In your opinion who is the better fighter?
According to Josesito Lopez -- who fought both men -- Maidana is the bigger puncher of the two.

Maidana had to do things the hard way. He had to face lions to get the opportunity he is getting now. He deserves this payday against Floyd.
i agree...maidana has a good argument for a floyd fight...showtime can even try and create drama for the fight by saying floyd wants to avenge his "little brother's" loss...
khan hasn't done **** to deserve a floyd fight....and at least we can trust maidana not to get ko'ed...

It's really not close. There is not even a reason to make a comparison.
Literally the only thing these two have in common other than being latino is that they are both boxers, and both may have faced Mayweather at the end of it all (meaning maidana)
None of that is enough to make a comparison in any conceivable way, sorry.
We're assuming he's talking about resume's now, since we can't give credit for something that's never happened. Canelo, has been hit cleanly and buzzed. He gasses out in the later rounds. Maidana is a tough SOB and is dangerous for all 12 rounds. It would be a tough fight for both.
I'm not giving Canelo credit for future accomplishments. I'm only saying that it's rather pointless to compare the resume of a 30 year old to that of
a 23 year old (unless the former got off to a late start in boxing, which is not the case here).
And Maidana is tough, but he, too, has been hurt to the head and body several times. Khan, who is hardly a murderous puncher, nearly stopped him in the 1st. Canelo has much better all around technique and very good power to boot.

Maidana gasses too, especially when he gets hit to the body. Broner had a decent spell in the middle rounds when Maidana slowed down.
Tbf to Canelo, he is only 23 and didn't have much of an amateur career. He needs time to develop his resume. A win over Angulo would be a good start.
Even if they were the same weight, Canelo would win. Maidana's style is tailor made for him.
And Maidana does have a better resume, but they are in different stages of their careers. I'm fairly sure that by the time he is 30 Canelo will have a better resume than Maidana does now. Actually at age 23, Maidana's resume was nowhere near as good as Canelo's is now.

all in all, maidana. but canelos win over trout is better than anything maidana ever done and he also dont have losses to guys like khan and kotelnik. both of whom are good fighters but not on the level of alvarez imo.
Canelo is naturally a JR Middleweight, Maidana is naturally a Welterweight.

Maidana: Broner, Ortiz, Karass, Lopez
Canelo: Trout, Vasquez, Mosley, Lopez, Cintron
Maidana hands down.
Maidana is the choice. Canelo only fought one good fighter in his prime at the proper weight. The rest either were way past their prime or Canelo was simply the much bigger man
so far maidana hands down, but canelo has the time to improve his resume if he is willing to do it
This right here.
Now how long until we see someone post Khan's resume? Over/under 5 minutes seems about right.
In my opinion Maidana is a better fighter than Alvarez.
I want to see Mayweather-Maidana. No more of this catchweight bullsh*t or fighting fake welterweights like Robert Guerrero.
