Amongst his opponents, were Azumah Nelson, Wilfredo Gomez, Barry McGuigan,Julio cesar Chavez
Salvador sanchez, Kostya Tszyu, Rocky Lockridge, Billy Costello, John John Molina, Eusebio Pedroza and many other greats. I never saw him go down ever, and some of those bouts went 15rd. Some of you will know that it is Juan Laporte that I speak of. Marvin Hagler also had a beast of a chin.
(In no particular order) Kid Gavilan, Marvin Hagler, George Chuvalo, Sugar Ray Robinson, Jake Lamotta, Oliver McCall, Gene Fullmer (the Robinson shot would have stopped literally anyone - probably the best punch of all time - and the other stoppage of his career was nothing to do with chin), Harry Greb, James Toney, Tex Cobb, Laporte (as mentioned), Tua, ODLH, McCullough, Hopkins (though it doesn't get tested much so this one is iffy), Holyfield. Hell there are countless fighters with granite in their jaw.
A lot of the old timers mentioned we don't have film evidence for though - just records. In any case, the person with the best chin of all time will be some unknown - you need more than a chin to be a well known boxer.
If I had to pick a top 3 of those I've actually seen on film I'd have to pick Toney (simply because he's basically never been in significant trouble despite fighting heavies when he's a natural mw/smw), Hagler and McCullough.
Great post. I don't know if someone with an ATG chin would remain unknown, but it's interesting to think of the possibility.

I appreciate your opinion pal. Got to say though that no one has seen any footage of Greb, any no one can really know if he took any monster shots.
Delahoya had a good chin, but not an all time best.
I am sticking with Laporte, with McCall & Chuvalo in 2nd place, based on quality of opponents. People who keep saying Ali, have to accept, he was decked properly 3 times by very small heavies, and when he got bigger and more savvy, he leaned, rolled, parried, held ect. Guys like McCall walk through punches, no one can compare movers to those types in the chin dept.
hagler got wobbled/hurt by hearns in the first round. if fight continued onward longer hearns would have stopped him anyway
This may be the worst comment of all time.

Joe Grim....#1.

Froch has an ATG chin. Whether it's number 1 , I don't know. Look at the shots he was taking in the groves fight .
No argument at all from me pal. Yes Froch has an awesome chin, the best evidence is in the Jean Pascal fight, its unreal the shots, they both take in that
Thanks but
I don't know about "ever" but Mariusz Wach has (next to Vitali) the best chin in the sport right now.
This was to determine who was the no1 of all time, but thank you for joining in.
So far Laporte, Hagler and Chuvalo are the leaders, but Haglers best opponents were all guys who had moved up weights, Hearns, Leonard, Duran, Mugabi.
Chuvalo fought big punchers Cleveland williams, Frazier, Foreman, Quarry,
but Laporte fought Nelson, McGuigan, Gomez, Tszyu, Lockridge, Chavez, Pedroza, and Sanchez-who wasnt a big puncher but could stop or drop you even in the 15th rd and obviously when you are exhausted being attacked by someone who has loads left, you are pretty awesome to withstand that!
Isn't Oliver McCall still fighting? He made a comeback right?
He made history being the only dad to beat a fighter that had beaten his son.
The opponent was Marcin Rekowski
I took the liberty to answer for you
Er, where did I say he HAS heart? I said he didn't care if he got hit, that's not heart IMO...he didn't have the desire to carry on fighting and didn't care if he got hit but his chin is clearly iron as he didn't even seem hurt.
As I didnt know if you would follow this thread pal.
You certainly know your stuff.
Exactly. On one hand your saying he has heart because he doesn't care if he gets hit but then you acknowledge he showed a tremendous lack of heart by quitting...
Which one is it????? Which one is it????
