Would Lucas have won with both eyes? WTF? Since when did he lose an eye?
I can't believe people are still droning on about this. Did they not see the momentum of the fight already turning in Garcia's favor? He, not Matthysse, made the proper adjustments.
Who knows what would've happened? You can only speculate that Matthysse would've won. He could've been knocked down in round 8 and beat down from there for all we know. The fact is, from punches thrown by Garcia, Matthysse's eye swole up (clean connect or not). It happens, and it changes fights.
It's like Herol Graham saying: "I would've beaten Jackson for sure if he hadn't knocked me out"!!!!! LOL
Who cares about the woulda coulda shouldas? It was a good scrap and Garcia pulled it out, despite all the hype Matthyse had. It's one of the beautiful things about boxing.
Unfortunately when you try to have a conversation about the fight these are the types of replies you get every time.
It didn't take a genius to see the fight swing in Garcias favor after the eye swelled. After review of how it happened, and people saying it was a huge left hook turned out to be bogus. It was a fluke injury.
Garcia won the fight, and did what he had to do under the circumstances, but to say Matthysse got his ass kicked, or to say the fight would have never went differently irks me to end.
Because he was hyped, it doesn't matter that he was injured and that he had a fluky KD called on him apparently. He deserved it in their eyes.
2 eyes or one eye Matthysse would have still lost you guys need to wacth this fight from a different angle . Danny didn't get hit as clean as I thought he did. Danny was doing a lot of little things to take the steam off Matthysse punches that you cant see from the showtime feed
this a fan recording this fight
Garcia was in control the entire time. He caused the swelling. People arguing are retarded lol
yeah sure lucas should have called time out then postponed the fight for a week or two its not fair that he was punched in his eye this isn't a contact sport after all and its not his fault he has a crappy defense... that eye is the reason lucas went all out and connected his best punch

If Lucas had both eyes healthy maybe he would had won the fight, maybe. The same way that nobody could had predicted that his eye was going to swell is the same way you can't predict how the fight would had ended.
There is a video with some grazed punch the cause the eye injury. More than likely that side of Lucas face was tender already for the punches that he recieved and started to swell with the graze.
Too many what ifs when in fact Lucas lost and wasn't complaining
That would be the PPV of the year unless Floyd/Pac was made. I'd pay full price for it too.
Can you imagine if these clowns(tr&gb) were able to work together again how many huge fights we'd have? they both are killing the sport imo
but i do know that even with one closed eye, it was competivie. if he had both eyes, who knows. what i do know is that up until the 6th round when it happened, matthyse was pressuring the hell out of garcia. the kd was bs imo....id love to see a rematch!
if gbp is able to put chino/broner, garcia/matthyse and gonzo/mares on the under card of may's con fight, then i'd buy it!!!!!

He would have won if they wouldn't have counted the bull**** knockdown imagine if he had both eyes. It was a completely different fight before the eye injury to deny it is just sheer stupidity.
See this is where you lose me a bit..What was so freakish about it??It was a solid well timed shot that closed his eye..Not like Matt's tripped on his way to the corner or something..A punch closed that eye bro..
It was a grazing shot that was arguably the back of the glove. Shots like that don't normally close eyes, let alone that quickly. It was a punch, which is why there's no excuse in the injury-we aren't talking a thumb or headbutt, after all-but Garcia could land that punch 100 times and probably never close another eye in his life like he did Matthysse's.
It did change the course of the action. Lucas's best rounds were 5 and 6. His eye closes in round 7 from what was absolutely a freak circumstance, just look at the video, and the fight changed. By the time Lucas got back in it and his corner managed to open his eye a little, Danny had won 3 rounds. Then Lucas had a better 10th, 11th, and 12th. The fight was decided int he 7th, 8th, and 9th, when Lucas couldn't see at all out of his eye. We're talking an 8-4, 7-5 fight. 3 rounds makes all the difference.
It's a fight, it happens, and it is not an excuse. It is no reason to take any credit from Garcia, I do not and have never done so. But I hate that people pretend otherwise.

I'm not even going to say Garcia wouldn't have won if not for the eye. Perhaps he would have. But he didn't, and the effect on Lucas when his eye closed is obvious and should be undeniable. It bothers me that people deny it anyway.
Bo your being a bit unfair here bro..Garcia made adjustments on spacing, was very physical with Matt's as well..I don't agree that Matt's was winning either(before the eye closed),I had an even fight when the eye swelled up..There is nothing to suggest to me that if Matt's eye did not shut he would have beat Garcia..Garcia was taking his fire power, punishing Matt's body, and banging him around physically..Garcia had a great game plan bro, your trying to make it sound as if some lucky shot change the course of the action..Which is simply not true..
