It seems that lately one of the popular topics of discussion is Amir Khan's chin and it seems to be one where virtually everyone has come to agreement that it is really bad.
I've been giving this some thought and even went back to watch some of Amir's fights and after refreshing my memory, my opinion is that Amir's chin is actually not that bad at all. I'm also not saying that he has a chin made out of granite but he certainly does not have a glass jaw the way people have lately been making it seem.
I reviewed the Danny Garcia fight and noticed that prior to taking the shot that knocked him down he had already taken a few other shots really well. When he did get dropped in round 3 he took a shot that landed cleanly at full force without being blocked the least bit which would have probably dropped a lot of fighters who don't have questionable chins. After he got up there were still a few seconds left in the round where he did take a few more shots but looked no worse then anyone who's got up from that type of a knock down. When round 4 started, Danny Garcia swarmed him but Amir didn't clinch or tie his opponents’ hands on his way to survival, he actually tried to exchange with him so he got caught a few more times and it looks like his feet got tangled when he got caught by the ropes and received another 8 count. After the action resumed, he once again proceeded to exchange blows with Garcia with virtually no clinching and ended up getting caught and falling to the floor once again with about 46 seconds left in the round and the fight was stopped by the ref.
Regarding the Breidis Prescott knockout loss, it's clear that he was very cold being that it was the first round and the first few seconds for that matter and that type of knockout can happen to anyone. It certainly happened to another fighter named James Kirkland except his knockout loss was to a fighter who is considered light handed, yet virtually nobody questions Kirkland's chin.
Now looking back at Amir's other fights, the man has been in there with all comers and was able to stand up to Marcos Maidana's shots as well as Lamont Peterson's rough tactics. So in my opinion, Amir definitely deserves more credit than what he's been given lately because he's only been knocked out twice with blows that would have knocked out or badly hurt almost anyone unless the fighter clinched and tied his opponents arms which Amir chose not to do.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but a lot of times it's much easier to criticize someone than to acknowledge their efforts. I've come to acknowledge those efforts by Amir and at a time when everything was going according to plan for him his mentality was the same in the sense that he always wanted to take on the best and never ducked anyone.
Will this question ever stopped getting asked? Oh he went 12 with Maidana and Enzo Maccarinelli went 12 with Braithwate, so what?
Another ref and he most likely would of been stopped against an extremely limited Maidana who was exhausted.
Drizdane dropped him (A guy with something like a 3% KO ratio)
Willie Limmond dropped him and was robbed of a stoppage win.
Career super featherweight Michael Gomez decked him.
Prescott buckled him with a jab & folded him inside 30 seconds.
Garcia had him on the deck multiple times and stopped him in 4.
Feather fisted Peterson hurt him several times and had him running for Dear life.
Maidana nearly killed him with the first shot he landed.
Julio Diaz dropped him hard & rocked him to his boots everytime he landed a shot.
Does a guy who hits the deck or does a funny dance every single time he takes a shot have a bad chin? Yes, yes he does.
I believe the guy you are looking for is Drilzane, he had a 0% KO ratio, and no he didn't drop Khan. It should have been ruled a slip as no punch was landed and Khan was trying to move away from the ropes.
I don't remember Khan running for his life vs Peterson, but I guess exaggeration enhances the effect.
In which of these fights has Khan ever looked spectacular? He's been dropped numerous times and stopped twice, is that supposed to inspire me he has some sort of legitimate shot at beating Floyd? He's lost 2 of his last 4 fights, and all he's doing is talking sh1t from the sidelines in the hopes Mayweather will notice him flapping his gums. If he wants to impress fans maybe he should take on Alexander, or is it that Khan knows his chin is liable to give way to anyone if they touch him right?
My bad dude, I didn't realize that the title of the thread was "Is a fight between Amir and Floyd justified" or "Does Amir Khan inspire Slip Stream". Lol your reading comprehension is far too low to be able to stay on topic or to understand what you read if you even read it dude. :)
I've noticed that a lot of people refuse to acknowledge even his heart, but you're right you can't take that away from him, the man has plenty of it. :)
Oh yeah, if I had to choose I'd rather lose my chin than my heart. That my opinion though.
Early in his career, his chin wasnt bad, it was his technique and his habit of lunging in with his chin up in the air that got him in trouble,, If he kept his chin tucked like he did in the maidana and peterson fights he does ok....
But since the garcia beatdown, i feel khan is a shot fighter, much like vargas after tito, berto after ortiz, dawson after ward.. Khan wont beat anyone with a solid punch on the world title level,,,
Exciting fighter but his chin is damaged goods, and he is a shot fighter since the garcia fight IMO

Interesting...I wonder how he was able to win 28 fights including against Marcos Maidana if all it takes are innocent gazes for him to be knocked out. Hmm and I wonder how he was able to go on for so long without ducking anyone and taking dangerous fights he didn't need to take with an imaginary heart.

His weak ass chin cancels out any intangibles you would ordinarily applaud other fighters for when they're in a pinch. Khan looks like he's going to collapse simply from innocent gazes at times. I could care a less about his imaginary "heart" when its his head I'm concerned with, more specifically his glass jaw.

His chin isn't that bad. It's below average at world level but that's it.
If it was as bad as people made it out to be Maidana would have knocked him out. plain and simple.
His problems comes with bad defence, bad mentality, lack of ring generalship, bad inside game and bad recovery power.
Let's be honest, with his defense nobody ever would have heard of him outside of Britain if his chin was so terrible. He doesn't go the distance with Maidana if it's so terrible. His powers of recuperation aren't very good and his defense is sometimes not even there. His chin isn't good by the standard of most stars but it's not bad for your average fighter. It couldn't be, all things considered.
I think he does have a weak chin You can make excuses for his KO losses and the many times he has been hurt with head punches. I think Prescott would have KOed Khan if he hit him with same punches no matter which round of the it happened to be. I think Maidana would have KOed him if not for the ref to stop the action so often to break the fighters when they weren't tied up. Once he is hurt Khan is very slow to recover. I think Mayweather will again prove that Khan has a weak chin by KOing him in 6 rounds or less.
yes. khan's in shape and tough, but big punches almost always shake him up. they've been shaking him since the amateurs.
You're right big punches do shake him up when he gets caught clean but I think it's pretty reasonable in my opinion because his big heart seems to always carry him through and anyone can get hurt when they get caught clean but not everyone has the kind of heart that Amir has. Laced Up made a valid point earlier though, that judging from his most recent fight his chin might have deteriorated to an even more susceptible level.
lol yeah ur right but still u know what i meant. this kind of fight doesnt give u thr right to fight the P4P champ, right?
Nobody mentioned anything about a fight with Floyd.
I think he takes a helluva punch kahns a fighter at heart hes explosive with his speed i never seen him technicly pick someone apart he gets in position and explodes with speedy straight shots,he should never have been matched against prescott his style was all wrong for kahn at that time, prescott maidana and garcia hurt everybody they get in with dannys punch was clever kahn jumped in with his head up more than once and garcia knew he would catch him big! that was a calculated bomb that kahns blind fury did not see,he beat maidana he beat peterson i think personally, those shots peterson was getting in behind kahns guard were heavy his legs did not wobble at all 12 rounds of heavy shots he stood up,i think most of the kahn hate is because you either like him or you dont he has said some crazy stuff but the dude will fight anyone. He hasnt looked good in his last 2 fights thats threw maybe the cautious approach wont suit him or maybe something that was there is no longer.
Good post with valid points =]
