three months a go i stumble this video on youtube :
i was so captivated so i search another video about Sakuraba then it continue to another great MMA/UFC fights. after three months watching it i can say this sport is great. i watch UFC before, i remember watching royce gracie but backthen i was still a teenager and though this sport is boring.
But rightnow the sport is evolving so much, the fighter is so much fitter, the rule is changing so the fight is more exciting, so many young talent coming-up, so many technique to explore. etc....
Just had my first UFC PPV the other day and it was money well spent.
At the gym I go to there was a guy teaching MMA 1 on 1 and I noticed his pupils were getting better and better and he worked them really hard on the pads which is great cardio. I could tell he really knew his stuff and could do it and lived it.
I got talking to him and he said he had noticed me on the heavy bag and said I was a former boxer and said a good boxer has very little chance in a street fight against a good MMA fighter. He said the boxers only real chance is a KO before the MMA fighter closes and the boxer's striking tends to be a lot better than the MMA fighter

thankyou for understanding my point, that exactly what i say. boxing is still my number 1 entertaiment. and i dont think MMA is better, but MMA is still young sport just like boxing in the 30s or 40s there're still more developing in MMA. and trust me the talent pool in MMA is more deep cause it's involve so many martial arts branches.
I've been covering MMA for about a decade now and I do agree, this is an evolving sport which is still trying to find it's feet. There are some exceptionally skilled athletes who are versatile "strikers", basically meaning they can punch/box but they also have tremendous grappling abilities. Guys like GSP come to mind (he'll be back).
The heavyweight division is thriving, Jon Jones is star...it's all so far removed from the early days of red necks punching each other or unknown Asian martial artists being pitted against 200lb line backers.
Boxing is still more beautiful and in my opinion, aesthetically pleasing but MMA is just as, if not more scientific and with the UFC, they have company that can put together the big events without promoter squabbling or financial wranglings which so often derail boxing's biggest fights.
I used to think the same way but not any more. I used to box many years ago but now just train on weights and cardio to keep in shape. At the gym I go to there was a guy teaching MMA 1 on 1 and I noticed his pupils were getting better and better and he worked them really hard on the pads which is great cardio. I could tell he really knew his stuff and could do it and lived it.

He said the boxers only real chance is a KO before the MMA fighter closes and the boxer's striking tends to be a lot better than the MMA fighter. We did some sparing and he did counter moves I have never seen before. He demonstrated to me he was right and I started training with him and have not looked back.
To me boxing is more attractive to look at but with the UFC the best fighters fight the best fighters. You don't get the unblemished records through cherry picking that you get in boxing with hand picked oponents etc. This is the one area where UFC is far better than boxing. It is because of this that I am getting more interested in watching UFC and less so boxing unless it is a real competative fight which is getting more and more rare these days. Dana White talks about this a lot and said the Manny Mayweather situation would never happen in the UFC and he is right.
The flaw with this logic that most people use when making this comparison is that-BOXING and MMA is a SPORT-one with rules. When you are on the street and fighting-the competition is no longer valid-it is anything goes. This is where all goes out the window.
Now in certain situations both sports can offer the best outcome depending on the fighting situation.Of course someone trained in MMA is going to succeed when both guys are wrestling around on the ground, but most fights start on the feet. Boxing at it's best will show you the best way to throw a punch, defend from head or body attacks, counter someone's strike, etc.
Most fans of either sport make the whole statement that "in a street fight....such and such style will win". It depends on what your opponents is going to do,but these 2 martial arts are a sport-not a street fight.
I have a co worker who has a straight best friend
Who was taking BBJ classes and kept getting
Flesh rockets while rolling on the floor with his
Master in front of the whole class a few times
Lmao ,ive heard of a few weird stories.
i make this thread in NSB because i wanna talk it with boxing fans, as i am a boxing fan my self. i only watch MMA for three months and i can say it was good. the two sports has a lot similiarity, is a combat sports, have some fighter with incredible hearts, and i just saw on UFC PPV some kid fighting canadian fighter and win with counter submission in a standing position wrestled him to the mat till the canadian tap-out. it was beautiful move just like Marquez right hand crushed manny jaw.
Muay Thai and freestyle wrestling are combat sports too. But we don't talk about them on Non Stop Boxing either.
What is it that you don't get?

nobody is saying mma is better. topic starter just posted a thread and video on why he likes mma. says nothing avout which sports is better. why does boxing fans get some defensive when it comes to mma?

Haha, back story of this tweet, apparently anyone who retweeted that after zuffa failed to make ANY super fight even though they have everyone signed was blocked by the ufc official twitter. Dirtbags.
UFC is ****ing dog **** man. PRIDE FC was the Bomb! I used to watch MMA around the time of the tail end of the career of the greatest, Fedor Emelianenko. Now that UFC is the monopoly in the sport the standard of MMA is going down, fighters are getting paid less and the whole thing is in decline, deservedly so as it's run by gangsters and scumbags.
You missed the boat man, UFC is going into the ****ter right about now.
This is what's up
no offense but u're being dull right now. saying mma guys striking is sloppy wild and off balance LOL. like we dont get this in boxing too? LOL. i think a lot of mma guys would disagree with u. u think these guys have no skills and is just some bums off the streets? their fighting for an organization for a reason. people dont pay to see regular people fighting on the streets do they? so if the guys in mma and ufc is garbage why do people continue to support and pay for the fights?
I never said they are not skilled. They are probably skilled at wrestling and what they do. I said as a fan of boxing technique i can't enjoy their punching technique.
again when did anyone compare mma to boxing?? so if u can do better than those mma guys why are u on a boxing forum instead of in the ring??
Cause this is nonstop boxing forum. Either the thread is related to boxing or it should be in the trash.
Cause im an average amateur, nothing special in a boxing ring. Still my punching is better then many MMA fighters with their wild off balance swings.
who are u to judge? can u do any better?
I tought we compared MMA to boxing in this thread so that makes it necessary to compare MMA strikes to boxing. In the comparsion MMA striking is awful.
And yeah believe it or not i can punch and put together combinations with proper technique. Not that it matters to the argument.
its combat sports. same purpose just different rules. what do u think it is then? lmao!!!

Dana White talks about this a lot and said the Manny Mayweather situation would never happen in the UFC and he is right.
Dana talks a ton of sh1t. He controls 90% of the sport yet ZUFFA managed to not do the MMA equivalent of their biggest superfights.
This thread is straight out of 2007.
