How is it Cotto/Floyd/Hatton/Tszyu were all at 140 at same time period and the only 2 that fought during that time was Hatton/Tszyu . Im not saying this to hate on any of them but I am just curious as to how 4 great fighters like that were all in one division and never fought eachother till years later when Mayweather fought Miguel when Cotto was damaged goods at 154 and Floyd fought Hatton at 147 when Hatton should've stayed at 140.
tszyu was trying to get the mayweather fight but he gave up after he realized it wasn't happening so he fought the next biggest guy in hatton. or in mayweather terms...fight didn't happen therefore it couldn't happen. confirmation bias a tad? start with your conclusion and then just keep adding pieces until you reach the conclusion you want. works like a charm. 100 percent success rate!
When Mayweather called out Cotto, Cotto was 14-0. It was after Mayweather's lightweight defense against Sosa. Cotto fought Joel Perez on the undercard and they got into an argument at the post fight conference. Mayweather called out Cotto and Cotto's people declined stating that after he get's a bit more experience they would be ready. It was in ring magazine and a few fights later Cotto called out Mayweather and Mayweather declined publicly on HBO claiming Cotto was not a big enough star.
Floyd wasn't only calling out Cotto in 2003-2004, he was calling out everyone out at the time. Mosley, De La Hoya, Tszyu, Gatti, and Cotto. Floyd was willing to go to 147 for SSM and DLH, DLH declined the fight, he did not want to deal with Arum. Mosley declined several fights with Floyd for various reasons; vacation, toothache, not a big enough star. Tszyu got retired by Hatton. And only the Gatti fight materialized.
its a shame really, would have had some great fights there had they all fought each other. it was the same at 147, lots of great fights could have been made between williams, margarito, mosley, floyd, cotto etc but it seems to have become the norm for boxing these days. the best very rarely fight the best anymore. instead we get glorified sparring sessions like floyd vs chino, and boring rematches like pac vs bradley.
Kostya got beat by Hatton and quit
Cotto and Hatton both punked outta fighting Floyd at the time
surprised that Cotto and Hatton never fought each other though
Cotto was looking at a fight with Gatti at some point
Gatti blew that when he lost to Floyd, and then to Baldomir
hatton wasn't feeling WW after the Collazo fight
he dropped his belt and Cotto went up and got it vs Quintana
just weird circumstances halted these fights
weird circumstances never come up when the baldomir's of the world are around

Floyd and Tszyu were popular in those times. Floyd had called him out but Tszyu literally lost and retired in the same month Floyd beat Gatti in 2005.
Hatton's team was not willing to fight Floyd yet and they were not ready to come to the U.S.
Cotto was getting built up by Arum at the time, no way Arum would have put him in with Hatton or Floyd. Arum had Floyd and Cotto together until 2006 after Judah, yet he decided he wanted to make the fight after Floyd left TR.
he offered floyd a career high payday but i guess that means arum didn't want to make the fight. welcome to illogical world.
He's not far off from the truth. That fight abd the Bruseles fight kept both away from Floyd.
I guess. For Cotto's sake, i'm glad it didn't happen when it was first mentioned. I think Floyd would have destroyed Cotto at 140 before he fully reached his potential. Arum was right in not making the fight then from a business perspective.
Cotto didn't want it

And we all know that didn't happen until Cotto left TR.
After floyd whooped gatti. Cotto sat in the crowd shook as hell. And hatton was sat at the commentating table looking mind****ed as to what he was watching. Floyd had to put the whooping on gatti so he could duck them guys for a while as he was unsure about their abilities. Once he seen their flaws he pounced on them.
What? :lol1:
Also this talk of everyone being shook at the Gatti performance is overblown. They all wanted to fight Gatti at the time knowing it was an easy title win.
Arum wasn't going to make Cotto/Mayweather at that time. Cotto was coming off the Corley fight, still pretty early in his career. If Floyd did want the fight its funny how his mind changed so fast.
Tszyu was done for years and Hatton's team was waiting for that fight. Then they wanted to build his name before the May fight. Really that fight ended up happening at a perfect time anyway.

Kosta had been stripped of all but 1 belt and he had to fight Sharmbra Mitchell again to keep it. Floyd offered Hatton and Cotto his first fight at 140 both declined. They also delcined later at 140 when Floyd beat Cotto's stablemate Henry Brussles and Hatton sat ringside for Mayweather vs Gatti with HBO Execs for a possible November PPV date with Floyd. After watching Floyd's performance Hatton's next fight was against the upset undercard winner Carlos Maussa(sp?)
