LOOKING through boxing's middleweight greats, watching the careers of boxers like Marvin Hagler and Bernard Hopkins were great achievements for the 160lb division.
Kazakhstan's Golovkin is currently 29-0 (26KOs). Apparently, he has the highest KO ratio in the division's rich history, and some observers predict his greatness may supercede the middleweight greats of yesterday.
BUT a quick glance at Golovkin's padded resume shows a roster of sub-standard opponents. His notable victories probably come against Macklin and Ouma! And his power aside, he doesn't appear outstanding to me.
I therefore wonder how this type of brain rot spreads through the boxing community? The hype surrounding Golovkin reminds of the same bubble that was around Matthyse - and we saw what happened there.
The mildest of suggestion that Golovkin is as ring savvy or near accomplished to the division's true greats ought to be considered an indictment for fraud.
LOOOL and you are quoting these guys as worthy opponents in your argument that apparently Im wrong? Mate t really doesn't help you. Stevens is garbage, has been for years, he was something about a decade ago but hasn't done anything since. They've been trying to hype him in the US for years, any self respecting ranking system wouldn't have him anywhere near a top 10-15. Chin Checkers LOOL
And Proksa, the same guy who got beat by Hope, come on man. He is a Martinez, Euro wanabe clone.
Stevens is who Sergios people said he should fight

Bro, you asked a question, I answered it.
Proksa was #9 when he fought Golovkin, as was Stevens who remains at #9.

The Ring is BS but who were the other 2? (I counted Macklin)

Matthysse's "hype" came from destroying the IBF champ. what world champ did GGG destroy? Right.
And the Garcia fight was close enough and well worth a rematch, which surprisingly fans have not been offered.
Dont get me wrong, I like GGG, but he's running out of time to fight someone really worth a damn. End a world champ the way Matthysse did and we can start talking about a name worth remembering in the history of boxing.
Pretty much spot on. His KO ratio is so misleading too, as it has only come against one legit top 10 contender.
Having said that, I disagree with the notion that the only thing GGG has is his power. He isn't on the same level as Monzon, Robinson, Hagler, Hopkins and co. in terms of in ring savvy and skill but he cuts the ring off very well, which tells us he has good footwork. He can switch his attacks from body to head very well and he has a great right hand and left hook. His hand speed and foot speed aren't exactly elite but it's good enough for the opponents he has faced.
Three, according to Ring rankings. Macklin is more of a top 5 contender than top 10.

We don't know yet if he's on Ward's level or not. We'll find out that after the GGG vs Ward fight. Until then it is stupid to call him a bum or a legend.
I'm sure they will have to fight when the time is right. So can we stop this fangirl and no-fangirl craziness?
I wouldn't even call him a bum, just a bum destroyer at this point, which is nice he KO's them but it is time to step up instead of claiming everyone is ducking and go on to fight random unranked JMW's
lol how is that a response to the content of my post?
I forget lol I might have did it by accident
Bullsh1t. Macklin and Stevens both got 300k, like 15x fnf wages. GGG only took 400k, which is an unheard of split. Macklin passed earlier to take like 85k on a Pac undercard. Quillins opponents are happy to get 125k.How much did it take to get Adama and Ishida in there with GGG? Quillin is an undercard fighter, you can't expect his opponents to make 300-400k because no one really knows who he is.
Whatever makes you feel like GGG is somehow on Ward's level lmao

Yeah we should let all champs fight garbage competition, blame it on everyone else and look like monsters KO'ing bums left and right lol

While GGG was considered a serious threat by other Olympians since he won gold in junior and senior World Championships Ward was a "no one" since he hadn't shown anything in major amateur tournaments. Plus Ward had to move up since he was no 2 MW in the US.

I think the OP was using the term "legend" in the following capacity:
"A traditional story sometimes popularly regarded as historical but not authenticated."
Anyway, I don't think his popularity is marketing or match-making, it's the manner of victory. People love knock-outs.

Yes but unlike Golovkin he captured an Olympic gold medal. The biggest prize in amateur boxing.

Alll those guys that ducked him, were offered less money to fight for the middleweight title than they would on espn fnf's. GGG's management are protecting him. That is a shame because he could be a star.

GGG is obviously a good fighter, who really hasn't fought any legit competition yet except an undersized aged Ouma, and Macklin. Up to now GGG is more a marketing match making sensation than legend.

true
They just use the excuse that everyone at 160 is ducking him...yet in the same breath say he shouldn't move to 168 where the lineal champ wants to fight him...meaning he can just fight no names and it is a great fight

Find me one person or one quote on NSb where people claim he is better than yesterdays greats like hagler and Hopkins...
No one is saying that,, everyone just thinks he is the best mw now in the current division, not of all time
