LEONARD ELLERBE REFUTES KHAN'S CLAIM; SAYS MAYWEATHER STILL HASN'T DECIDED ON MAY 3 OPPONENT
By Ben Thompson | February 21, 2014
"When Floyd Mayweather makes up his mind on who he's fighting, which he hasn't yet, he will announce it to the world," stated Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe, who refuted a recent claim by former jr. welterweight champion Amir Khan stating that he was no longer in the running to face undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd "Money" Mayweather when he makes his highly-anticipated return to the ring on May 3. While it's unclear as to exactly what Khan has been told, according to Ellerbe, Mayweather is still mulling his choice of opponents, which was said to be between and WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana.
Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer was unavailable for comment at the time of this writing, so we're not sure if Khan was told that he would not get the fight, or if he's making an assumption based on his own frustrations. Either way, his comments on Twitter are probably not going to help his cause when it comes to Mayweather making his final decision.

Perhaps Khan has jumped the gun a little.
This misleading behaviour just comes so natural to FLoyd. Can anyone really believe anything Floyd would say, and do people really not blame Floyd for the Pac fight not happening yet?
Just look how much he messes people around, its not just Pac. Even when there is only 2 opponent choices he cant make up his mind and how long does he have to drag it out.
Its no special fight, so stop blowing your own trumpet. This is no SRL and Duran fight, so stop drawing attention to yourself Floyd, as if you are boasting how great your next opponent is! Theres nothing to boast about here...don't go standing on a podium wanting all attention on you....its no special announcement!
I can't imagine why the Maidana fight would sell more...apart from and no offense stupid latino fans, not saying all latinos are stupid, just that the fans often are (look at the Canelo BS selling over 2 mill lol)
Plus Floyd isn't all about the revenue or he would have made the Manny fight already or fought Cotto and Marg at 147 rather than Baldomir
Yeah I get what you mean I was just reffering to Floyd and his Showtime deal, the financial side of it wouldn't go down to well if he fought Khan. But, as you say, the Maidana one wouldn't sell all that much better either... I feel that maybe this is the hold up with Floyd's next fight.
Are the guy(s) he would be happy fighting at this point - clearly only Khan and Maidana - fights that not only us fans don't really want but what Showtime also don't want want either?
I am not trying to look too far into anything or mix up any hate by saying this, but does anyone think that maybe Floyd himself would actually want to fight Khan but Showtime are in his ear saying 'No way, the fight won't sell...' or whatever? Maybe he wants Khan but he is well aware/reminded by certain people that the fight would suck revenue wise (and we all know that is what Floyd is about) and he should go for someone else, and that is what the hold up is?
Like I said, not trying to hate, just thinking of a possible reason that there seems to be a big hold up. I am a fan of Floyds and will watch whoever he fights, I am just saying...

Mayweather has learned way more than he shouldve from his WWE stint.
Whats next? He distracts the ref in Khan's next fight so Elerbe can hit him from behind and Capone-E and Hi-Power Label chase TMT out of the building? Only to continue the saga at Survivor Series.
Khan should stfu already and ruin Mayweather's suspense by giving out a Porter date. Given he wins its not like Mayweather will fight Lara so Khan is quite a logical option.
Ramadan is from the beginning of July to the beginning of August. He won't fight in September.
That's what I was thinking. If he doesn't get Mayweather now, he should without question get 2 or 3 really quality opponents in the ring. The likes of Porter, Broner, Thurman, Brook etc. If he can manage to come through that, then come May '15 - he'll be a genuine contender and the fight will be a lot bigger.
what ramadan, they take september off?
Yeah the dates change but its usually toward the end of August into September so Khan can't train for a fight during that time because he is basically fasting for a month.
Its why his schedule has always been a fight between april and june and then fighting again at the end of the year so he can take that time off from training.
Khan can't fight in September due to his fasting for Ramadan. Its May or the Khan fight is on ice until next year....

LOL they want to toy with Khan some more. Keep him inactive until September.

Leonard elderbe and al Haymon are doing one helluva job.
Pretty much, you got to give to them "doe" they really know what they are doing, I think Maidana has got the fight to be honest or khan is also playing a game by going ape**** on twitter.

Nothing new on @FloydMayweather's next fight. I predict he'll announce his fight Monday, which is his 37th birthday. #boxing #TMT
I predict fat Dan will still be a fat wanker on Monday, which is FM's 37th birthday.
