Andre Ward is a great fighter, but his low activity level in the sport and his weak fan base, are hurting his chances of really making an impact. A loss, A knock out or even knock down would be terrible for the guy.Does he really deserve #2 P4P with his activity? Will Andre Ward become a star? Thoughts...
We are talking major star not accomplished fighter, we get it he did that and still no one seems to care and he has little to no fanbase.
No one cares about 168+. No one but Wladimir is making $10mill+ up there.
A whole lot is being made of nothing. Ward not having PPV power or a huge fanbase is not extraordinary. Roy Jones Jr of all people, the greatest fighter I have seen, was on PPV very few times and never drew in a whole lot anyway. He finally drew in decent numbers in 2008 against Tito, both shot and past prime.
I repeat, Ward's lack of star power is being blown way, way out of proportion. And I expect a bit more knowledge from the oldies here about the historical lack of star power in general at 168+.

Andre Ward is not willing to take the risk to be a star.He had a big money fight with Bute available to him but he punked out.(i`m sure he was kicking himself after Froch ko`ed Bute in 4-5 rounds because that was when everybody including Ward realized that Bute would have been easy work for Ward).Ward had a chance to Fight Adonis Stevenson but he didn't take it,and he doesn't want a piece of Kovalev.
He`s waiting around for easy big paydays like Chavez Junior and GGG,but Chavez may lose to GGG which would derail Chavez as a big payday, and GGG may never fight Ward.
Hope he keeps fighting, though he has probably already secured his family's ongoing comfort.
If he doesn't, I'll be disappointed. Especially as a Bay Area boy.
Ward would have beaten the hell out of johnson.. Maybe a prime johnson of the early 2000s would fair better but not the super 6 version
glen johnson could hop in a time machine and would still lose every round against andre ward.
He's already talking retirement. Super 6 is his legacy.
I'm thinking one or two more fights and its a wrap.
lol.... andre ward is not retiring in one or two fights.
Yes you are overrating your buddy.
Sorry, but boxing is a what have you done for me lately sport...The top 25 best fighters of all time did things like challenge themselves by moving up in weightclass, box instead of holding/headbutting through matches, and fight in more than 6 or 7 different states in his entire pro career (and a couple of vacation spots in the Caribbean). They don't use a so-so tournament win (good for him as an underdog) as their only claim to greatness.
Honestly he's lucky Froch beat Glen Johnson.....not saying Glen would have beat Ward on the cards, but Johnson's workrate would have exposed Ward IMO.

easy!
1. Andre Ward is american
2. He's an olympic gold medalist
3. Won the super six!
4. weak fan base, uh oh
5. inactive, oh no!
6. boring style, damn!
7. havent fought yet in 175
8. most of his fight was held in his hometown
so NO, this guy wont be a STAR but will be recognized as one of the best of his era
Andre Ward is an Olympic Gold Medalist, dominated the super six has an amateur record of 115-5. As a matter fact he is the last Olympian boxer to win a Gold Medal. I believe that he is in the wrong era, because his skills in boxing are just to superior. He's like a combination of Roy Jones and Bernard Hopkins combined together. Also he's versatile and able to switch stances with ease. If he was to retire right now I would put him in the Top 25 best fighters of all time. I may be overrating him but this dude is just to skilled for a 30 year old fighter, its incredible. There is a reason why Bernard won't fight him, and Roy Jones said it himself that he would give a lot trouble if he was fighting during his time. lmao Boxing is too easy for Ward he should retire and live his life peacefully. If not I think he is capable of making history and breaking records maybe Roy Jones, he might just move up to heavyweight and do that, and accomplish that goal. Winning that heavyweight title! Yes a 200 lbs skilled Andre Ward can win multiple belts at that weight class.

Camt believe people are questioning his accomplishments.
Dominating and winning that super 6, amd dominating everyone since is an incredible accomplishment.
He never got the respect he deserved for the super 6. That was a ridiculously hard tournament to win.
Hes boring as **** and no one wants to deal with him due to his way of thinking. He feels fighters should make offers to him where he makes more not realizing he only fans in oakland. I'm not sure if he's ever sold out an arena. Just because he's one the super six doesn't mean he's a star you gotta earn that not by just winning but capturing the public eye.
He has potential to become Ring champ one day, as well as beat the likes of Kessler, Froch, Abraham, Bika, Dawson, Rodriguez and hold major titles. Right now he is at Gary Russell level, I see potential in Ward but he hasn't fought anyone and hasn't done anything significant yet in his career. They should do a tournament with the best Super Middleweights, that would force him to fight every one at 168. He'd probably lose but at least we'd see him in with good competition. 30 years old and hasn't done sh-t, the clock is ticking.
It still wouldn't have done it, he is an excellent fighter makes the rest of the top 168lbers look awful like they have no idea what they are doing but by in large people just don't seem to care.
Well that would had helped him alot. Fighting Butre in Canada and Froch in Englad would gotten him 10 Mills atleast and great international exposure. Plus it would put to rest, the notion that he only fights at home.
His style is ugly and dirty, thats why people dont care!
He is going nowhere. He is a great fighter, but he is boring and he has refuse to fight guys outside OAK. He had 2 chances at stardom, fighting a undefeated Bute or a rematch with Froch in Englad but he said no, so it is his fault!
because he can never replicate the provocativeness or insight of max k. That role belongs to max, and max alone. He needs to study the successful methods of boxer-commentators (like Paulie) and try to replicate that.
Ah, of course. :lol1:
