first. I was concerned about Darchinyan after he got KO by Donaire, because of his reaction to the punch, and the Paul Williams KO to Sergio. But Tapia and Angulo, man, get these guys to a hospital.
Angulo returned, but he's not nearly the beast he was before Kirkland destroyed him. I'm really having doubts about Tapia recovering, at least mentaly, from his beatdown.
So I wonder, what promoter is gonna risk their cash cow by putting them in the ring with :lol1:? De La Hoya isnt crazy. He can make a billion off Canelo for years to come. Why risk Canelo taking a frightfull clubbing from Kirkland?
Journeyman will get into the ring with a lion, and he'll get those opponents, like Vera. Or someone else who cant get anyone into the ring, such as Molina. But he will have trouble getting a valuable star or prospect in there.
The only way I can see it...is if there's another split with Ann Wolfe. Kirkland isn't the same without her, and he might then be worth the risk. But he's an absolute animal with Ann in that corner :). It will be very difficult to drag a big opponent in the ring against them.
kirklands been a beast even way before those fights. check out his war with joel julio who was a HUGE puncher
kirkland would probably beat canelo. that dude is scary. him vs ggg would be insane but i fear for somebodys life
Nah, Canelo that fought Angulo was a beast. I say Canelo dispatches Kirkland in five rounds or maybe the 6th. Kirkland gets rocked easily and Canelo can finish the job with ease. Maybe Kirkland should fight Lara first.
Kirkland is one of the most overrated fighters in recent times. Ishida destroyed him, Angulo was on his way to stopping him until his dumb ass punched himself out, and Molina was winning nearly every round until he got screwed by the ref. A devastating loss and two miraculous victories don't make you a beast.

he got knocked out in the first round by ishida
This pretty much did it. Even if it was three years ago you just can't market a black fighter as a star that got stopped by a Japanese fighter that isn't even a hard puncher. Kirkland's best chance at getting back in there is maybe fighting and beating Lara and then going against Golovkin at 160 and try to win even though that seems like a nearly impossible mountain to climb but that's what it takes at this point for Kirkland.
Its been well established that he had split with Ann Wolfe, and wasn't in shape physically or mentaly for that Ishida fight. Still not an excuse...but the fact is, excluding the Molina fight in which he was probably losing when he got the DQ win, he's undefeated with an Ann Wolfe training camp.
Theres a good chance Canelo beats Kirkland-but at what cost :)?
They fear his shaky legs, and putting all that time and effort into a guy who's chin is suspect won't run well, also the fact that his fan base isn't exactly huge either.
I dont know why Kirkland is no PPV star yet. Hes american, a real warrior and spectacular. They should push him more. I hope he fights again soon. I think he could beat Alvarez!
