Ok, couldn't get all I wanted in the title. Basically, is GGG worthy of all the hype he gets or does he need to step up his competition?
If you think he is worthy of hype, explain why?
I'm gonna add a poll, wana see where the NSB posters are flowing
People always forget to look at it the other way too. Barker and Murray had no problem keeping Sergio in front of them and neither are as quick, efficient or skilled with their footwork as Golovkin.
Murray fought a past it Martinez.
Barker did well for a bit but Martinez was fighting that bout in second gear, the moment he turned it on, Barker had NO CHANCE. hE WAS MADE TO LOOK LIKE A DUMMY.
We all saw what a fully motivated Martinez could do against Junior who at the time was without a odubt the second or 3rd best mw on the planet. Martinez clowned him, hurt him and schooled him for 11.5 rounds. Martinez also put a hurting on Pavlik and decimated Williams. He also has a great argument for a win in the first fight.
I know GGG beat Stevens and Rosado and it's difficult to give either guy a round, but neither of them was blasted out. Rosado was a 154 pounder who lasted and landed some good shots. Stevens stands barely at 5'8'', a full 2 inches shorter than GGG. Don't get it twisted, just cos Stevens has ofught at a higher weight doesn't make him the bigger man, watch the fight, GGG dwarfed him in all aspects of size. Yet Stevens still managed to land some good shots and get on the inside every now and then.
GGG is not unbeatable, he isn't a young Pacman or Tyson or Liston or Foreman or Frazier. BUT HE IS GOOD, JUST NOT WHAT PEOPLE EXPECT HE WILL BECOME!
He's worthy of some hype, but definitely not the amount he's getting now. I accidentally clicked yes, but my answer is a resounding no.
Exactly what I'm saying.
They lost every round and got beaten up. Golovkin is actually very good at dealing with movement, he cuts off the ring well but you are right, Martinez has a shot.
The issue I had was you bringing up 168lb fighters to say Golovkin would lose, and not just any SMWs, the two best ones who are both on the PFP list.
That's how far you had to go to say you don't think he's that good and that tells its own story.
Like I've said weebler, GGG is good, possibly very good but with everyone, many of them on this forum saying he;d beat everyone and is posisbly one of the greatest mws ever, thats just going too far. Why do I have to keep repeating this? I've out smarted you in this argument a million times already, with you naming Proksa and Stevens as top 10 mws "peeleft:
Look I wana stop now cos normally I respect your opinions but your way off on this one.
Very well balanced post. I agree, GGG gives any version of Martinez a tough fight but if Marinez can bring his A/B game, he'd beat GGG.
I think the division gets too much stick, for much of the last 5-6 years, it's been the best it has been in a long long time. Martinez beating Williams/Pavlik/Murray/Barker/Macklin/Dzinzurik/Jr is a damn good resume, he has beaten the leading man in the division, a former p4p entrant and a very good fighter in his own right and some of the best top 10 contenders in recent years.
The division has started to thin out a bit, Barker is gone, Macklin is injured but Murray/Geale/Sturm are still worthy names. I personally would rather see GGG take on those guys than go up to 168, I think he;s too small for the division.
Im sure hed love to fight those guys as well. Thats why they got multiple offers they keep passing on

I've described how Martinez beats GGG in a million different threads already. First off, I always start off by saying Martinez has to be as close to his best as possible, as close to the version that fought Williams, Pavlik and Jr. How he beats him? Movement, combinations, speed and Martinez's own power. We've seen GGG isn't always the best when dealing with movement, what little has been shown against him, heck a little guy in Stevens showed what he could do and Rosado didn't do too bad either.

I personally don't think Sturm or Geale beat him but that's all hypothetical. He has to fight those guys and like I keep repeating, if he can't get those names then surely there are better MWs for him to fight than Adama/Stevens/Rosado.
I'm not really here to prove if I'm a hater or not, I think I've always made it clear I respect most fighters except for duckers, liars, cheats and quitters. That's an exclusive club of Floyd/Ortiz/Alexander...even then I don't let that cloud my judgement on their skills. GGG isn't any where near hate status for me, I like him, he seems a good guy who fights hard but the hype of him being the best MW on the planet and one of the best ever is a bit too much. If you can't see that then oh well

Chavez jr would be an interesting fight, but Golovkin is a decent boxer, he has a good jab and more than enough power to prevent Jr to walk him down. I 'd favor Golovkin by decision.
And I agree, Martinez at his best is fast and mobile enough to take Golovkin out of his comfort zone. At the current stage of Martinez' carreer though I don't think he has enough mobility to avoid being cornered and eventually out gunned. As said, Golovkin is a decent boxer, I don't think he'd look as lost as Chavez.

golovkin would be favored against any other middleweight, and rightfully so. martinez is not getting any younger, and it's not a great division to begin with.
when you've got to demand that a guy jump to fight ward, he's not a bad fighter.

Yeah, but you don't talk about how Geale and Murray can beat him, or how can Sturm can beat him. You're not even sure Martinez beats him. Instead you move to the kingpins in a higher division, and when you do that, you're crossing the line to "hater" status (I dislike the term but it best describes your posts on him).

this young russian king will stop martinez if they ever actually fight. dibella know it. expect martinez to retire.
I think Martinez would fight him, but as you said Dibella might push for that. Golovkin very likely stops him if they fight.
He looked plain bored in his last fight. I feel he will rise to the occasion when faced with real opposition.
Looks like a rock at the moment. But a bored, unmotivated rock.
Not sure how far he can go as far as p4p. If he beats Ward, which i dont think he will. Then what?
He does need Ward tho.
Canelo a decent fighter,, maybe calling him a hype job is harsh, but when your proclaimed the next golden boy and your struggling to look dominant vs hatton Rhodes etc then yes he is overly hyped... Fernando Vargas kills those guys and ggg would destroy that caliber of fighters
Canelo is safe cuz their isn't a lot of top talent at 154, but winky Vargas Oscar mccallum Norris, even Mosley would beat the hell out of canelo
Angulo has a really good chance IMO
Look at the hype canelo has received, it is way more than ggg
How then hell did Canelo struggle to dominate Hatton and Rhodes?
He dominated both of those fightts probably didn't lose a round to either of them.
Golovkin dominates world class fighters, the hype is warranted. He's very likely the best middleweight in Boxing.

I've never once stated GGG is a bad fighter. In fact I've said I'm more impressed with his boxing than I am with his power.
What I'm saying is that his hype has reached catastrophic levels, people claiming he is on his way to being one of the greatest mws ever, people saying that he can and will beat everyone in and around his division. All of this and he has only beaten one top middleweight in his entire 30 fight career. That's what I dislike.
let's get some perspective.
golovkin would be favored against any other middleweight, and rightfully so. martinez is not getting any younger, and it's not a great division to begin with.

Yep
Yes it is frustrating, I like GGG too but all the hype he is getting is hilarious and will only hurt him, remember a certain Lucas Matthysse?
Fact is, GGG will lose if he moves up and fights Ward and if Froch can get back to his best self (looked slow and old against Groves). I think Chavez Jr at 168 would take his power and could force the action, that'd be interesting to see. And then of course there's Martinez, if he can get back to his best possible self, he'll out work and school GGG, I truly believe that.
Chavez jr would be an interesting fight, but Golovkin is a decent boxer, he has a good jab and more than enough power to prevent Jr to walk him down. I 'd favor Golovkin by decision.
