Stop, just stop.
Canelo sat there petrified after he was down ten rounds and had nothing left in the tank. He was not throwing punches.
There was no "trade" there was no "exchange."
I'm embarrassed for you guys for being pleased with this.
That is a pathetic assessment of "siting in the pocket and trading."
I will destroy any example of anything in the last 6-8 years of Mayweather "sitting in the pocket and trading."
He may have sat in the pocket and traded 15 years ago.
I'm just letting you guys know, this is not up for debate...
I've done my fair share of sparring. And when the adrenaline is running shots have a minimal effect. That's my assessment. People feel have different thresholds for pain. I guess Floyd's threshold is small, that's what I take from your statement.
What I take from your statement is utter BS. If there were any truth to it, we'd be talking about you as a protagonist of the sport, not a boil on the backside of it.
I've never had the idea that Mayweather trades in the pocket. He counters, i.e makes his opponent miss BEFORE punching. Someone on forum has a sig of him doing it to Canelo as he has done to others (it's like explaining numbers to a toddler).
What's funny about this is now everyone is recanting their statement that Floyd "sits in the pocket and trades" when I've seen it typed out by numerous people.
Now no one wants to stand by that felonious statement.
Now it's "he doesn't have to, that's not the name of the game, etc."
A lot of fans don't know **** about boxing and want fighters to stand/stay in the pocket. Staying in the pocket is exactly what boxers are taught not to do. You're supposed to go in and out of the pocket but not stay in the pocket. If you're going to stay in the pocket you need to keep punching but if you're trying to avoid punishment it's a known fact that you can't stay in the pocket.
I'm not saying your supposed to stay in the pocket, I'm saying I'm sick of heading Floyd "sits in the pocket and trades" with anyone. I can't bare watching people type that anymore.
I get the sentiment, but the analogy is still stupid. Basketball isn't a sport where one mistake not only can cost you a match, it can cost you your health, your future or in extreme circumstances, your life. I suggest the OP do a little sparring with even an amateur and see they think looking to get hit is a wise thing to do.

Pacquiao doesn't "sit in the pocket" either. Very few fighters do. Floyd is not James Toney and no one is saying he is. Why are you all so obsessed with Floyd
It's a boxing site...we're obsessive about our opinions about boxing, boxers, etc.
I'm glad to see my baby (thread) had been keeping everyone occupied.
Keep up with the horrible examples and excuses for Mayweather.
true, the concept of boxing is to hit and not get hit but when u're head lining a ppv, u have to come thru with it and make it worth wild. im not saying u have to be careless but u have to make it somewhat exciting, take this for example, in basketball the game is to make the most basket the easiest way possible, but yet u still have guys doing 360 dunks, behind the back dunks, etc. imagine if MJ never did any of those fancy moves because he didnt wanna risk missing the basket so instead he goes and does an easy lay up every time. imagine how boring that would be.

He sat in the pocket and traded with Cotto. You can deny it if you want, but he did.
Corley and Judah are other recent examples. Chavez, Hernandez, Ndou of his more well known fights are others.
This is basically a troll thread really.
Go watch some of his earlier fights and more recent - Hatton & Mosley. He doesn't stand in the pocket and slug it out but he stands there and counters you.
So much criticism falls on Mayweather because he is actually that damn good. It's his opponents shortcomings for not making it more competitive.
'cowardly', COME ON! this is boxing hit and not get hit is the objective.

Still butthurt that Con didn't land the fight I see... So what if Mayweather doesn't stay and trade, thats not his game! Just like Khan doesn't use his head and box his way out of trouble when he gets cracked in the head, he runs for the next 4 rounds like a baby deer thats just learned how to use his legs for the first time!!
Who said he trades? He sits and defends and counters in the pocket. Trading implies a hit for a hit. But im hoping he does some of that stationary defense stuff.. it will give chino a chance to find him with an awkward shot.
Those that say he doesn't really stand and trade are upset that Floyd has come this far in the sport without looking like he's been in a head on collision with a freight train.
Yall say what you want !
Everyone says floyd runs however he stands long enough to hit whoever he is fighting. It ain't his fault if he is. Quicker than his opponents .
If your involved in anything in life you should always play to your strengths .
Plain and common sense makes no sense when it's Floyd.
"But if Floyd could only stand there with his arms behind his back for just one minute without moving, Maidan will surely KHTFO.
The we can sing and dance to Pharrell's "Happy" and be massively happy.

Does he have to sit and trade?
Floyd is a boxer not a slugger.
He is fluid in his movement so why should he sit in one place when he can move around?
If you know anything about boxing you should know by now that every boxer has his own style. A style develops because of natural attributes a fighter has like a lean body, slim or stocky built, long/short arms, heavy hands or feather fists etc. The stocky ones usually are not as mobile and they need to slug it out. If you notice Mayweather's body type he's very symmetrical and has a very long reach. That way he can beat opponents using what nature has given him. It's not that he can't slug.He has hardly been pushed into second gear. Don't be fooled, he can adapt to any style because he's the most educated boxer alive.fI need be he will sit and trade but only if there's a need.

Mayweather trades... when the opponent is not throwing back lol.
Floyd fights scared and it is what it is. That's his style.
You mean like the way GG is scared of Ward?
He got where he is with this style. I wouldn't expect him to change. Not for the fans, not for the sport, not for anything.
He's got his "0" and his $$$. I'm sure that's all he's concerned about.

Mayweather does sit in the pocket. But he counters, he doesn't trade. When he was younger he did. His fights vs Corley and Augustus are the best examples of that.
